Céline's Blues Posted April 16, 2007 at 04:37 PM Posted April 16, 2007 at 04:37 PM I was wondering - this is the question for all the vocally skilled among us here - whether Céline tends now to sing with her throat or with her diaphragm? In my subjective impression it seems that she has used the throat heavily throughout the 90's and now as well. Also does she use her diaphragm at all? Quote http://i.imgur.com/dmreJ.jpg
celinelover50 Posted April 16, 2007 at 04:58 PM Posted April 16, 2007 at 04:58 PM well i think Celine started use her diaphragm during TCOMY and then perfected the technique during FIY. but baecause of her time off etc i think she lost her technique and has reverted back to a simple singers technique. she has lost the qualitiy and power of her voice ...which is why i am saying this.....BUT i still love her! Céline's Blues Posted April 16, 2007 at 05:03 PM Author Posted April 16, 2007 at 05:03 PM I think all the "power she has lost" can be trained back in by a good vocal coach, can't it? Either Céline is happy with what she has now or she doesn't know shhh about vocals but the first option is more likely of course. haha Anyhow I hope we can get some opinions about Céline's use of diaphragm from ppl from here. Tal Posted April 16, 2007 at 05:23 PM Posted April 16, 2007 at 05:23 PM There are actually these great vids on Youtube from a vocal coach that shows the proper way to sing and warm up. She has to sing from her diaphragm because that is what gives you the power and control. For example, that looooong note in IKILY could not be sustained that long if she didn't know how to control her diaphragm, therefore controlling how quickly or slowly the air is released. But I think what you are saying is two different things. You dont sing from you diaphragm...you sing with it. Whereas your throat is one of the places your voice resonates, making it a place you can sing from. maykonprincess Posted April 16, 2007 at 06:16 PM Posted April 16, 2007 at 06:16 PM technically speaking, in order to sing you need to use your diaphragm no matter what. It's a respiratory muscle. Using "throat" does not really exist. unless you are terming it throat, when you mean nasal? You vocal folds are found in your larnynx, they rub together with air pressure to make sound. The diaphragm is needed for respiratory function. Quote

I guess that could be confusing! We have other letters that are silent in some words too. ajguerras Posted April 16, 2007 at 07:05 PM Posted April 16, 2007 at 07:05 PM (edited) Well definetly, she is not singing the same way that in 90´s , obviously her voice is not being trained as it used to.... and in the other hand human voice gets damaged as much as we abuse of it (200 shows per year would???)... So I don´t think she would work to get her voice completly back, now she is enjoying her life, her son, family and fame... and I agree with her... she has nothing to proof... She already showed she really sings---So let´s move on to a new stage... Edited April 16, 2007 at 07:11 PM by ajguerras Quote I need someone to loves m like Celine loved René... smw Posted April 16, 2007 at 07:11 PM Posted April 16, 2007 at 07:11 PM she has lost the qualitiy and power of her voice ... I hardly agree with you. The power remains--but it's not as "trained", because she actually has a life now. As far as quality, she still has enormous quality in her vocals. In Las Vegas, Celine peforms so often that she has had to find a way to not strain her voice---making her sound "not so perfect". And we are used to her sounding perfect. So through the years of this non-straining singing, she has lost some of her technique, but she still has quality AND power. Quote
celine5-5 Posted April 16, 2007 at 07:52 PM Posted April 16, 2007 at 07:52 PM i don't really think she lost really anything, i think she just performs A LOT now and has come up with a technique that is "good enough" but not to the quality it was when she was younger. i think that after vegas and some rest, i think her live singing will return to what it once was and it won't be so nasally. celine5-5 Posted April 16, 2007 at 08:00 PM Posted April 16, 2007 at 08:00 PM then again, think of how many people she's better than. she can outsing almost anyone even half her age, so why is everyone worried? Quote

Shaun Posted April 16, 2007 at 09:48 PM Posted April 16, 2007 at 09:48 PM Celine has been to the "school of life" since Rene Charles was born and no longer is as disciplined as she used to be. That has absolutely had a telling effect on her voice however it is clear that she can still do it when she wants to, just look at the performance of "Summertime" not too long ago. When I first read the title of this topic I thought you meant diaphragm as in the sex contraceptive device. Anyway. I do believe Celine can sing beatifully if she wanted to, it's true that she's sounding like her TCOML era again a little bit, but that's not a big deal. I still think she sounds AMAZING, and her voice is so much more stronger and more powerful. At least I think so. She's just putting family first, as always. celine5-5 Posted April 16, 2007 at 11:05 PM Posted April 16, 2007 at 11:05 PM Who are we kidding, celine always sings beautifully. It's just sometimes she's like "Hmm, find the most nasally sound possible and use it for my singing voice? O.K." But really, I think she's just trying not to strain her voice too much. Quote
firebird Posted April 16, 2007 at 11:29 PM Posted April 16, 2007 at 11:29 PM It's kind of hard to learn how to breathe with the diaphragm, because most people tend to breathe with their lungs. I think singers use it because they can create a better volume in their voice with it. Quote

I mean truly there's absolutely No difference between a fine vocal shape Céline is in now and losing her voice! Her voice was in continous deterioration ever she has started to sing and there's not much you can do it. It's a natural demise. But seemingly she refuses to ba a damn SALVE to her voice like she was in the 90's and it's INHUMAN of some fans here to demand she should take greater care of her voice. I think what she does now is the best of the two worlds. She's sounding just fine and you NEVER should stop in time and pretend that Céline ALWAYS sounded like she did in 1996. Back then she was getting sick all the time, her organism was heavily strained due to touring and rigorous vocal discipline, she wasn't herself. And there's no denying that she chose to live wit her voice instead of for her voice. I wanted to have some info on Céline's current vocal technique, not about the natural deterioration of her voice which is inevitable and especially hurtful for those still living in 1996. Dreamer Posted April 17, 2007 at 01:33 PM Posted April 17, 2007 at 01:33 PM Hey guys you don't sing with the diaphragm or throat. When she sings with the throat she is using her diaphragm. The diference is using the chest voice or the head voice.the head voice is used for long notes and hight notes. It's the voice that opera singers use.chest voice for the medium notes. It's the voice that popular singers use. In 93 Celine started using a lot the head voice, nowadays she uses mostly the chest voice, which uses the diaphragm but do not need as much space as using the head voice. Let's just give and example, when she sang I surrender live she is clearly using her diaphragm, if not she won't be able to hold that looooong note. You see?
