Céline and the U.S.

Are Celine's kids really American though? I know they were all born in Florida, but someone in this topic mentioned something about the parents being able to choose the citizenship of there child, even if they are technically born in the US?

 

I have often wondered if RC, Nelson and Eddy are Canadian, because RC seems to have very strong pride for his French Canadian roots. His friend's even seem to treat him like he's Canadian. The way RC and John converse back and forth with each other. When RC gave John the Montreal Canadians hat last summer, I think John even referred to RC as Canadian in one of there Live video chats? It comes across as though he's Canadian in my eyes anyways.

 

I know that RC would obviously have a connection to Canada, because of both his parents being from Canada, but I think it goes deeper then that. I just get this feeling from him, that he strongly considers himself to be Canadian as well. It would be a very interesting question for her to be asked in an interview someday. Not that it really matter of course, but it would be interesting to know.

 

They're US citizens by virtue of being born in the US.

They're Canadian citizens by virtue of having Canadian parents.

Simple.

As far as I know the children have both citizens

Oh yeah, they are Canadians because Céline and René were but get to have dual citizenship because they are born in America.

I would think Céline and René would have chosen a dual citizenship because it makes stuff easier for their kids in the future, if they want to continue to live in America.
