TRUCKING tycoon Lindsay Fox is throwing himself Australia's biggest birthday bash. The entrepreneur will celebrate his 70th birthday in style, with 320 of his closest friends.

 

The three-day Sydney soiree is believed to be costing $8 million and could feature Canadian diva Celine Dion as the focus of a lavish entertainment program.

 

Eighty couples from Australia and another 80 from overseas are on the guest list. The list includes Dick Pratt and his wife Jeanne, Solomon and Rosie Lew as well as Bruno Grollo, Lloyd Williams and James Packer.

 

Triple Brownlow medallist Bob Skilton and his wife Marion, as well as many of St Kilda's 1959 and 1966 football teams, are also understood to be on the list for the mid-March celebration.

 

Dion is rumoured to have been offered $1 million plus expenses to sing for Fox at the party.

 

The top-secret bash will be held at a variety of glamour venues, including the Opera House and Fox's $20 million waterfront mansion "Boomerang" at Elizabeth Bay.

 

Fox will have business jets stationed at Essendon Airport to whisk guests to Sydney.

 

The invitation to the event was a shoe-box sized red and yellow Linfox replica toy truck with a photo of the entrepreneur on the door.

 

One invitee said Mr Fox's friends were excited by the prospect of the mega-bash.

 

"We've been sworn to secrecy, so I can't say much, but it sounds like it's going to be a great party," the football identity said.

 

"And it will be nice to share the occasion with such a great bloke."

 

Self-made billionaire Mr Fox bought his first truck when he was 16.

 

Despite running one of Australia's biggest companies, he describes himself as a truckie and is reported to have ever read only one book, John O'Grady's They're a Weird Mob.

 

Raised in Prahran, he is said to have left school at 13.

 

He was last year ranked at No. 20 on the BRW Rich List with an estimated wealth of $1.07 billion.

Yeah, if this thing is in March I would think it would be pretty difficult for Celine to go, unless she goes on one of her days off but Australia's a long plane ride from LV.

that's not the point . it's a matter of reputation and respect . i can not respect singers that just fly across the world to sing for money and only money .

there is no fun here or a career move , the only reason for doing something like this is the money .

i can understand young artists and people who dont have alot of money who would do something like this , but first class artists? i know that many icons r doing it but i just think that there is no diffrence between this and prostitution .

i cant blame men/women who sell their body cause they need the money for food but when u have all the money in the world , why the hell do u need it? it's just being greedy and i hope celine will never do something like this

What's the big deal! I would do it if I was her. First, it would be fun for her to fly to Australia for a mini vacation and then she could perform for a fan who wants her to help celebrate his birthday. That would be awesome. If I had a million dollars, I would offer her $1M to perform for my birthday party and I hope that she would except! Come on people, you all would do the same if you had the money too! I say do it!

HOLD IT, MISTER SISTER!!! I think you went a little too far right there.

You're comparing the livelihood of the successful people of our world to a sleezy act for end's meets? She can do WHATEVER SHE WANTS with her time. Because of her reputation and her respect, she is able to be demand so much for her presence and her voice.

 

I think if you were this tycoon and being as devoted as you are, you would do the same thing!

 

Based on what I read recently, a private show with Celine will cost $6.43 million.

I think she had done a private show to the king of Brunei for $1million at the 90's. And there're many other legends doing private shows for millionair. I can't see any problem.

seb we all knew that...but celine of 1996 is not the celine of 2007...today she is an icon , since then she sold more than 100 million records and made much more money so the situation is diffrent now .

 

and u can be cynical as long as u want but u also know very well that her voice back then was much more powerful and accurate - that's the fact and it has nothing to do with lip synching .
