Yeah, as for Céline, I'm almost sure she was there with René but I agree, it's really hard to thing to go through such a sad, amotional event and deal with all the paparazzis or even some other people who may see her there and may act as rude to ask her for a photo or autograph in such a very moment...

I'm sure I would hate being a celebrity in such occastions, if I were one!...

Celine may be in Montreal with Rene. One thing that's difficult when you are a celebrity is that it's difficult to go to events like funerals because then you have to deal with all the paparazzi and people wanting an interview, etc. I could be wrong but that may be why you don't see her there.

maybe she just stayed with RC cause it was too emotional for her and she didnt want to leave RC.

I am so sorry to hear about this! Cancer is a terrible disease... he was only 68! This makes you realize again how short life can be.. and that we have to follow our dreams, don't wait for tomorrow, start today!

Coming out of my forum vacation just to say my heart goes to his family and to Celine and René. I can't imagine how it feels to lose a friend of 45 years and we all know how much René is close to his friends. IIRC he was René's best man when he married Celine. And he has been a very important person for Celine's carreer. I hope he rests in peace. And I hope René and Celine are alright, losing a friend must be devastating.

Ben Kaye tribute, 1938-2007

As Céline Dion's manager/husband René Angélil noted at the Feb. 10 funeral of legendary Montreal manager and agent Ben Kaye - a funeral packed with a who's who of Montreal's old-school entertainment establishment - few did more to build Quebec's pop scene than Ben Kaye.

"Everything I am today, I owe to Ben Kaye," Angélil told the gathered mourners. "I loved that man more than anything." Kaye, 68, died of cancer on Feb. 3.

 

Angélil first tasted success because of Kaye, who in 1961 signed and managed Angélil's band Les Baronets, a quartet that covered Beatles songs in French. Then Kaye successfully promoted another Quebec group, Les Classels, in the U.S. where he penned two of their hit songs. Kaye was also key in the careers of Ginette Reno, Patsy Gallant, Michel Pagliaro, Aldo Nova and Roger Doucet (who sang the Canadian national anthem at all Habs games). Kaye then became a senior consultant in Céline Dion's production company Les Productions Feeling, negotiating all of Dion's contracts.
