Kyle_Jared Posted January 24, 2007 at 01:18 PM Posted January 24, 2007 at 01:18 PM Look what Katherine McPhee (American Idol runner up) says in a recent interview. she only WISHES she could be HALF as successful as Celine always will be: Was it a challenge for you -- as somebody whose background is not really in pop singing -- to come in and make this kind of record? Well, I don't think that's necessarily all true. I think some of it is true -- I have a lot of background in theater and a lot of background in standards and stuff like that because that's what I grew up listening to as well. But I do have a lot of pop influences; that's what I grew up listening to. I didn't listen to standards; my CD collection wasn't Frank Sinatra singing the American songbook. It was 102.7 Kiss FM with Rick Dees in the morning listening to all the cool Top 40 songs. That's what I grew up listening to. Yeah, I did like Celine Dion, but Celine Dion is not in anymore. There used to be a time when Celine Dion played on 102.7, but the music has changed. Pop music has changed Quote

Say What? Posted January 24, 2007 at 02:23 PM Posted January 24, 2007 at 02:23 PM You guys are misinterpreting what she's saying. Wen she said "Celine Dion is not in anymore" she meant the music she recorded when she was played on top 40 radio stations in not played anymore. That's what she meant. When I read her staement, I feel no attack towards Celine at all. It's more of a statement toward the genre of music she recorded. That's why she's talking about standards and pop music. Quote
angel_christ Posted January 24, 2007 at 03:02 PM Posted January 24, 2007 at 03:02 PM Why did she mention Celine, then? Why not other singer who never achieve greatness like Celine? Say What? Posted January 24, 2007 at 03:19 PM Posted January 24, 2007 at 03:19 PM I just found where this interview came from and you can listen to it as there's a MP3 available on the website. Basically, they didn't transcribe the interview correctly. She did NOT say "Celine Dion is not in anymore", she said "Celine Dion's sound is not in anymore". We have the proof that they did NOT do a good transcript job of this interview. Anyways, listen to it and you'll see: http://www.salon.com/ent/feature/2007/01/2...ource=whitelist Amazing at how people will jump at any simplelittle negaive comments regarding Celine. I HATE SCFs. So unhealthy. Quote
amelie Posted January 24, 2007 at 05:04 PM Posted January 24, 2007 at 05:04 PM (edited) erm her show is not successful because she's "in" the show is successfull because she has MANY MANY loyal fans who don't go only once and because its the best show in Vegas after all.ANyway i don't think its a sign of her being "in" at all... BUT if the way for her to become "in" is to sing rnb i'd rather see her out!! Edited January 24, 2007 at 05:05 PM by amelie Quote
Alex_Incognito Posted January 24, 2007 at 07:13 PM Posted January 24, 2007 at 07:13 PM How funny. Celine is one of the richest women in the world, and she's not 'in' anymore? HA! Celine can laugh her rich butt all the way to the bank, but she won't. That's why I love Celine, she doesn't say a negative word about anybody. She's truly a good person. "Not in"! That's funny! I gave a link where you can listen to that interview and Katharine did NOT say that Celine wasn't in anymore. She said Celine's sound was notin. That's 2 COMPLETELY different things. Get over it guys. She was notattacking Celine one bit. Quote
Un Rêve Posted January 24, 2007 at 09:36 PM Posted January 24, 2007 at 09:36 PM And even if she did say that Céline wasn't in anymore, she still had a point. Yes, loads of people came to see her show, yes she still sells I don't know how many albums, but you won't see her on the popular tv shows a lot like MTV or something. What's in right now is the gangsta rap and what not. It wouldn't be saying Céline doesn't sound well or anything, just that Céline isn't really part of the "popular" sound nowadays. Not like the rappers etc. Quote
Un Rêve Posted January 24, 2007 at 09:37 PM Posted January 24, 2007 at 09:37 PM Oh and just to add to my comment, I'm glad she's not part of that scene. At least our idol still has class and dignity . Quote
Shaun Posted January 24, 2007 at 10:02 PM Posted January 24, 2007 at 10:02 PM Surely what's poplualr is what sells, and Celine does. Lots of albums and lots of tickets for A New Day... What's regarded as "in" are whatever stations like MTV or Top 40 radio decide to play. That doesn't, in my opinion, make them popular or ever guarantee them sales. celinedionfan Posted January 24, 2007 at 10:17 PM Posted January 24, 2007 at 10:17 PM (edited) Celine Dion remains an opportune singer! This week her Las Vegas Show charts on the 2nd and 3rd position of Billboard boxscore, her latest compilation album has re-entered the 'Formats Longs' french charts and her christmas album is still listed on the Billboard Top Holiday Albums.....and all this happens now that there's nothing new from her!!!! Imagine what is going to happen when her new works come up!! I don't think she has to change anything because this is not a solution!! I don't want my favourite idol to change her kind of music and do rnb so she can be commercial and No1 again as many many other artists do like Mariah Carey! I didn't love Celine for her number 1s neither for her high-watched appearances on TV! I loved her for the character and woman she is and her very special and unique talent!! I will appreciate anything Celine does but i want it to be expressed by her heart and soul...and let me be the only one to buy it!! I don't care if Celine Dion is not "in" for those who judge artists for their non-commercial songs and they follow like sheep the music that is served to them without having their own opinion and sense of music! I know that Celine expresses my own sense of music and art and that's why i adore her... ***and i just noticed that the Billboard boxscore charts are updated and Celine's show is No1 this week !!!!! Of course NOT. Her show is one of the main attractions for public during these four years in LV, so many people probably goes there to see the spectacle and had a nice time, but probably only a 5-10% of people are really fans each night and listen to Céline's music habitually Edited January 24, 2007 at 11:35 PM by Gonzalillo Quote "Hush, now... celinealltheway Posted January 25, 2007 at 03:44 AM Posted January 25, 2007 at 03:44 AM I'm just assuming that she's talking about Celine doesn't fit into the younger generations music selection. The younger crowd is more into the rock, rap, and hip-hop...like Jay Z, Beyonce, Akon, those kinds of people and even the bigger bands like All-American Rejects. The younger population is the biggest in the US and it's definitely changing the music (selection) that's played on the air waves. I'm a Celine fan but I don't listen to her music as much anymore because my taste has changed. I will ALWAYS have respect for her music and the positive influence she's had on her fans. She's been a clean singer (no drugs, alcohol abuse, etc). She's got a heart of gold and she's very down to earth. People like her deserve to be respect, regardless of the music she sings. And her fans are more older and not 16-21 like they used to be. YES there are many out there, BUT Celine's audience consists of the older adults, I'm guessing 30 years and older. In my opinion, the love for Celine will never disappear but I don't see Celine having a chart-topping, high success album like she did in 1996 and 1997. A lot of us don't want to admit that because we love her and I understand. I don't want to say it but you have to look at music today. But who knows? I can't read the future. I would love to see Celine with chart-topping hits BUT her song selection will have to change I'm afraid, and again...maybe not. Who knows! I support her all the way no matter what! Black Kitten Posted March 26, 2008 at 07:28 AM Posted March 26, 2008 at 07:28 AM i agree celine was never, and will never become 'in'. she's out of this world. but the mystery is, how can she sold truckloads of cds all over the world even if she's not 'in'? that's her magic as an artist that no one will ever discover where on earth she got her public to buy her music. i have nothing against Katharine. she's beautiful, she's so talented, she's been called 'in' for a while, but where is she now?
