Memoir of a Trip: 01/20-22/2007

I know many of us will have our reviews of the trip; and will have such fond memories from the wonderful moments that we all spent together. I want to share with you some of my thoughts and a collection of our photographs from the trip. Of course, I have to thank many of the people that were so lovely , so loving, and so committed; and who made this trip one that was relaxing yet exciting. All of you have made this trip so awesome. First, I just want to thank EVERYBODY! There were many of you that I became more acquainted with, became closer with, became friends with; and had a blast with: Jose, Alanna, Lisa and Kevin, Jane and her hubby, The Dutchies, Salla, Anu, Marisa, Paula, Brenda, Diana, Jillian and more! And to witness CELINE's untoppable performances - A W E S O M E!

I hope that you will be entertained by my journal entries, in remembrance of this trip.

January 20, 2007
PART I

The alarm clock rang at 5:00AM. I jumped out of my bed; more energized at that time of the morning than I've ever been before. I had stayed up until almost midnight, packing and stuffing my check-in luggage; making sure I did not overload nor underload. A little after six, the wheels on our car rolled swiftly to Sacramento International Airport. To my right, I could see that the sun is coming up, and a white egret is majestically gliding through the crisp morning wind. A new day has come. I was pretty excited. In my work and in my experience, I meet countless people from so many backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs. Today, I was going to be meeting a group of people that I became acquainted with, because of one amazing lady; one amazing word: Celine. While waiting to board the plane, I made a quick call to Alanna, a San Bernadinan-Californian. I believe my phone woke her up. A warm, almost breathy voice poured through the microspeakers in my phone: "Hello..." And I smiled and gave a little chuckle, "Hello!" We talked for a little while. Alanna had arrived in Las Vegas ever since yesterday and she found out that almost all of the fans that had come, were scheduled to be interviewed for the show DVD and to meet Celine. Unfortunately, it was neither Alanna, nor me, nor my friend and roommate Jose, nor a few others. Regardless, I was excited. My plane arrived safely in Las Vegas in the late morning. It was so cool because after briefly waiting, Alanna called to tell me that she was on the freeway, coming to the airport to visit me. Jose would not arrive until noon. Meeting Alanna was quite funny because as she was on the phone with me, I could see her from a distance, and I was telling her to move "forward, forward, right, forward, right," until she saw me! An hour later, after Jose has landed and we rushed out of the airport, we loaded ourselves and our belongings into Alanna's car. The three of us headed for Las Vegas Boulevard. Jose was happy to hear "L'amour existe encore" playing in her car. Alanna was so kind to have come to not only visit me in the airport, have lunch with me, but to help transport Jose and me to our hotel.

We were welcomed by the world famous Strip traffic jam. We wanted to make sure that we could get to Caesar's Palace by 2:00PM for the surprise that Marisa had in store for us at 2:15PM. After checking in, freshening up and loosening up, we joyfully arrived at the entrance of Caesar's five minutes after; in time for the 2:15PM surprise. Walking towards the entry to the Colosseum; I noticed a group of happy individuals. Marisa reached out her hand first to greet me. I smiled and greeted her back! The next thing I did was turn around and asked, "Where are the Dutchies?" I noticed a quiet guy to behind the Dutchies, so I approached him with a handshake - his name was Feidhlim from Ireland, and we struck a small conversation. Soon followed more handshakes and smiles; and friendships were born. Our surprise was a Backstage Tour of The Colosseum. I was so excited! Even though I knew early on that the surprise was not going to be meeting Celine; the tour was going to be awesome as well! We gathered at the foyer and learned the secrets of budget cuts and "creative engineering." We were informed on why the foyer's columns were so fat. When the double doors of the threatre opened, we could see a few cameras and production people planning for the evening's shoot. As we made our way up to the stage, I immediately thought, "Where is Lisa?" So, I gently tapped on the shoulder of one of the women in the group; and when she turned around, I said, "Lisa?" even though I knew it wasn't her. Maybe that little question could have given me an answer. The gal smiled. In the next second when I turned my head around, I noticed a face, and a smile, and a Lisa! Lisa from England! Next came the big hug that she had promised. As the host was giving some more facts and bloopers of Colosseum construction, I rested my head on the top of the seat, pushed my neck up and noticed the glorious cathedral ceiling with the red acoustic pillows (which were in fact, donations of sympathy from the construction company). The Colosseum's projected budget was $60 million; with artists' and architects' fantasies fulfilled, it would have exceeded $120 million; however, Caesar's could only afford $90 million. Next we went up on stage. Jose pointed out the stage's rubberized surface, which created a reflex for me to do a few hops to test it out. I agreed. Then, we went back behind North America's largest LED Screen (and the only screen in the world with a door - for Celine's grand entries). The tour was wonderful; because it is part of an amazing place created especially for a legend. At the end of the tour, we all gathered on the stage for group pictures, one with the screen in the back; and another with the 4100 velvety red chairs in our background and Marisa mimicking Celine in "River Deep, Mountain High." Suddenly, one of the stage engineers switched on a set of high beam stage lights, and the mothership started sucking us in. No, actually, a few of us were ready for a number. I grabbed Lisa and said, "Let's do a duet, darling!" As we exited the foyer, we clapped for Marisa, whose collaboration with her friends at Caesar's made the tour possible; and her hard work helped make the upcoming evening's dinner possible. I could not help but rush to give her a hug.

Around 4:00PM, I changed outfits, preparing for tonight's dinner and show. I was so excited because I was going to sit in second row, seat 401: a great front, center seat. Being the shameless fashionist I am; I planned my outfits. This time I wanted to wear a brown linen / cotton suit with something silky and white; so I chose the Louis Vuitton multicolore bandeau as an ascot and a matching scarf as my pocket square. Around 5:00PM Jose and I made our way through those omnipresent slot machines to Cafe Lago; where our party was in the very back; in a cozy private room. At my table, were surrounded by some shy faces and some very amicable ones: especially Jane. Jane, Jane, Jane. Yes, we became fast friends. She claimed she is located in South Africa via England. To this moment, I still do not get where exactly she is located. Maybe she's trying to give the slot machines competition for omnipresence. Sweetheart, only God is. My first impression of Jane was how much energy she has. yes, CheerfulJane! Lisa may be known her her contagious laugh. Jane is known for her contagious energy. And of course, we had a blast talking and laughing. During dinner, I would look around at the few dozen folk who came to dinner; all of a sudden, "Celine! Celine! Celine!" Anu from Finland had a camcorder in her hand and as she was panning it in my direction. I flushed red in the face, and I smiled. Then I turned to whisper to a person next to me with a gentle laugh made a joke, "Is this a cult?" Then, more: "Celine! Celine! Celine!" There was no hiding: the dinner, this vacation, this weekend was focused on an appreciation for one woman: Celine. Midway through dinner, Marisa tapped the goblet with a spoon to get the attention of the attendees. In the next several minutes, we brainstormed on what we fans could do to evoke audience participation and to help the DVD taping look as exciting as possible! Of course, there were mentions of the "I Drove All Night" steering-wheel dance; then the "I'm Alive" cool-it-down spread-your-wing dance. Of course, we made sure to give a standing ovation at the end of each song. There was even a practice where at the moment Celine sits down to prepare to sing "If I Could," Jane would holler out "On t'aime Celine." Then Celine would say "I love you too!" Then we would shout back "We love you more!" It was funny because at the first practice, I thought Jane was saying "On time, Celine!" Later, I took time during the dinner to take photographs and have photographs taken with many of the attendees. Thanks Marisa and Darryl and everybody who came, to make dinner possible!

Part II

After 7:00PM, we made our way to the Celine Dion store. Lisa was so sweet, and she grabbed the Celine "One Heart" poster and had the idea of having us all sign it as a "thank you" to Marisa for all her hard work. I made a little joke: "You can sign it anywhere, but just no on her face." Truly, it was a wonderful idea and a touching gift. A little bit later. we entered The Colosseum individually. I turned to the left and saw Celine's wax statue. Ah! "Magnifique!" I could not help but notice how amazing the Grevin creation was; and the classy Michael Kors blue gown that she wore at the '98 Oscars; and that blue Heart of the Ocean imitation (which I know is all crystals, obviously). So I wrapped my arms around "her" for four shots. That evening, I was carrying my portfolio bag; inside were two DVDs that I had made. The content was my piano performance on DVD of "It's All Coming Back to Me Now" which I had put up on YouTube for several months now. Jane, whom I spoken with at dinner about the DVD, spotted Patrick Angelil, Celine's Son-in-Law. She said, "There's Patrick!" Immediately I asked, "Who?" I honestly forgot what Patrick looked like! I was a little bit hestitant because I was not prepared for rejection. Jane assured me that it would be okay. I, myself, saw that he was surrounded with the production crew. So Jane rushed to tap him on the arm and gently said, "Patrick." Patrick turned. I did not want to look desperate (although honestly, I was, because I seriously wanted to give those DVDs to Celine and Rene, and to "Mego" Lemay, Celine's pianist). So, I approached him firmly and confidently, and I spoke sincerely, "Patrick, I recorded a performance of 'It's All Coming back to Me Now" on the piano and put it on this DVD video package, as a gift to your father and stepmother, and to Mego. I know of the regulations right now, but would you please give this to them?" Immediately he smiled at me and said, "Of course I can; and I will hand-deliver it to them." My face got an instant glow. I shook his hand; said "Thank You," rushed to the ever-cheerful Jane to gave her a big hug. To me, being able to know that Celine may be watching me perform - is equally as exciting as meeting her in person; and maybe even more for being remembered! Soon, I entered through the double doors (once again today), and this time that digital frame projected in the LED showcased the magnificient saloon of the Colosseum's theatre. While waiting for the show to start, many of us gathered around the second and third row of section 4, and talked, and chatted, and laughed. A photographer named Frannie approached me to take a picture, and immediately, I called Jose to come join me. We haven't had our duet picture yet, and I wanted to make sure we get one together. So, we posed for four photographs. Now, something funny: The whole time, there was a friend among us; who made himself a stranger. He sat there watching each one of us be loud and happy. He even stood with us, and cheered with us for Celine. You will know about him after the review.

The glass of the magnficient mirror shattered into countless pieces, and the crowd, especially those of us fans in section four, front orchestra, created a roar of cheers. I looked around me: Scully from Britain was to my left; more fans to the left of us; the Dutchies behind me - three in row three, and a fourth in row five; Jose was in row five. Jane was in second row but all the way on the other side of section four near section five. Okay, I'm typing way too many numbers! Now, two years since the last time here, I am ready to be captivated by one of the glorious voices known to mankind.

Part III

I hope as you read my personal account of some of the songs from the show; you will be taken back to that moment when you experienced "A New Day..."

1. A NEW DAY HAS COME
A gentle yet strong soprano tone sings out gloriously like sirens of a Greek mythology - the chorus of the theme song of "A New Day..." As the CG of Celine swiftly going down the endless steps, I could hear my heart beating as my smile augments. "A New... Day... Ahhhhhh." All of a sudden, a silhouette of a familiar woman becomes revealed by the waning of the stage lights. "I was waiting for so long, for a miracle to come." At that moment, I immediately jump in a standing ovation for Celine, with a smile that nearly becomes half my face. I notice Celine is wearing a black gown, which I knew was a pull-over. Immediately, I notice sparkles coming from her eyes. As she gracefully walks up closer to the audience, I notice that her eyelids were painted with silver glitter. She looks so refreshed and energized. And she sings this song like an angel who had just delivered a miracle. I am captivated and touched, as expected. The medium-tempo version of "A New Day Has Come" that Celine performs is among of my most favorite songs ever. For a few moments during the song, I would close my eyes briefly, and as I open them up, I could not believe I am in the presence of the singer, singing her song LIVE! Amazing.

2. THE POWER OF LOVE
The light goes out. Celine get's stripped of her black pull-over, revealing this interesting white outfit, with white leather pants. "The Whispers in the morning...." The crowd cheers; and I think based on my memory, at this moment, the wild and crazy fans of section 4 are up and standing too! Then, we settle ourselves back into our seats. The visuals and seems to be enhanced since I last saw this saw in 2004. There seems to be more power.

3. IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW
As soon as the thunders begin roaring, I thought in my head about my experience earlier that evening with Patrick Angelil. The amazing sections written for piano by Jim Steinman for this song is epic. My favorite part of the song, in Celine's vocal performance and for the piano is where she shouts, "Baby! Baby! Baby!" It's demanding!

4. BECAUSE YOU LOVED ME
Of course many would regard this song as one of Celine's sappiest hits. I think its simplicity in its message of love is so genuine; so profound. I remember that hearing this song for the first time in 2004 caused my mind to drift back to the 1996 Oscars when I was not even a fan, but I watched sing this song on television. That song was and has been constantly on my mind. At that moment in 2004 when I saw the show (and Celine, in general) for the first time, it was a very emotional moment for me.

5. TO LOVE YOU MORE
The first time that I ever experienced Celine live was at this show in June of 2004. I do not have any memory from this song, actually, except for those flying doves. Next to this, this song seemed to have gone by so fast. However, this evening I decided to take my eyes off of Celine a bit and to soak in the surroundings, even though I was "up-in-the-face" of the stage. Visually, this performance is more beautiful from a distance because of the clouds in the LED and the smoke, which were to blend in as seamlessly as possible.

6. I'M ALIVE
"Shall we go for it?" "YEAH!!!!!!!" Now this was Section 4's first opportunity to inspire the 4000 other people in the audience to GO FOR IT! And as soon as the Carribbean drums started beating, we begin beating our hands together, clapping in unison. It was so funny because during dinner earlier in the evening, we were preparing for the "cool-it-down spread-your-wings " dance that Celine does at the begin of "I'm Alive" to get the dancers to freeze. When that part came, as I am doing the motion, I jerked my head quickly to the left and immediately gave out an enormous laugh because, in fact, we all did it together! When the cameraman noticed our enthusiasm, at this time, he immediately rushed up to the bottom of the stage to film us as we danced and clapped to this enthusiastic song. I noticed Diana was standing up and clapping - she sat at the last seat of Row AA in section 3. During this song, and I think throughout the show, Celine would point nonstop at her, smile and wink. The funny thing is: I got a wink too. But it was from the cameraman. Oi vey. HA HA

7. I DROVE ALL NIGHT
Up to the addition of her latest song, "I Drove All Night" visually and vocally demonstrates the power of Celine. When I first saw this performance on Oprah's pre-Premiere show back in 2003, as Celine was lifted up on the riser and she shouted the highest notes in the song and points two fingers up to the sky, I could hear Oprah shouting: "You go, gurlfriend!" Anyway, now back to what happened in the evening of January 20th, 2007. As soon as this song began, we began clapping along to the beats. This is a high-energy song. And it was out opportunity to do the steering-wheel dance, with our clenched fist, jerking left to right over our heads as she sings.... "I drove all night, to get to you. Is that all right?" The funniest part of this song is when the riser carrying Celine is descending, and she is doing some kind of strange hand-motion as though she is drinking coffee and air-signing her name. This was the first time I ever saw that, and I actually looked around to see if any fans were doing the same thing as her. LOL Celine's back-up singers and her wonderful guitarist steps forward as she leaves for a costume change. At the end hundreds of lights in the theatre goes crazy and awesome before the last and power chord was strummed!

8. SEDUCES ME
This song is definitely a show-stopper! It is powerful and gentle at the same time, while emphasizing love in its most intimate and passionate fashion. And for the many theatre patrons, with all the shirtless men: it's probably very seductive. Celine comes out in a flowy black gown; hand-sown design on sheer - see-through in many areas. As the men roll swiftly through the currents of smoke, Celine gets her place in the chair that she has wanted people to try for the last four years. At this time, the cameraman was back on filming section four again. I did not know what to do because he had it directed at me for the whole song. So, I got creative. This is the thing that made Lisa laugh so hard after the show when I told her about the experience. Since it was a seductive and sensual song, I just put my hand on the collar of my suit and pull it forward a little bit, then pulled it back a little bit slowly, and rubbing it to sort of fan my chest - it appeared as though it was "Gettin' hot in there!" and it was "Gettin' to me!" LOL Lisa, I don't remember everything I told you, but I feel like I'm leaving something out in this review LOL!

9. IF I COULD
As planned at dinner, as soon as Celine landed at the front of the stage to sit down, we shouted "On t'aime, Celine!" Celine made an adorable laugh and said "I love you too!" All of a sudden, in UNISON, with me flying out of my chair, we shouted "We love you more!" For the first time ever, I saw Celine jerking her body back in amazement! And she laughs, and she pauses and she says: "I love you most! HA!" Sitting in second row, seat 401, I was extremely close to her, as she sings this anthem of motherly love.

10. POUR QUE TU M'AIMES ENCORE
A masterpiece. This was my very first time ever being the presence of Celine and hearing her perform live in her native language. My heart was just beating. The mellow "heart beats" of the drums at the beginning of this song perfectedly laid the foundation for Celine's voice. "J'ai compris tous les mots, j'ai bien compris, merci" Even though those first few words were totally not applicable for me, because I could not speak French; the beauty of this song in French just totally touched my heart. This song speaks what one would to do in the name of love. Because of the simplicity of the performance in this song, I was able to close my eyes and soak in its beauty.

11. I SURRENDER
"There's so much life, I've left to live..." is the lyrical beginning of this power ballad. This song seemed a little bit more relaxed for the dancers, because I feel that the emphasis was on Celine because she was way back downstage on one of the platforms. Ever since I first heard this song, it has been one of my favorite; it is a very powerful, beautiful, and contemporary love song. No voice would ever be able to sound as amazing attached to this song. As she sings the bridge and beyond, her body appears on the screen as the camera zooms up to her face, and the "fire was no longer burning still," and she is showcased as a vocal powerhouse even to the end of the mega-scream at the end of the song.

12. AMMORE ANNASCUNNUTO
Yow! As the dancers creep slowly from right stage to left stage in the "Italian village" Celine comes in out an outfit that reminds me of a bull-fighter's outfit. She is sporting a gigantic red belt, with her hair tied up in a ponytail.

13. ALL THE WAY
I could not help but sing along to this classic standard - one of her greatest love songs. Celine appears in black-in-white on the screen next to Ole' Blue Eye - the Late and Great Frank Sinatra. What a beautiful tribute. Celine's voice was amazing flawless in this performance. In this theatre, there are several thousand speakers to create true 5.1 surround sound; one of the most advanced theatres in the world. The important sounds are picked up on separate channels; Celine's voice is definitely in its own channel and is the most looked-after. This performance was so cozy and intimate!

14. I'VE GOT THE WORLD ON A STRING
I call this the VEGAS song! The floating gigantic instruments, forming a rainbow of color and visuals makes this song the ever-fun. And yes, we in section 4 were snapping along!

15. I WISH
As soon as the introductory music began, we all jumped up and began clapping to this upbeat, nostalgic Stevie Wonder wonder! The first time I ever saw Celine perform this song, on her "TV Special" back in 2003, I said "Wow! It's great to see her dance!" She seems to have so much fun. And there many parts when she and dancers would come up-stage near the audience, and they would be flailing their arms in the air, and we would be doing it too!

16. LOVE CAN MOVE MOUNTAINS
We remained standing, especially for Celine's most favorite up-beat song, where she could wild and scream, and be her fun self. I think based on what I remember, when she did this song with Wayne Brady ages ago, in her lemon-merengue hair, she was rolling on the stage's floor too! Anyway, for this evening, Celine's supporting singers comes up to sing the song, as she leaves the stage for costume change. I noticed towards the end of the song, an amazing steel beam carrying gigantic lights descend near the ground, glowing brightly at the audience. The song transitions into the Unison rap, which was quite entertaining. "CELINE DION!"

17. RIVER DEEP MOUNTAIN HIGH
MY HEART. MY HEART. MY HEART. This song became the most amazing performance of Celine's in the evening, despite a technical difficulty. Someone described that Celine's hair is crazy is in this song. She comes out in the Tina-Turner-inspired short skirt, showcasing her HOT MOMMA legs, and her hair is SO AMAZING HOT! She goes up to her solo microphone stand and places her microphone on it, as she continues the song. When she's singing the versus, I notice that this performance is inspired by Grease the Musical. At this time, Row BB, Section 4 was experiencing up-close shots by the cameraman. He was really up-in-my-face, so I just clapped, clapped, clapped to the beat of this song and singing "Do I love you, my oh my.... Yeah, river deep, mountain high, yeah, yeah, YEAH!" I have NEVER been more enthusiastic at a concert, and I just felt the energy all around me. Celine's crazy and amazing hair got even hotter when the wind is blowing at her, and the hair gently flies to the left of her face, and her body is slanted as she slants the microphone. Breathtaking, indeed! Then, the musical break comes, and she picks up the top half of the microphone stand, and then she dances with the microphone, with her back to the audience. All of a sudden, an earthquake of sound erupts the speakers, and the speakers turned off, and we could hear Celine singing and see her and the group dancing; but no sound from the speakers! The coolest thing was that us fans began singing the song even louder, and supporting Celine. Then, the speakers came back to life and Celine finishes the song flawlessly, as she and the multiple dancers form a huge line, facing us as an army of one. Then at the end, they all posed in various positions, as Celine lifts up her arm and the lights go out. "Thank you. Have a good night!" Now we are in the dark. I began shouting: "Celine!" I hear Mattias: "Celine!" Then the whole section four "Celine!" Then the audience: "Celine! CELINE! CELINE!" in Unison. Time for an encore performance.

18. MY HEART WILL GO ON
A giant moon comes down. Four caped ladies drenched in white, holding on a giant umbrella "floats" on a platform, doing an extremely interesting dance-walk like mushrooms from Fantasia. The violinist begins playing the introductory music - what sounds like an Irish fiddle. The gentle and poignant sound suddenly touches my heart and brings tears to my eyes. Then, the Irish flute soothes our ears with another rendition of the introduction of "My Heart Will Go On." Celine comes up in a gently and peaceful white gown, with her hair tied up in a bunch. A unique song, and most-definitely, one of the world's greatest and most-recognized love anthems - it was during the era of this song that became a fan of Celine's.

After the show, we all gathered together and just praised each other for not only how amazingly Celine performed, but by how amazing we were as an audience. The energy of us together upstaged and made up for the lazier ones in the audience. The cameras were all around our section, and we made sure we enjoyed every second of the show, and made our money worth it! Then, after exiting the Colosseum, we went to the area near the Boutique and met some of the dancers and Celine's band members. Elijah (the one who was the white clown in the show) was absolutely wonderful and charming. We all sang together in unison the chorus of "River Deep, Mountain High." I rushed to the photo counter to buy my souvenir photograph with wax Celine; got a pin from the Celine Dion Foundation and the beautiful note from Celine. Then, we headed to Cypress Cafe, and we all gathered together in the rear corner. We laughed and talked for a couple hours. I went up to Ramona, whom we all know is the record-holder for having seen the show more times than anyone else in this world! As I greeted her, she goes, "Are you... Love?" And I said, "Yes! I am Love!" It is so funny that I have this username, and I use it to represent myself and what I believe in. And I asked her how she was doing, and she was dancing the whole night. Then, she grabbed my hands, and we jokingly did a little boogie-woogie together. It was at Cypress that Lisa and I began more laughs, as I demonstrated to her, Kevin, Jane, and those around the table exactly what I did during "Seduces Me." Anyway, let's not go back there. I will NEVER forget Lisa's laugh that evening - she gave me the laughing disease, and I told her I lost a few pounds this evening from laughing with her! The staff at Cypress kept twitching and messing with the lights to give us a message that they were closing. They did not want to informally chase us out. Anyway, after going for another 20 minutes at the steps of the Colosseum's entry, I said good night for the evening to the fellow fans, and took off for my hotel.

The evening of January 20th, 2007 will never be forgotten!

Naomi - she is so sweet. She was the one who let the audience know that they will be filmed in the evening. In the IACBTMN DVDs that I gave to Patrick to give to Celine/Rene and to Mego, I had a note written out to Celine and Rene, but I forgot to put on in for Mego. And she was willing to deliver my note to Mego. So Sweet!
