OMG NEW SONG!! Celine Dion Duet with Tony Bennett

Personally, I absolutely love the song. Even though I wish Celine would sing it solo, Tony sounds really great as well, especially for an 80 year old man. Their voices go perfectly together. Celine's big note at the end is a spine-tingler for sure! She was in excellent vocal shape for this one, she sounds just awesome!

Anytime a critic thinks she oversings, usually means it will be a fan favorite. Despite her loud notes, the song is still very beautiful.

LMAO Don't hate on me. I said her voice is good on that but lack of this certain understanding of the song is obvious in my opinion. Why didn't she scream on Bewitched? Cuzz she omehow understood it.

Although Caesars headliner Celine Dion recorded with legendary producer Quincy Jones at the Palms recording studios for the first time, its got nothing to do with her 1st album in 4 years, due next year after her Strip run concludes. She and Quincy partnered for 'I Knew I Loved You,' a tribute song for Italian composer Ennio Morricone, who had the music, but no words, in the 1984 movie 'Once Upon a Time in America.' Hard to believe Celine’s last #1 chart-topper was back in 1998, but fans won’t have to wait to hear her newest. She duets with Tony Bennett on his just-released CD 'If I Ruled The World.' Perfect timing for his Hilton headlining gig October 20-21, with Celine in attendance!!! Meantime, just wondering if there’s future business afoot with Celine and manager-hubby Rene Angelli, because they dined with top Cirque de Soleil execs at Joel Robuchon’s exclusive expensive MGM restaurant, and we all know her show, which ends next year, was created by Cirque’s #1 rival and former partner, Franco Dragone!!! Maybe Celine’s planning to switch when she returns to performing after her self-Imposed year-long hiatus starting next year to have a 2nd baby?

In tribute to Tony Bennett's 80th birthday (August 3, 2006), SONYBMG will release a duets CD in honor of this milestone, to be in stores on September 26th. An impressive roster of vocalists joined Tony in the recording studio earlier this year to record duet versions of the songs most associated with Bennett's repertoire. Celine recorded a new duet called "If I Ruled The World" with the crooner. Among the list of guest duet artists are: Barbra Streisand, Bono, Elton John, John Legend, the Dixie Chicks, James Taylor, k.d. lang, Juanes, Elvis Costello, Tim McGraw and Sting.

 

Each artist performed live with Tony in studios in New York, Los Angeles and London and for many of these artists this "face to face" approach was a departure from their standard method of studio recording. Phil Ramone is the producer for this project.

I'm glad it's doing so well.

 

The duet with k.d. Lang is superior to the rest of the tracks. That's what I think of when I think of a classic duet. The one with Barbara was great too...I wish Celine was a little more intimate like her role model. Hopefully she will be on her future releases.

Living legend Tony Bennett will be celebrating a milestone birthday

The son of a grocer in Astoria, Anthony Dominick Benedetto attended the High School of Industrial Arts in Manhattan, and had vocal studies at the American Theatre Wing school. The first time Bennett sang in a nightclub was at the Shangri-La in Astoria in 1946.

 

"Mr. Bennett," wrote Stephen Holden in the New York Times, August 2, "has steadfastly remained the embodiment of heart in popular music. He pours it into every note he sings and every phrase he swings with a sophistication that deepens his unguarded emotional directness. In the polluted sea of irony, bad faith and grotesque attitudinizing that pop music has become, he is a rock of integrity."

 

The forever young Bennett has recorded a new album, "Duet-An American Classic", a timeless treasure trove of what he calls "the Great American Songbook".

 

Returning to Columbia Records some 20 years ago this will be the artist's 13th new studio collection that the label has released. Bennett's repetoire of duets is performed with some of the top recording artists in contemporary music-Bono, Michael Bublé, Elvis Costello, Celine Dion, Dixie Chicks, Juanes, Billy Joel, Diana Krall, k.d. Lang, John Legend, Paul McCartney, Tim McGraw, George Michael, Sting, Barbra Streisand, James Taylor and Stevie Wonder, with instrumental guest spots by trumpeter Chris Botti and violinist Pinchas Zukerman.

 

"Duets", produced in Los Angeles, New Jersey and London, was recorded live with each guest artist performing sideby side with the singer. A family affair, "Duets-An

 

American Classic" was mixed and recorded at Dae Bennett Studios in Englewood, New Jersey by son Dae and executive producer Danny Bennett.

 

Bennett said,"one [duet] that knocked me out was with the Dixie Chicks. They told me they'd never done anything like this before," referring to the album's opening track, "Lullaby of Broadway" while the track "Smile" with Streisand was a "bull's eye", according to him.

 

Bennett paired off with McCartney on "The Very Thought of You". Bennett went on to say he sang Spanish phonetically with Juanes; recorded "Rags to Riches" with Elton John in only three takes; said piano man Billy Joel was a major talent; McGraw was very authentic and sang wonderfullly, and Krall's jazz styling on "The Best Is Yet To Come" was a joy.

Celine really should have toned it down on this song. It's just not quite soft enough...and I hope she considers that for her new album. But I still love the song!
