TURNS BACK TIME

April 11, 2006 -- RETIREMENT obviously doesn't sit well with Cher, who might be the next superstar to set up shop in Las Vegas. The well-preserved diva-saur - who just finished a three-year "farewell" tour - is in talks to take the stage at the Coliseum at Caesars Palace for a whopping $60 million when Celine Dion gives up the same stage next year. Cher will be paid roughly the same sum Barry Manilow is getting to warble his moldy hits at the Las Vegas Hilton. Elton John also has a regular gig at Caesars. A rep for Cher didn't return calls or e-mails.

WOW.. I thought she's retiring? And she still wants to perform?

So suddenly, it's clear to me

Things change

Our future lies in here and now

We live it through somehow

Now the greatest reward

Is the love that I can give

I'm here for you now

For as long as I live

You made me who I am

WOW! Has anyone looked at Cher lately. Sort of a cross between Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. (old, haggered and trampy. Not to mention Chers mouth and morals) If that happens, it will certainly lower the rent in the neighborhood. Cher is a has-been ever since she dumped Sonny. Cher never drew the crowds in concert that she did when "Sonny & Cher was the headliner. there is no way Cher will pack those seats like Celine. Celine, from a money stand point, is not replacable.

Alas, I think it is too early to give creedance to this news because you know that Caesar's will try to hook celine in for another year. They have too much too loose if she goes. And Celine may just do it because Celine and Rene both know that this is her big break, here and now, and she will never be at this point again in her career after another few years off. She will be too old for the younger set to identify with. How many come-backs can one really expect to have in life? And I think we all know in the back of our minds that once Celine "takes another break" She will be gone for a long, long, long time. Possibly never to return. :( The family is what she really wants. (and that's totally cool)! :D

Actually, I believe ( no pun intended ) that Cher can pack that theater. Keep in mind a lot of the people seeing the show are tourists that just happened to buy a ticket because they happened to be there, not to mention the high rollers and whatnot. I was also at Cher's "farewell tour" and the entire arena was packed solid. I saw her three times and all three times it was almost impossible to get a ticket. I also think that Cher's music would be presented more elaborate than Celine's. There would be more stunts than in "A New Day..." Also, another reason why Celine's show sells out almost every night is because of ticket brokers and scalpers. There have been plenty times when I have been to a "sold out show" and seen many seats empty. I find it hard to believe that over 100 people could have had something happen those times that would make it impossible for them to show. With that said I believe Cher could blow the Colosseum away if she was promoted properly and the show was created in a way that the audience could connect to. That's just my two cents.

Interesting news! I think Cher is popular and maybe she could fill the seats...you never know. People were skeptical about Celine filling the seats and she did at first. But the longer a show is around the less "sold out" shows you are going to have. I think once the show is officially announced to end, we should see a lot more sold out shows especially if they change the show a little.

I had never been thinking what's going on to be next after Celine finishes her performing...

I think Cher is a good candidate, not looking at her age and appearance. She is a huge star and still with good vocal skills. :) She has been on stage few decades and there are a lot of fans all over the world, who would love to hear and see her again.

It would be wise to make a show for a couple of years and see how it goes... However Cher always had energetic and colorfull shows... it should work this time as well. But I doubt that Cher will be able to sing five days a week. :ermm:

For sure Celine is doing almost utmost and I am hesitating to recall any other artist who can perform so much and so tense.

Vegas was an experience as she said, an adventure, but it can not be for her all life and fortunately for us, french-speacking fans :P . I'm soooory but it will be our play, I hope... :in_love:

Hm I don't really believe it. Cher said the farewell tour was her last. And that's why it was so spectacular *The performance in Bang Bang is absolutely great*. But let's wait and see.

And that was a wrap, folks!

I don't know if this is true or not. But ages agao there were rumours that Cher would do a stay in LV. Since Celine a lot of the big stars seem to want to do this.

The reason Cher wanted to say "farewell" was not the performing it was all the travelling whilst on tour. So this could suit her down to the groud. She would be a big hit in Vegas. OK it won't be the same, but Cher is great!

How do you describe a feeling??

Maybe MC in front of an empty theatre!! (kidding)

I believe that the artist who will be after Celine, will have much less success that her.

I don't care about who would be there after Celine, if it's someone can sing, not someone like Britney...

I have no interest to Vegas before Celine was there, nor after.

I think Cher is a good choice. She always puts on flamboyant shows and she can definitely fill that place. She had a farewell tour, but I think have a show in the same place every night is different then touring the world. So maybe she would be up for it.

Seeing Celine leave will be bittersweet. In Vegas it was easy to plan trips to see her. She also became much more accessible to the fans. And I love how you could just run into Rene, or Michel or Mego in Caesars Palace. But at the same time the Vegas show is keeping her from doing a lot of other things, like really working in depth on an album or doing promotional stuff. So there are pluses and minuses to each. It wont feel right though to see someone else in that Collusseum.

I do love the idea of Cher and Elton performing in the same place though. . .lmao

It has been confirmed by herself via FOX News:

Cher Says She'll Replace Celine In '08

Cher, the mighty mighty Cher, has not retired after all. She told me on Friday night it’s definite: she will replace Celine Dion at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas. As with Celine, Caesar’s will build a unique palace for Cher, with a launch date in 2008.

Ironies abound here because Cher, of course, used to mimic Cleopatra on her old TV series. Now she’s moving into Cleo’s house, so to speak.

This news came to me when I ran into Cher at the Friday night after party for Jake Kasdan’s much in demand spoof film, "The TV Set." Sigourney Weaver steals this film as a clueless, narcissistic network exec whose goal it to thwart any quality in an upcoming series. Sigourney is so dead on hilarious that I predict she will be nominated for (at the very least) a Golden Globe award and probably much more when the winner of much spirited bidding releases "The TV Set" this fall.

Thanks for the confirmation!

The Colosseum cost $100 million dollars or something extravagant like that. They won't tear it down after a few years of use. It says they will build something new for Cher or maybe they can adapt the Colosseum in some way. But the Colosseum is still a great venue for other singers so they would still be able to use it.

I agree with you, Thomas. :flowers: They won't tear it down, I'm sure. :)

I hope so....:)

But you know how things go in Vegas, they build stuff and they tear it down (in just a couple of years)..

I think Caesars can attract more tours if they have a venue that isn't used every night. At the moment the tours might not be able to come to Caesars Palace because Celine or Elton is already using the Colosseum. But if Cher has her own place then the Colosseum will only be used by Elton, and he doesn't use it that often. So it will be available to other big names like Mariah, U2, Madonna etc. And this means more choice for the tourists and more money for Caesars.

Exactly my point. And then, every big name hosted by the Colosseum will get to see Céline's statue. Imagine Whoriah's face... :giggle:
