Why are we here?

Why are we here in this world? I think the reason we are put on this LOVELY earth is because GOD or any other GOD that people believe in has a special job for us to do. I also think that if we wern't put here we wouldn't get to know each other as individuals. That's why I think we were put here on this LOVELY earth to begin with. Opinions WANTED and VALUED, & R-E-S-P-E-C-T-E-D. Everyone GOT THAT? :msn-wink:

I don't believe in God neither. But I'm sure out there is something that we can not understand, something more powerful than us..(and I'm not talking about little green men :lmao: )

Believing is very personal so there aren't wrong or right answers. I don't know why are we here...we all have some kind of purpose (sp), we are the pieces on this huge puzzle, but who is putting the pieces together  Too many questions, too little answers...

I don't know what to say...so I'm gonna end this with xf phrase...

you can say i believe there is a God but i have no religion. so i really dunno why are we here.

things happen for a reason...

I have absolutely no freaking clue why we're here and neither does anyone else. People can believe whatever they want as long as they don't try and cram it down everyone elses throat.

You're so right.

The most annoying thing when it comes to discussing belief and faith is when people try to convince their belief is the right one.

I'm Christian, Catholic so it answers a lot. Yes I believe in God and yes I believe there is a plan for all of us and a reason why every single one of us is here. I believe every single person has it's own mission, every single person is needed. And somewhere down the road you'll find these answers.

Sure I'm not too much worried thinking why I am here. I guess my answer will come one day.

I believe that there is some kind of spiritual element to the world, but I remain strictly deist, I don't believe any religion to be any more than religious dogma.

I would NEVER cram my religion down anybody's throat. I just wanted to know people's thoughts and opinions about why we are here, that's all. :innocent:

We are here just for a walk, to learn, to mature, to grow. Where we will be in 80 years, i don't know, you don't know. Nobody knows. All you can do is believe. And believing is a good way to live life if you don't forget to keep on living. In whatever you believe, and the way you believe is your own decision. Edited by ZoraSourit

I believe that people are bacteria in something "bigger".. just like there are bacteria in our body who works for us (or against us) so are we in this universe, we are too small to see the bigger picture.

I also don't belive in paradise. This life is our paradise and this is the only chance we have. Many religions talk about a life after death and that attracts new members: be good and you'll come to paradise.

It is too painfull for people to deal with loss, so it's easier to think that their loved ones are in a good place (heaven?).

I believe that loved ones live in the hearts and memories of people that loved them.

When we die our body (& energy) will give life to other living things.

I believe that everybody makes a difference or leave a mark on this earth during their life. Nothing's in vain.

That's what I believe.

I am a christian as well and all I believe in is heaven and hell. Those who are followers of GOD will go to Heaven and those who are followers of the devil will go to hell.

Like I said before, I am not trying to cram my religion down anybody's throat. I am expressing my thoughts and opinions about why we are here. That's all.

I think it's time for my imput :xmas_tongue:

Why are we here? Well, I think we're all here for a reason and all we can do is wait until our time comes to pursue (sp) what God has in plan for us. I'm Christian, so I believe there's a plan for all of us, otherwise there would be no point for out existance. :xmas_mellow: All we can really do it lead a clean life, and live it to the fullest. And whenever our time comes to do what we're called to do, we'll know it. :xmas_happy:

Ain't it amazing how we all have our own opinion on stuff like this!? :kicking: :xmas_happy:

Thought this would be a good place to begin my time on this board. Well, why do I believe we are here.... Well now interesting question. I believe that we are here thanks to a big cosmic accident. I don't believe that we have a higher purpose on this earth. I believe that we are here as the present pinnacle of natural selection. We are not destined to anything, we make our own decisions which have their own consequences which have nothing to do with a guiding power. We are here purely as a transport vehicle for our DNA, the building block of all life on earth and have no other purpose than to spread it!

Well thats how I see it. I've been told I can be depressing but hey I just call it how I see it. I'm a scientist, the only way I'll believe that we have a purpose for being here is if I have proof of that fact!

I believe we are all put on this Earth for a reason or a calling. I too am Christian and Catholic, and believe that God has a plan for us, we don't always know it, but things happen in our lives for a reason. We are called to do something, some of us find out what it is sooner than others. After we fulfill that, then our time is up. Unfortunately that means that some people die at a very young age while others live for decades. It's God's decision, and I believe he only takes the good ones, which is why the good die young, and the scums and bastards of this world still live among us. That's one part of my religion I don't agree with. The child molesters and murders should be the first to go.

I think so too. So many people think people at my school keep saying that the good die young; I don't wanna start an argument so I don't say anything, but I really don't think it's destined for the young to die young. I really think it's up to God to decide that too. He knows when it's time to go home.

i use to ask myself questions like this one before, but i don't anymore. i don't know why we're here but as long as we have this life, let's live it :thumbsup2: and i also don't think that the good die young and that's 'cause i know a lot of good people that are old...and i think it's stupid...i mean, why would God wanna leave only bad people on Earth sence He created it...i think if He would decide hwo dies first He'd pick the bad to go first, but i don't think He decides when we die, like i don't think He decides anything for us.I think our life is influenced only by our choiceses and the ones of the people around us...and maybe by the nature, and don't say that this is the way God influences us, 'cause He created nature like He created us and doesn't controls it...that's just what i think :xmas_happy: :bye1:

I believe we are here to experience something.

I am Christian and I was raised with very religious aunts and a grandmother, but that doesn't mean I'm very religious. I believe that there is a God but i also believe in reincarnation, which some Christians would probably find ridiculous. I don't go to church and i haven't for 4 going on 5 years, i just don't see why we have to go to church for God to forgive us. I, also, believe that we chose the life that we are living for a particular reason, maybe to learn a lesson or to experience something but whatever the reason we chose this life that we are living and once we die we do not die eternally but we are then come back as another person to fill, yet another experience or whatever it may be that we come to do. That's why i believe in Old souls and new souls, do you know the phrase people use when they look at children or babies? they always say "he's an old soul" so his soul has been here before in another life but when he's a "new soul" he has never been in this life before. I know some people would say, "but why would i choose this life, if i could choose my life it would've been someone famous or to be able to be rich" but you see you are more rational at choosing a specific task and you want to live that experience to learn something.

I use to be very frightened as a child when my family told me that when i died i was going to heaven where it is peaceful, for eternity, and i always thought to myself, i was always afraid to voice my opinions to my family cause they were very religious, that when we go to heaven what do we do there and wouldn't it be boring just doing nothing for eternity? That's why i believe in reincarnation.

I don't care why we're here. I'm more interested in when I get to leave. That's what I'm looking forward to most and I really can't wait. If there were a God, I'd pray to be taken on the first bus leaving the depot, but there isn't one, cause that prayer hasn't been answered after twenty-three years of repeating it. Maybe there's something else to pray. Hmmm...

And the good don't die any younger than the "bad". We just hear about it more and think it's such a shame when the good die "too young" that we think good ones die younger all the time and bad ones live forever. It's only perception, not truth. Bad ones die young too, but no one cares to tell anyone about them.

A christian by it's very definition is someone who follows christ's beliefs.... if you believe in reincarnation you are therefore not a christian. I hate to argue semantics on this but I went out with a girl for 5 years who claimed to be a catholic.... she wasn't. I argued this point to the death with her. A catholic is someone who believes in papal infallibility (the pope is always right) so no sex before marriage, no contraception, mass every sunday, confession every other sunday and all that bull. Personally I believe in christian ideals (judge not lest ye be judged etc) but I am completely secular in my beliefs

I think he is trying to differentiate between Christian and Catholic and he is elaborating on what is "suppose" to be an ideal Christian and an ideal Catholic. I also consider myself to be a Christian, but I am perfect in NO way, I am a sinner like everyone else and I fall short of the glory of God in every way. And to answer your question, Our God is a very forgiving God he forgives anyone who asks for it, no sin is greater than another, they are all equal.

Don't quote me on any of this lol. I'm not the BIBLE, and I am sure I may be inaccurate.
