Who's Really The Biggest Female Selling Artist?

I don't know why this is being discussed. The industry recognized celine is the best-seller last year. No one sold more than that in 1 year. I think that it will be very hard to do better than that because now the albums don't sell like before.

Celine is the best selling female artist. Period.

Even Sony said that it's almost impossible anyone to overtake this record nowadays... and I think the same... Now, albuns doesn't sell as before... doesn't even comes close... So, Celine will continue being THE BEST SELLER EVER!

I love this kind of questions: one questions and hundret answers; or hundrets questions and no single exact answer...

 

People can fly to the moon, clones sheeps and listen to Eminem...

 

But one thing too difficult: telling who is the best ever selling female singer.

 

My opinion? Celine of course! Not because I am here in this forum, and not (only) because her voice charms prosecco-feelings in my heart...

 

No a lot of statistics tell about Celine as one of the most succesfull singers in the USA (the biggest music market on earth) very close by Mariah and Madonna - and than we have a very serious statistik from Europe (the second music market) where Celine is the absolut best female artist ever... with a big, big distance to madonna (the second selling female singer there).

 

And so I think Celine has this crown for the moment. The chiffers of all other markets (Japanese, Chinese etc.) are not so hight (for western artist) for canceling this simple addition.

 

I don't count the singels because they arn't lucratively for artist or labels. What is counting are albums... till now.

 

But in the future too, nobody will give us an absolut answer, because the online-music-market will desfigure the chiffers more and more.

And I think every record is inpactable, and if Celine don't will record very good and successfull albums soon, some Madonnas and Mariahs will overhaul her.

 

And one more question: What's about Tina Turner (with Ike and as a single performer...)???

 

But who cares...? Celine is the best. For me. Selling millions or Dozens albums...

I was recently involved in a discussion like this. I think maybe Celine has sold the most albums worldwide if you include the French albums. I don't really care now because no one agrees. Each person stands up for their particular favorite artist. Some things no one will agree even when facts are presented. To me, Celine is the best- she has the most beautiful songs (so many I can't even believe it myself). She has the most beautiful, clear, controlled and powerful voice consistently. I think that's a fact unless a person doesn't hear very well. She is a very emotional and passionate performer. She loves to sing and it's obvious that she cares the most about that- not setting records. Barbra Streisand sings that way also but I think Celine has even more beautiful songs in an even shorter time period To me, they are the two best singers ever but now I like Celine more and I have almost all of Barbra Streisand's recordings in my collection. But now I am more a fan of Celine.

Yes, Barbra is the "triple threat" so to speak. I used to think "oh, Celine Dion is just trying to be like Barbra Streisand and she never will be" Haha, it's very funny because I didn't even know back then that Barbra was Celine's idol so when I heard that on the Oprah Winfrey show- I thought "Ooh, so that explains it- why she was singing in the same style as Barbra" Well, now I even like Celine more. It's funny how my stupid prejudice blinded me to the reality that Celine is such a great singer and person. I learned from that experience that I need to be more open-minded about things.

i don't think we can know for sure WHO is actually the best selling female artist. but i know for sure that i don't need anything like this to continue loving Celine and to continue believing that she IS the best singer in the world nowadays... she is just too good to be compared with mariah and madonna....

I think Céline is the biggest selling female artist coz in the "You" magazine about 3 months ago had an article about Mariah Carey and they said she was the biggest selling female artist but the number that they had stated was not even close to 175 million i, being a Céline fan, freaking and got all upset and wanted to write a big fat letter to them explaining that Céline had won the diamond award for the being the biggest selling female artist OF ALL TIME and NOT Mariah Carey.

 

I don't think they'd make a mistake at the awards and not do proper research before anouncing the biggest selling female artist of all time.

I don't think something like that is really quantifiable. I don't think sales really matter anyway. The music is the most important I.M.O.

I think it's hard to tell. I mean all those "official" numbers which for ex. coming from Soundscan are starting in 1991 and many singers like Madonna, Barbra and even Celine have started a lot earlier than that, and sometimes they mix up albums and discs (which includes albums and singles) and then Céline has a lot of Best-Ofs and early-songs-collections that were released. And then in US and Europe they have different ways of counting them. I wonder why there is no official worldwide system that tracks down all released albums for the past 50-60 years. All those numbers are only estimated and in the end, they aren't really important.

And not to mention things like double discs and stuff, which accounts for two copies sold in the US.
