Céline and the U.S.

Alanis becomes U.S. citizen (MSN)

I just read about Alanis becoming a U.S. citizen and I was wondering if Celine was?? I know R.C. is because he was born in Florida, but has Celine taken the oath for citizenship in the U.S.?? As far as I know she is not a U.S. citizen, but I would think it would be cool if she took on dual citizenship like Alanis because Celine's home is in the Heart of Quebec in Canada, but Celine also has a home away from home here in the U.S. and she has so many ppl who love her in the U.S. :thumbsup2:

*shrugs* I mean probably.... afterall.... how could she have a drivers license here if she didn't? Of course it's very posible she doesn't have one at all... I would have thought we'd have heard about that somewhere, I imagine Rene does for sure though

We might kiss when we are alone... When nobody's watching... We might take it home... We might make out... When nobody's there... It's not that we're scared... It's just that it's delicate... We might live like never before... When there's nothing to give... Well how can we ask for more... We might make love in some sacred place... The look on your face is delicate

I think Celine answered she won't change her citizenship last year or a little earlier.

Actually, you don't need to be a citizen to have a driver's license  :P  I thought you could only be a citizen of one country?

That's right. You don't need to be a citizen to have a driver's license. :msn-wink: And I'm also wondering. I thought you can only be a citizen of one country? You can be a citizen of more than one? :confused1:

In Finland you can have like a double citizenship..of course depending on the other country's laws and stuff. But if you are American and you live in Finland and want to become a citizen here, you don't have to give up your American citizenship in order to get the Finnish one, so you have a double citizenship.

especially when you can bring a lot money to where you live. :msn-wink:

in some countries you can only have one, in some countries you can have more. I heard Canada allow more than one citizenship. but I still believe Celine only has Canadian citizenship.

I know there are special citizenship exceptions for the famous, I just can't recall exactly what those exceptions are.

I don't think Celine has obtained US citizenship, she is so true to her roots I doubt she ever will.

I was thinking about the citizenship thing today. Anyone know if things have changed since this thread appeared back in 2005?

Celine and Rene owe there existence to the US. Without the US and English, she would just be another singer the world never new. A dual citizenship would be appropriate though. :thumbsup2:

I think she is a Resident Alien. lol. she deserves a citizenship thou.

I don't think Celine is a US citizen. She probably does not need to be one although I would think that RC

has duel citizenship, since he was born in the US and I would think they would want him to also be a Canadian. The best for all would be dual citizenship. B)

Just like me she might have a green card (its actually pink) they usually expired every 10 years so if she does have one she might be becoming a US citizen soon, also like me she can have dual citizenship.

Its not a bad thing to just have a green card , i go and come back as many times as i want as long i dont stay out of the U.S for more then 6 months otherwise i loose it. Or maybe she might have a working visa for entertaiment, most celebrities have that instead of a green card. With that visa you can work and live in the U.S for as long as the visa was given for, before my greencard i had a tourist visa for life but i became a resident so that went away.

I don't think so... Celine stresses about it so much that she will never reclaim her roots. She is and always will be a Canadian citizen. She probably has some kind of temporary thing, but I'm sure she's not a permanent U.S. resident... that's just turning her back on everthing she's ever said. :nono: And that's just not her kind of person. DOES IT REALLY MATTER IF SHE IS OR NOT? AT THE END OF THE DAY CELINE WOULD SAY THAT SHE IS CANADIAN AND THATS ALL THAT MATTERS.

Ah I hope I can get a green card too.. perhaps I can come to US whenever I want.

So suddenly, it's clear to me

Things change

Our future lies in here and now

We live it through somehow

Now the greatest reward

Is the love that I can give

I'm here for you now

For as long as I live

You made me who I am

She probably has a work permit, God knows she works a lot here in the E-U.

Actually once u have a child in the U.S. u become a citizen. I think also if you've lived here for seven years you become a citizen. So yes, Celine must be a citizen.

Thanks for the clarification :flowers: I can't believe I posted this topic 2 years ago! ^_^

It was funny, because I was scrolling through the topics the other day and came across this one and I was like "What a great question!" Turns out I am the one who asked it 2 years ago!!!

It doesn't really matter. But for me, 'cos Celine's a canadian and loves her country so i think she'll stick as a canadian.

If someone has a child they do not become a citizen of the US, only the child is a legal citizen of the US. (If only it were that easy to become a citizen.)

People can apply to be a "permanent resident" after 10 years you can apply for citizenship easily. My mom so far hasn't applied mostly because now becoming a citizen cost over $300 just to fill out the application. :/

Really? Wow, maybe you're right because there are so many ppl having kids now a days...$300? Kind of pricey for an application. Well good luck! I hope your mom will get the finances for that soon
