Play Me Like A Love Song!!!  :-D

If the Olympic appearance does turn out to be true, I do think it would be a disappointment and a missed opportunity for it not to be a new song written for the occasion (or at least premiered there, if not literally an Olympic themed lyric), even if just as a stand-alone track rather than the launch of a new album or similar.  

I can just imagine Céline showing up for her great comeback at the Olympics and trotting out I'm Alive or The Power Of Love... :wacko:

Yes, but I think they got it “partly” right….

They announced the team would be releasing a compilation album which is true with the documentary soundtrack to coincide with her  “retirement” I think they assumed that when they got word the team was releasing a hits album.

They’ve also got a lot right about lot of artists.

I think they are… like I said one would assume because she is “ill with sps” that a hits album was to go with a retirement but it was actually for the documentary . I think they had insider info on the album and then assumed because of the retirement.. that Celine herself basically said isn’t happening…she said she can’t just sit and wait around.

At big events like that aren’t the performances usually backing tracks anyway? I’d imagine that for her very first performance in front of the entire world, that she would
Opt for something safe like a prerecorded live track and as much as I hate when performers use them, in this case I’d welcome it for celine.

I can usually spot her lipping a mile away, mainly how she over performs with her hands when she’s lipping but that one fooled me I guess.

Some live adlibs at the end to show “I still got it *censored*” would be amazing.
Less nervewracking for her and probably overall a better performance. You have to imagine if this ends up being her first live performance in over four years, it has to be the most nerve-racking performance of her life given that she’s performing in the midst of this illness and with millions or people tuning in

Most of those major events like the Super Bowl anthems or the Olympics Opening Ceremonies feel that everything has to go right and there's just too much at stake to leave things to chance, so they require artists to perform to a track.  They didn't always and it led to some not-so-great performances, so at least this way it removes any doubt and theoretically ensures flawlessness (at least vocally!) as long as the tech cooperates.  There may still be a few that allow live vocals - or artists that refuse to mime - but they've become fewer and farther between.  

Even if Céline's voice was in amazing shape, I doubt she'd be willing to take the chance of something going wrong with her big comeback.  Imagine the headlines!
