There's no way Celine will be a surprise. They'll want to capitalize off that.  Way too early in my opinion to announce it, I mean, I think they should only do it like two weeks in advance

I mean, if it is happening, and they do pre-announce it (both massive ifs), then perhaps my suspicion in the other thread is warranted. That the choice of NBC for a prime-time interview is part of NBC's pre-Olympic buildup.

Well that NBC decision did come out of nowhere. Like we said ABC/GMA and Deborah Roberts was their go to girl, for the last 10 years. So there could be something to that theory. Kelly Clarkson (of nbc) will also be in Paris hosting coverage, let’s see if the NBC trend continues and Celine makes an appearance on her show.

I mean, unless they are just very mean and teasing us for nothing, if she was not coming, they could always say "Well, of course, we wish Celine could sing if she was not having her health issues... Normally Celine would be the first person we'd contact but since she has been fighting with SPS we just wish her good recovery... If only it was possible, we'd love to have her...., We asked her for the song in 2012, so of course we would ask her again if she was not sick" etc............

Interestingly though, the statement says nothing about the potential artists mentioned in these same reports.

Also, the musical director of the ceremonies is one Victor Le Masne, also musical director of that revival of Starmania.
Both he and Thomas are elder millennials so would have grown up with Celine being everywhere and appreciating her cultural impact.

Consider the source before lending this any credence but the Daily Mail picked up on the story, and while most of the article is the same as what we got from French press in these last few days, they also have this quote:
“A Paris 2024 spokesman said of Ms Dion: ‘We will all need to stay patient to keep the surprises we have in store, which are going make this ceremony unforgettable.’”

i think with this disease , they probably have a backup plan for another singer and will wait until the last day; god forbid something happens to her a day before , if she can - she will sing, if she can't, no one will even know that she was planning to do it.

a new french album would be amazing
and jj coming out of retirement would be equally great

it would be nice to see celine collaborate with younger artists , for example singer pomme is a big fan of celine , she could have written a song for her.

Yes, another reason I think even if she is part of the plan, it won’t be announced.
But, what could be announced is some kind of an official Olympic single. While a performance might be too much to hope for, I feel like the Paris 2024 organizers would have asked her to be involved in some way, and recording an Olympic song seems like something she could do.  She did one for their bid campaign, right?
Perhaps that’s what all the hints being dropped are about. Would the official Olympic social media accounts be posting about her randomly like that without reason? Remember we’ve been wondering why the odd late June doc release date. Perhaps an Olympic song release is somehow timed around the doc release. I think that’s entirely plausible.

If this documentary comes and goes and NOTHING happens shortly after it, like an Olympic song/ performance or Las Vegas announcement etc. we will all be scratching our heads. This June date still makes no sense, unless Amazon prime had a slow month and single handedly choose this month. I’m not sure how it works with these type of deals… once it was sold off to Amazon, do they have the final say or do they collaborate with the artist (Celine) and the Irene’s company?

It’s usually up to the distributor to set the strategy (they paid for the right, after all) but if they could ride on the coattails of promo done by others of course they’d do it. Might be collaborating with Sony on release timing but not Vermillion - Irene was responsible for production. Once that’s wrapped it would be out of her hands.

You can see for instance re the Roger Federer doc - Amazon is premiering it at Tribeca and it goes live on Prime Jun 20th, just before Wimbledon (where he reigned), so that timing is definitely not random.

So that would mean IF Amazon did indeed work in collaboration with Sony or Celine’s team that back in April when the documentary release was announced or likely some time before that, they already knew about something coming after June. It’s possible for sure but seems unlikely to me that Celine’s team would be looking so far into the future whether it was Olympic appearances or Vegas residency with the uncertainty of SPS. Or if they did hopefully that means she’s been stable for sometime and they are confident as can be about about her future. So many questions.

Well, if it’s just a single, that doesn’t require her physical participation, so relatively low risk. But yes, even something like that would be planned months in advance.

I would love to see her at the Olympics again...enough time has passed since 1996 to make this quite an occasion in its own right.
