For this documentary in particular, I am looking forward more to the interviews with Irene. The film's eloquence will be stronger if Céline doesn't get too much media exposure during this time. And I hope that despite the Amazon deal, the film won't be lost in the flood of "a lot of things to buy" (especially since the last few years on her social media have been mostly "a lot of things to buy"). Given the subject of the documentary and the reality of life, there is something embarrassing about this capitalization of everything, including illness or disability - or at least I have a problem with it.
I'm not talking about merchandise. I'm talkin' about the possible concerts that we, the fans, would like to have. I'm sorry, but I don't agree at all with the capitalisation, sickness. I don't agree at all.
Céline has always shared her good and bad moments. Like her niece Karine's diseases, René's cancer, to name a few.
It is about helping, as she has done all her life since the beginning of her career, and in this case making diseases visible.
Céline would not allow this to be exploited in any twisted way.
What matters to me is that Céline is doing well and if she can help people that are suffering from SPS and other diseases, I am grateful for her great work and generosity.
And yes, I have talked about business with Amazon, but in a different sense, please, come on.
She is an artist and the projects are going to have to be published.
Maybe I commented on the wrong post.
I hope my point has been understood

Oh yes, I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND where you are coming from with the merchandise situations. I think that you do make a very good point about that.

Now I have NO PROBLEMS with the release of her concerts, songs, videos, etc that have been PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED, & we all know that Sony Music has LOTS OF GOODIES hiding in the "Vault", some of that stuff could be released (obviously I do realise that Sony is waiting until Celine eventually **passes away** to release some of the previously unreleased stuff,) but there are quite a few things they could release from the "Vault" to add on Amazon Prime Video along with documentary! (Currently, Celine only has 2 videos available on Amazon Prime Video: the "Taking Chances Tour - Boston Concert" release, & the "Through The Eyes Of The World" documentary that accompanies that tour, & both were released what, about 15 years ago now? I do own both of those btw, & I have watched them both many times over the years!)

But as far as "Regular Non-entertainment Merchandise" (ie stuff to buy at concerts or on an artists website, such as T-shirts, hats, key chains, water bottles, whatever other crapola with the artists name, or names, on it,) IS NOT MY THING! & it is like that for me with ALL SINGERS & GROUPS I LIKE, not only just with Celines stuff. Having a bunch of essential junk with a singers or groups Logo/Brand all over it is just not my style, when I have been to a few concerts near where I live at in the Southern Maryland/Washington DC areas, I have really NEVER had the interest of buying concert T-shirts, key chains, hats, water bottles, or whatever else they were trying to sell etc... Now I understand there are many fans into that, I guess to have any "souvenirs/mementos" of the concerts they went to, but again I am just there to experience the show (& take a few pictures of the show for "souvenirs/mementos" of the show for myself, pictures are what I prefer anyway, I would rather have pictures of the concert instead a bunch of junk that I would never use or wear lol. To each their own lol, all of us are different.)

So I would very hard pass at the regular "run-of-the-mill merchandising", but I would LOVE to have more concerts of Celines finally released, & maybe even a few of previously unreleased songs released, for us fans to enjoy instead of just collecting dust sitting in Sony Music's Vaults lol. 😀❤

Well I do see where you are coming from with the whole "Regular Non-Entertainment Merchandise" products, such as T-shirts, water bottles, hats, key chains, etc which to me would look VERY TACKY to sell alongside the documentary. & personally, ANY kind of junk merchandising, pretty much anything with an artists name/face/Logo plastered all over the products, IS NOT MY THING TO SPEND $$ ON, but I know some people are into that kind of stuff, but personally it is not something I am into anyway as I am a "Plain-Jane & simple-styled" clothes/shoes/jewelry/accessories kind of girl & I ain't changing that lol.

I do think that "Dreamy" is talking more of Sony Music potentially releasing PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED CONCERTS, SONGS, etc from the "Vaults", which we all know there are PLENTY of stuff they could release on Amazon Prime Video to go alongside the Documentary! & I think that would make most of us fans VERY HAPPY FANS if Sony did that, I know I would be THRILLED if they did! Right now on Amazon Prime Video, there are only 2 items available on there, & they were released 15 years ago! So yes, I think we all could use some unreleased concerts, videos, songs, etc from Celine, especially with the current situation with her health & the uncertainty of everything of her career right now, it would tie us all over!

Come on Sony, OPEN THE VAULTS! 🙏❤

Sincerely, Celine Dion fans from all over the world

But if there is minimal media coverage, that will hinder streaming, and also lessen the spread of word for SPS.

I think that comment was more in reference to MHWGO keychains and the like. Tying the doc release to merch marketing emails would just be gauche.

Rest assured, this is not an accusation against Céline, but against the system. So much has already been written about the capitalization of everything - feelings, relationships, human dramas, and even the capitalization of attempts to resist capitalism - that this is a rather trite observation. And it's clear that the production of a film is also a business venture and should pay off for everyone: both the authors, the heroine, the producers and the distributors. It's just that the mercantile aspect should not overshadow the others. Especially with a documentary on such a socially important topic.

And in a broader context: it is clear that Céline is an entrepreneur and that she is a commodity brand - fortunately, she is neither exclusively nor even primarily one. Although for many years she was treated primarily as a commodity to sell as well as possible (that's how the repertoire was arranged, that's how the image was shaped) - certainly to the profit of her career, but was it always to her own benefit as an artist? Some will say yes, others (of which I count myself among them) will say not necessarily.

Well, J Lo sure is working hard to promote her upcoming album / Amazon-distributed doc! No longer sure this is so comparable (in terms of how Amazon release strategy for the Céline doc might play out) since J Lo self-financed this film and it accompanies what she’s calling potentially her last album.
https://www.instagra...nhscG52OGd1eA==

Céline doc not yet on the Amazon upcoming releases page:
https://press.amazon...original-movies, but they’re releasing a Frida Kahlo doc in several weeks so let’s see how they promote that one.

I’m surprised we didn’t get the typical team Celine post this year promoting a sale on all the junk they have left over from the tour with a “Valentines Day Special” that’s about all her social media team is good a doing.

Back to the documentary though… I’m curious to know what you think their motive was about announcing a documentary with no release date… and when do you guess they at least give us a tentative date of release? It’s all odd so far.

I literally just got an ad for the double orange LP for LTAL as a Valentine’s Day gift suggestion lmao

I believe they announced it purely because of the Grammys appearance. It was the Wed right before the Grammys it was announced wasn’t it? My bet is that’s when Celine confirmed to the Grammys she would do it and her team wanted the press release out there so any media outlets commenting on her appearance could mention the upcoming doc. It’s promotion after all.

According to Le Parisien (I think), she was contacted about 10 days before the Grammys, so that checks out. Though which came first, the chicken or the egg? Did Grammy producers see the doc press release and decided to contact her? Or did Amazon & Sony run the press release in response to the Grammy ask?

Oh defo the second option. I think. I can see absolutely no reason why they would share the press release so early. The doc isn’t listed anywhere as upcoming so it’s not imminent. There is literally nothing to gain from releasing it now. The Grammys asked then they decided to share it so it would get some attention in the many articles about her appearance. It worked too!

Yeah but what’s the point if it worked, this doesn’t ensure that people who go back and watch this documentary later when it releases. It’s hard to promote something when it doesn’t even have a date of release.

I imagine we’re in for another dry spell, at least until festivals start announcing their lineups.

It’s really quite surprising how much they’ve managed to keep under wraps, about this doc and the last few years in general. I know people working for her are probably all under NDAs, but still, she couldn’t have been entirely home bound through all the treatments and the filming, and everyone she would have come in contact with is armed with a smartphone, yet nothing leaked. (Other than through Claudette, though of course a lot of what she said turned out to be inaccurate).
Say what you will about their social media and marketing prowess, but Team Céline runs a tight-lipped ship!

I've wondered how this Grammy surprise came to life.

Maybe we are in for some more treats, but another 3 months of complete silence seems more likely.

It seems to me that the announcement of the documentary was not so much to promote it (because it's probably too early for that), but to dismiss intrusive questions about the illness. If Céline had appeared at the Grammy Awards right after the media hysteria, the question "is she sick or not" would have been in the spotlight. Another option was chosen: in the announcement of the documentary, we received the message: "You'll find out all about the illness in the documentary; now I'm trying to come back," and the performance at the Grammys was an illustration of that effort. I think they played it wisely.

As for the Grammys, French tabloids claim that Céline's arrival was uncertain until the end, and that a video was even recorded in case it proved impossible. Of course, they don't give a source and may be making things up, as tabloids do.

I might be reading into this too much but...

Celine used the Courage hairstyle/wig for this Grammy appearance. I think that this means that a new era is yet to come. My guess is that we will get the documentary at some point within the next 3 months. It will hopefully shut down most rumours and give a controlled impression of what has happened. Once that is said and done, I think Celine will move onto the next chapter of her career that will presumably involve a new French album... and a new hairstyle. Posted Image

Not Céline related other than the Eurovision connection, but  BBC has commissioned a doc about ABBA for the 50th anniversary of their Eurovision win:
https://variety.com/...ion-1235910496/

Separately, Sony released their earnings today. They normally list key projects upcoming in the next quarter so I looked up the release to see if there’s anything Céline-related, and nada. (Of course this is just the top 5 major releases, so doesn’t mean there’s nothing coming. And the doc is technically an Amazon release.)

Yes it does seem like she only goes out to events EVERY 3 MONTHS lol. I am guessing maybe she is trying to pace herself? Like maybe spacing out the events she is attending so that she DOES NOT OVERDUE IT & HURT HERSELF trying to do more than her body can handle right now? Again we really don't know at this point, especially we don't know what kind of treatments/therapies she has been doing.

Hmmm with the "current pattern" of things, we might not see her again until sometime in MAY I guess lol. Though I DO HOPE her dumb*as "Team" will NOT STAY SILENT for the next few months until her next appearances, like they did from November after her 2 previous appearances, until the end of January when they announced the Documentary, then the Grammys appearance earlier this month. Even if she is not performing, her team CAN still post more things from time to time & try to use some creativity when it comes to Celine & celebrating her career & legacy! Heck if the social media pages of DECEASED CELEBRITIES can still be active & make posts on a regular basis, so can Team Celine, as she is still currently living!

There’s a new special / doc about Celine due to air on France 3 on March 8: https://x.com/medias...lbG-qOHJebY8elA

(To be clear, nothing to do with this doc. Probably another one like La Silence de Céline.)

There's a new special / doc about Celine due to air on France 3 on March 8: https://x.com/medias...lbG-qOHJebY8elA

(To be clear, nothing to do with this doc. Probably another one like La Silence de Céline.)

Judging from the announcement, this is to be another career retrospective, starting with "a humble family with fourteen children." The documentary is to include testimonials from Fabienne Thibeault, Garou, Robert Charlebois, Patrick Bruel, Fabrice Luchini and Louane, so rather expect the usual.

I don't call that "the usual" when you have such artists being interviewed.    Why Fabrice Luchini of all people?   Interesting.  I absolutely love Louane.

I would be more curious to know what Luchini would have to say about L.-F. Céline, whom he played, than about Céline D. ;) I suspect, that he will appear in the documentary in the occasion of Goldman, with whom they know and like each other. Well, we'll see.

and first time Fabienne Thibeault is saying something in relation to Celine

Fabienne Thibeault spoke out about Céline in January of this year, on the Chez Jordan de Luxe program. She suggested that Celine might be suffering from the same neuromuscular disease that FT's father died of, after all they share common ancestors. The statement circulated the French media (fortunately, probably except for one phenotype, SPS is not a neurodegenerative disease):

“My father had a degenerative disease of the neuromuscular system that is quite common in my region. It comes from our Norman ancestors. And maybe that's what Céline Dion suffers from too, somewhere. Because I'm related to Céline Dion. We have common ancestors. But maybe it's not the same disease. They're degenerative, neuromuscular diseases, like ataxias and dystrophies. I knew her when she was smaller, younger. She's a lovely person. I have a lot of affection for her and a lot of pain. Now she lives in Las Vegas, but I think of her often. It's a strange disease, neuromuscular. For my father, there was nothing to be done, in his case, but for Céline, I hope there was...”

Slightly off topic….

Zendaya to serve as co-chair for this years MET gala….   https://x.com/popbas...CELI5_tgOe-P7Mw

I’m beginning to wonder if this documentary will release around May and maybe Celine will attend the gala this year if she’s able too. We know she gets a LOT of press with this event… this could be a very wise move to do some NYC promotion around that time. Ofc, all speculation but my radar is going off on this possibility.

It would've been a brilliant move to release her documentary February 5th, the day after her surprise Grammy appearance. That would've been the best case scenario. But I suppose they weren't 100% sure that Celine was going to be presenting until it all happened. And maybe there is hope she will be well enough for promo.

Something thats maybe indirectly related to this topic but i wanted to share my observations of marketing strategy over the past few years

When René was in charge - Promo, Promo, Interview, Documentary, etc. Basically, penetrate all media with all news Céline.

Celine & Team in Charge - Secretive, create mystery, speculation, then reveal or surprise. Build anticipation with earned vs paid/traditional media.

I think the team actively doesn't try to do promo, especially after the SPS diagnosis partially because of her condition but also because they are learning maybe that bigger anticipation can drive bigger viewership & sales. Very similar to the Beyonce way of suddenly dropping albums, doing no promo. etc.
When you become an icon, you need to do more of the unexpected to drive greater interest, especially in the age of Tiktok, Reels & Shorts. Its more important that the social channels and influencers amplify your name with something interesting.

We'll probably hear more when the actual release date of the Doc comes, and i'm sure we'll get some interesting surprise to go with it. Maybe a surprise appearance in New York/concert before the premiere? Posted Image
