An Assistant Editor for this project has it listed on her LinkedIn as “Céline de Charlemagne”, a title I personally like much better.

Anyway, I just watched Irene’s last film, Trees and Other Entanglements, and while I really enjoyed it, I’m really curious to see how Irene’s particular style of filmmaking will translate to a celebrity bio. It’s just not something she’s tackled in the past, so it’s really hard to figure out what it might be like. Will she use animation? Make it personal to her in some way? So many of her films do just that, and it works really well.
I think this title will work in Canada, but global I think it's not really clear what this is about.

Without a subtitle containing the name, however, it would be a marketing risk...

I wonder if such a title would foreshadow any deeper exploration of Céline's Francophone roots? (By the way, I'm curious if someone will ever elaborate on the status of "White Niggers of America", Quebecers and Acadians, in the context of Céline's biography? Carl Wilson once touched on this topic, but this issue has more political potential. However, it is perhaps more suitable for a sociological study than a film biopic.)

In the fall, on the occasion of my recent stay in Quebec, I visited Charlemagne for the first time. And well, there aren't many traces of her there - except for a dusty plaque where the family home stood, a mediocre-looking boulevard bearing her name, and a family grave in the tiny St-Simon and Jude cemetery. And the "Céline" pizzeria...

Since the announcement of the director's name, I have not been able to guess the key used in choosing exactly Irene Taylor. Did Céline have any influence on this choice? The short documentary "One Last Hug" may have been of interest to her because of its theme of childhood bereavement? I can't, for the moment, juxtapose in my mind Taylor's rather austere aesthetics with Céline's glamour/camp stage performances. Perhaps, fulfilling a Sony Music commission, Taylor decided to try something new, more commercial and "grand public"? Did she follow the well-liked path of family stories? I am extremely curious about her idea and choice, although I fear that the film will not meet the expectations of a large part of the fan community, because it will turn out, for example, too modest in the means used and not enough BIG ;)

Hmmm that is very interesting, I have never heard about that, Celine saying that she was asked to change her name to a "stage name" lol... Thank the heavens she did not do that, as sometimes "stage names" can be ridicolous, look at some of the rappers names out there, yikes! I like the name Celine Dion!

May I ask, where is this news of a documentary coming from? Is it that Netflix documentary rumor from a few years ago that was going around social media? (I don't know where it started from, but it had its rounds for a while on social media spreading like wildfire with the numerous fan accounts, but at some point it has disappeared since then lol.) Is there any truth to this documentary, or is it just another Celine rumor just like the others?

I have tried to look up some info about it, but so far I have only pulled up information about her previous documentaries from years ago, "Through The Eyes Of The World" & "3 Boys & A New Show" are the only 2 documentaries that I have found info on lol... So can you please post a link about this documentary if it's real? I really hope this is real, the never ending from Celine has been torture for us fans!

Thank you so much... But the thing is, that post was from about 2 & a half years ago, & I have not found any new info about this documentary? Is it really happening? (Even though Celine is no longer active in the entertainment business & has not been for a few years now.) Because again searching on Google about a "Celine Dion Documentary", I keep pulling up info about her older documentaries from over 10-15 years ago. Is the name of it, "I am: Celine Dion" the actual title? Is there a release date of it? I really hope this is true, as everything else about Celine has been rumors so far (especially about her coming back to performing & recording new albums, those have been rumors going on non-stop for 3 years now & we have nothing but silence from Celine & her Team, & we only had 2 small appearances from her in the entire year of 2023!) I know everybody is hoping for a comeback, but judging by the complete silence from Celine's social media pages during the past few months, it looks more & more unlikely of any comeback. :( :(

Just read that a 4 part documentary about Bon Jovi will be released in April on Hulu/Disney+.

That makes me wish Céline's documentary is also a series of a few episodes. There is so much to tell about her personal life, career and especially the last few years (death of René, her illness), that it would be a shame if it's all jammed into a 90 mins documentary.

A 4 series documentary would be so nice.
That way you can easily divide her whole career into episodes of at least 60 minutes each. And hopefully go into the depth of it all.

I'm still a bit skeptical that it will be like the documentaries we saw in the 90s.
Everything jammed into the 60/90 minutes and the same subjects that are being discussed.

This is also me not getting disappointed in the end.
So let's cross fingers it will at least contain more episodes and that they are at least 60 minutes each. :giggle:

Yeah exactly! If it's a documentary about her whole life, 4 episodes should be a must:

1. The early years , la p'tite québecoise age 1968 - 1989
2. International breakthrough, the diva age 1990 - 2002
3. Groundbreaking entertainment, the legend age 2003 - 2021
4. Life challenges, the uncertain age 2015 (death René) - now.

Probably the best way to avoid the disappointment of an "insufficiently brilliant" document is to not immediately, by design, treat it as the only / final / ultime document about her that can be produced in the next decade.

Let's allow this original director to take shortcuts and offer her own authorial vision - and just wish for more films; by the way, the less censored and "official" the better ;)

The issue has perhaps a deeper context, as can be seen from the books: many fans declare that one official and canonical biography is enough for them, and that others should not even be created. I do not share this opinion - people always argue about outstanding cultural figures, and real legends stir up controversy. "The official version" of Céline's biography has so far tended to discourage the most interesting creators, and it's hardly surprising; let's hope that this rosy-cheeked frosted story is behind us.

This is exactly what I would like too BUT can you see the GP watching the first part ? They’d think it’s boring as hell, all this French stuff. And they would not necessarily come back for the other parts. I love me Celine all eras but doubt her early years would bring many viewers.

Pardon, boring as hell? Her first success in Quebec and France (D'Amour Or D'Amitie, Mon Ami M'A Quittee), the Sony deal/her first record with Sony (Incognito), Grand Prix 1988 and of course her secret relationship with Rene.
I think it will be interesting to see new material about the 80s era.

Like I said.... " BORING AS HELL TO THE GP". French market might eat it, but that's a little weak to do an entire first hour on that for the international fans IN MY OPINION.

First hour should cover everything up until The Colour Of My Love. But i'm down for any new footage of young Celine

I can see where you are coming from but it depends how they present her early career.  It’s actually Interesting how her career started and whilst she was only releasing French music back then, she was building the English career behind the scenes learning English, having vocal lessons to preserve her voice, finding her style, Eurovision, getting a record deal in English, all of which took place through the 80’s, as well as releasing music in French.

We know that the film was announced in September 2021, shortly before the decisive health crisis that, after many months, led to the diagnosis we know. Over the course of 2022, Irene Taylor and her crew were seen in Vegas; shooting for the film was officially completed on 23.12.2023. All indications are that the documentary will take into account the current situation.
I recall maybe one IG story from someone at Vermillion in Vegas - was there more? It seems to me they were very good about keeping it all strictly under wraps.
Where did you come across the completion date?

I suspect this might premiere at one of the upcoming film festivals. For Sony’s Cindi Lauper and Carlos Santana docs, it was Tribeca. Their Lil Nas X doc just premiered at Sundance. Either Cannes or Toronto would make the most sense for Céline, though the latter is not until the fall so a long wait still.

I think Irene's team was seen in Vegas twice, but I am not able to find the source and I could be wrong. It's a fact that everything was done very discreetly.
The date of the status change to post-production comes from here:

There are also quite a few documentary film festivals in the first half of the year, but Sony will probably target an event with higher visibility...

I think Irene's team was seen in Vegas twice, but I am not able to find the source and I could be wrong. It's a fact that everything was done very discreetly.
The date of the status change to post-production comes from here:
https://www.movieins...ne-dion/updates

Honestly, everything around her in recent years has been done very discreetly. Unnervingly so. Aren't we all armed with smartphones at all times?! How has nothing leaked?? Nothing beyond a dentist visit with the kids. Once. In 4 years.

I kid, I kid. This is a good thing. She deserves her privacy. And honestly, it tells me she surrounds herself with good people. The kind that won't blab to the tabloids or post on socials for clout. I respect that.
Other than Claudette that is... but as someone pointed out, she's a minor Quebecois celebrity in her own right and has her own work to promote, plus she's the face of Fondation Maman Dion, so it's her job to speak out on behalf of the family in a way, and it's obvious she'll be asked about Celine. All in all, she has said very little. Perhaps because she knows very little. Or perhaps she's actually holding back.

All in all, she has said very little. Perhaps because she knows very little. Or perhaps she's actually holding back.

I think similarly. Everyone who has had contact with her in the past - from Bombardier to Drucker - has complained in recent years that Céline isolates herself, that she lives like a hermit in Henderson. That was even the theme of Pieau and Tropéa's book, with lengthy confessions from Scott Roeben, among others, about how sinlessly Céline lives in the City of Sin, how there are no rumors about her and how she is respected for it. But her time running around the clubs making up for her youth was short, and it seems that such isolation is natural for her. Fortunately, she has really discreet people by her side. An excerpt from the aforementioned book, which pleased me at the time: "Sylvie Beauregard, her right-hand woman, the one who knows her better than she knows herself, tells us of her sister Claudette: "She knows her so well that she can even anticipate all her answers." Note: When contacted, she refused to talk to us.”

As for Claudette, she has always lived in her sister's shadow, and there isn't an interview where she isn't asked about Céline - which, all in all, as someone who is on a smaller scale a star herself, she tolerates quite well and loyally. Between 2021 and 2022, she later admitted, the two had no contact with each other at all, so she made it up to the media that "everything is fine," because she is a born optimist. She learned about the diagnosis, as we all do, from the media - already that says a lot about family relationships. But for the past few months, Claudette has no longer been mindlessly chattering that her sister "is smart, has the best doctors, works hard and didn't deserve to be sick, and therefore she will surely recover," instead there has been anxiety and confessions such as "We are praying for a miracle," "There's not much we can do to support her and relieve her pain," and "She has no muscle control" (this last announcement came shortly after Céline's public appearance, as if to tone down the media enthusiasm). In an interview in the fall of 2023, she stressed that she always consults "what she can say" - and on this point I am inclined to believe her.

BTW, I read Claudette's autobiography, "La sœur de" ("The sister of”). It is like Claudette: chaotic, full of chatter and to be quickly forgotten. The most memorable sentence was: "Céline is the youngest of us, but I often have the impression that she is the oldest."

Maybe we got to accept the fact that Céline in private is a very boring person and nothing like her 'stage persona'. :giggle:

I do find it a shame for her, that it doesn't seem like she goes out much to enjoy life. I don't know if that's because she doesn't want to be recognized, or if it's because she just doesn't want to. In a way I can imagine that if you're on the go from age 12 to 52 that you're happy to have some peace and quiet. But I'd love for her to explore the world too, without having to rush from show to show. The only times she ever really did that was during the TCWT and when she was with Pepe in 2016-2017... but then she was still rushing from show to show.

Errata: translating from careless French to English, the automatic translator apparently decided to please Claudette ;) The quoted sentence from Pieau and Tropéa's book should read:

"...Sylvie Beauregard, her right-hand woman, the one who knows her better than she knows herself, as her sister Claudette tells us: "She knows her so well that she can even anticipate all her answers." Note: When contacted, she refused to talk to us.” (i.e. it is C. who is talking about S., because S. refused to speak); originally “„Sylvie Beauregard, son bras droit, celle qui la connaît mieux qu’elle-même, [comme] nous raconte sa sœur Claudette : « Elle la connaît tellement bien qu’elle peut même anticiper toutes ses réponses. » Notice : Contactée, elle a refusé de nous parler”.

Yeah, I always found that sad. I seem to recall around the time she went with Pepe to some show, she said something like "I've never been to a ballet/ musical/ opera", which I found wild because to me it's such a basic thing I've been doing since early childhood. And as an artist, wouldn't you crave it? But I guess if you've been working non-stop from such an early age, and recognized wherever you go, it's just hard.
Though maybe it's just that people respect her privacy when she does go out. For instance we know she'd regularly ski in Big Sky, Montana, and I don't think any photos surfaced from there more than once. Or she'd go to RC's hockey games, and nobody there would post her pictures to socials. Only way you'd know is if you followed the team photographer, zoomed in on his hundreds of game pictures, and you could make out Celine in some of them in the background.

Whatever happens, I hope she's well enough to enjoy her life and the fruits of her labour. Experience things she never had a chance to given her work schedule. She's got her kids now but when they leave home in a few years... what's it going to be like for her?

I don't think she's a bore ;) just a person prone to extremes and exaggeration in everything she does: if activity, it's murderous, if a tour, it's the longest, if isolation, it's complete. But it is true that her ignorance of many aspects of life goes further than handling an ATM machine or tickets on the subway.

This is one of the reasons why - regardless of respect/sympathy for Thérèse and René - twelve-year-old children should not be sent to work. Neither in the mines nor in the music industry.

Tell that to Michael Jackson's and Britney Spears's parents...
