Not necessarily, but I see her doing in English what she has been doing in French for a long time, or as has been said about her work with JJG, how he taught her to "dechanter" (literally, "unsing"). The French work has always been more subtle, more connected to the lyrics than vocal gymnastics, and that's what I hope / expect to see more of. She's kind of laying the groundwork for that in the doc, and I for one am all for it. I personally was never really there for the big notes, and I don't think that many of us were (though she seems to have believed that to be the case.. hopefully she now knows that's not necessarily the case).

There are still big notes in the French stuff maybe not as many. And did she think we needed the big notes or she just feels that need to do them as for her English is just "more"?

Seeing in the interviews and way she talks I kind of feel she wants to get back to being able to do the big notes. Not saying she won't do less of it but I feel she wants to be able to hit them again to show that SPS has not taken anything from her.

Agree at times she didn't need the note to be as big as she did them. Would love more of like what got with One Heart and the new songs that were on the All The Way album. But ultimately just want her to be happy whether I like what she does next or not, she has already given me so many amazing songs to listen to.

My only worries are that because her English material has a tendency not be as well written as her French material.  sometimes I feel as if the high notes/long notes are to compensate for the lack of song quality. So I think what needs to happen is they  that they really need to focus on the English song quality… if Celine isn’t ready to finally write her truth in her music now, I don’t think it’ll ever happen. So I hope she sits down and writes her feelings out.

Yes, I really, really would love for her to team up with a single quality songwriter she can connect with, who can help her translate her thoughts into lyrics. And I think we've all said this before in some capacity - like an English JJG.

I've mentioned this previously so at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I keep thinking of how Elvis Costello (a "songwriters' songwriter", as he's often called) did exactly that for Diana Krall (then his fiance, now wife) on Girl in the Other Room. She was always "just" an interpreter of standards, but on that record he took her journals and helped turn them into lyrics and the result was, I think at least, her strongest album ever (even though she always claimed she's not a songwriter).

Celine clearly found a great partner in JJG. She found a great partner in Irene for this doc. Now I hope she finds a great English songwriting partner because I'm convinced she's got no shortage of ideas & songs in her head that just need some help and a conduit to guide them out into the world.

I wonder though as she is one to not like to look back or focus on the bad she may not want to go down that road of reliving what she went through. Her don't question life just live it mentality.

It will be interesting to see what she will do next. Will it be happy stuff to celebrate doing better or stuff that covers what her journey has been.

And if we think we’ve seen Celine sing with emotion English before, imagine IF she’s co-writing her own emotions. I really wish this is the route they go now. It’s the perfect opportunity for a magnitude of reasons.

I remember in one interview she gave that the twins played so that might be more who is playing or maybe none does anymore. I can see her playing it but not all the time.

Yeah, that’s my take. I seem to recall Linda’s husband played? So maybe he’s the one who uses it most. And I hope she does fool around on it every now and then.

If this documentary is successful, I believe they will make part 2, showing her recovering and having the strength to return to the stage.

Well, at this point I think it's fair to say it IS successful, both commercially and critically, but I doubt it would be a part II with Irene. That said, there's definitely appetite to follow her along on that journey, as a mini-series type production even.

I agree. Irene Taylor also served her purpose; and she did it masterfully,
However if we got a docuseries or a part 2 of some kind that addresses her voice and music and preparing for a stage return, it would be better to have someone who is somewhat of a fan at the helm.

As long as does not try and sound like Eilish no offense but I can not understand a word she says when she sings. But I wonder if she wants to go down the darker road or more upbeat.

I think she's a naturally optimistic person so would probably lean in the direction of positivity and hope. She obviously has moments of melancholy, and clearly the time this doc was made was one such period, but as Irene said in some interviews, "her baseline state is joyful".

Definitely! The piano was also there in the living room when Oprah visited them in 2003.

And when we talk about a new album, as long as she sounds like herself I'm all for it. Not copying the demo versions, or try the new hip vocal sounds.

As for lyrics, I understand that the industry has changed a lot and that songs needs to be short and catchy for tiktok, streaming and all. But I wouldn't mind longer songs with decent build up and not just verse chorus and repeat.

Also wouldn't mind different genres, I LOVED her freestyle of Love Again in the docu.

Speaking of JJG, we know that he had said in the past that he and Céline had exhausted all possible themes to work with musically. Do we think that, with her health battle and all the emotions associated with it, he could find new inspiration?

I was just wondering if there are some people on here who watched the documentary with non-fans... What did those people think of the doc or of Celine? What was their reaction? Were some of them more curious about her music? Etc... Maybe some of you already shared that but there were so many things to read lately that I didn't really come across those kinds of comments... Thank you anyway for those who want to share...

Though I don't discount some of his knowledge, his writing still reeks of "outsider intellectual journalist" who thinks he's got her figured out by writing a book that is critically praised because people don't know any better, but actually isn't quite tuned in properly to the little things that has made Celine, Céline.

"I can’t imagine having been sanctioned under René: She invited a camera crew into her home."  - I'm sorry you didn't get to see her 3-5 other documentary & TV specials where you literally go inside her home.... removing semantics, she literally had a film crew follow her around for months at a time, twice!

She's always said what's on her mind, and done things she wanted to do, but when anything cool or interesting she does gets ignored (anything French, dance hits, etc) all of a sudden, the only thing she is good for is ballads and being a stuffy "classic" singer with no personality.

Look, maybe his style is to write in the voice of "the Gen-X" but I think he needs to refine his research from an intellectual observation, into exploring more vicerally her diverse work and style as a fan.

There was another reaction saying the same thing about Rene… saying Celine probably shared more since he’s no longer here… I think most people don’t understand that Rene was the true “open book”.
