I'm so sorry! I understand the shock and pain.  I can tell you loved him very much and did everything you could. This is the worst day as a pet parent.

Thank you! Yes, I'm sure you empathise and understand. It's never easy. At least he is no longer suffering. I didn't have tickets for opening night, but not sure I could go to the opening night feeling this crap.

Thank you so much. Actually, it did not go very well. We had to put him down today :( I am still in a bit of shock.

I am so sorry! I can’t imagine having to let my boy, Dion go. I will hug him a little tighter tonight.

Thank you. It sounds silly, but pets can teach you about life. Yes, that's the positive thing is to remind folks to hug their loved ones tighter. Is Dion your kitty or your pup? The name is very cute and perfect of course.

He’s my pup. My boyfriend and I rescued him from North Shore Animal League in September 2020. He’s such a love bug. And a spoiled brat lol.

Not celine related.

But I see that Janet Jackson is releasing a documentary on Lifetime and A&E in January making it a 2 night special.

Lots of special guests like Mariah.
It says it was 5 years in the making. Here's hoping Celine's documentary won't take that long, but on the other hand 5 years of following and creating something special

A good documentary takes years to make. To follow Celine's life. Otherwise it's just gonna be them filming her in her house talking about stuff, and I want this to be more special than that personally.

(ps tour documentaries are a different thing)

I spent some time over the holidays watching Irene Taylor Brodsky's previous work - most of which is available on Crave in Canada and HBO Max in the US, some are on YouTube.  Having now seen most of her films, at least those which are publicly available, I'm curious to see how she's going to approach the Celine project.

Much of her work has been personal (about her parents, or her son) , or in some way drawing on personal experience (like the time she spent in Nepal). Clearly, much of it concerned with the senses (given her personal experience with deafness in the family, and Open Your Eyes is about blindness).  Beware of Slenderman is an entirely different can of fish, and I remember watching it several years back as it made quite a lot of waves at the time, probably because of the true crime aspect. Still, it's not a sensationalist treatment, but more of a study of the reasons underlying what happened (it's the story of the two 12-year-old girls who stabbed their best friend to appease a fictional character who they thought was real). It's really the only project she's done that's concerned with people in the public eye, so a biographical doc about a pop star is going to be, hopefully, an interesting new creative challenge.
Her style is largely observational in nature; very cinéma vérité, though the more personal docs involve the use of narration (herself).

I enjoyed everything I watched from her, and would definitely recommend if you're a fan of documentary filmmaking.

The Celine doc will clearly be something quite different for her, and I'm curious to see what she's going to do with it.

And if Celine is not well enough to rehearse, hopefully she is at least well enough to spend some quality time on this project. Disconnecting in the way she has in this past year should have afforded her the distance to really reflect and take stock of her life (and trawl through the archives). Here's hoping it's not all stalled like the tour or the residency, or worse yet, dead... noting it's not on Irene's IMDB page: https://www.imdb.com/name/nm2480339/

Great writeup, thanks. I'd rather she spend years working on it, but that is not always practical of course. I wonder if Celine hand selected her, I could see Celine doing such a thing.

Who would want a compilation album when there are now countless playlists on various platforms!
Besides, don't we already have twenty or so of these compilation albums? LOL

Let me tell a little story here. I know this is completely unrelated and it's not about Céline Dion at all, but it is about compilations.

There was a group I used to obsess over, and they were really popular at the time. Their record label released a Greatest Hits compilation with three new songs to highlight a new member who had just joined. Sidenote: she could reeeeeeally sing her tail off too! And despite my having all of their previous albums by that point, I still wanted this one because of the new songs. Downloading music was not a part of my life yet. I got it for my birthday. Then I went to a residential school, where my roommate infamously stole it from me. I got it back.

Anyway, so then this group started getting less popular. You started to hear less of their music on the radio, even though they were still making albums and still going on long, grueling tours, even while both their female singers were pregnant at the same time! They went through a couple more member changes, and despite having virtually no #1 hits in the next few years, where everything they touched used to turn to gold, a second Best Of compilation was released, this time only with one new song, again showcasing their new singer, a guy who could also reeeeeally sing. And yes, I went out and bought it too. There were a few songs on this album that had been released since the last project of its kind, and yes, I had the original albums with those songs too. And the songs were in a different order, creating a different experience for the listener, another excuse to buy this "new" compilation, even though I already had all the other albums. Talk about being a fanatic!

And then for some reason, only three years later, even though they were no longer under contract with their original label by this time, yet another Greatest Hits collection was released. In the meantime, only one new album was released, on a new label, and IMO it wasn't really even that good after the first few listens. There was virtually no radio play of any singles, at least where I was. There was all this hype about it; it was even claimed that there was another #1 hit! But only three years later, a new Greatest Hits! The latest compilation had no new material, except for a couple older songs that weren't on either of the two prior collections, but no new original songs to speak of. And by this point, I was bored and decided not to buy this one. It was just a rehash of everything I already had. Some of the songs I had in three or four different places. The press release even admitted that more than half of the album consisted of the group's old standards that were already on the other compilations.

Finally, last year they released a proper new album of all new songs, and although I wasn't nearly as crazy about them as I once was, I downloaded the new album on Amazon.

So why did I tell that story? A compilation album to accompany the documentary might be a good marketing move. However, 1) I don't think her biggest, most loyal fans would buy it because most of them already have all the songs elsewhere, except the ones who are collectors and just want to get their hands on everything that has Céline Dion's name on it. And 2) all the songs, or most of them, that would probably compile this album are already available to listen to on all the streaming services.

Would I buy it? Probably not, unless it had special versions of songs, like remixes, instrumentals, radio edits, etc. I finally got "All The Way" last year because I wanted it when I was ten years old but never had the chance to get it. And that one is an exception because it had so many new songs for a Greatest Hits album. It's almost like a half-and-half, half Greatest Hits, half new album. And it has radio edits of the longer songs. I used to never like radio edits where they cut the song short, or the radio version had a different sound than what was heard on the album. But this has changed my mind.

Of course, there is the previous argument I made about different song order giving you a different experience. But what if you don't want to listen to a whole album all the way through? What if you want to put it on shuffle? Or mix it in with all your other digitized music?

Lastly, I'll say something about the "On ne change pas" collection. That is, IMO, actually a great compiling of some of her best, or at least biggest, French material from the 1980's and 1990's together.

How about this idea?

Céline Dion: The Colour Of My Life

Anybody else think that's brilliant? Or am I just being narcissistic by thinking it's brilliant? Sorry, I can't help it! I like it.

Was nice to see CODA win at the Oscars yesterday.
Perhaps it draws some more attention to Irene’s work, since she’s a CODA and has made two films on the subject. (That’s assuming she’s still attached since it’s nowhere to be found on her IMDB.)

In related news, poor Diane Warren. She looked like someone died when that award was announced… will she ever get one?

She needs to write a James Bond theme, I think every bond film original song has won a Oscar, the Last 3 for sure.

No, no reason. It’s just gone completely quiet on the doc front. But I suppose that’s entirely normal for film projects and Irene doesn’t seem to be the kind of person who’s active on social media and may simply not have gotten around to updating her IMDB.

No, no reason. It's just gone completely quiet on the doc front. But I suppose that's entirely normal for film projects and Irene doesn't seem to be the kind of person who's active on social media and may simply not have gotten around to updating her IMDB.

in my opinion, it will be a while before it is released. Maybe 2023 or 2024? I don't mind if it even takes longer to really work on it and capture a good chunk of her life, especially with the wild next few years that await us (hopefully peaceful and more pandemic-free)

She needs to write a James Bond theme, I think every bond film original song has won a Oscar, the Last 3 for sure.

And then Céline can FINALLY have her own Bond theme!! win/win! :D

So I've been reading all these Aline reviews recently, partially to see what critics think of the film but really more to see how they view Celine now that they've been forced to evaluate her life and career through the prism of Aline. And the theme that seemed to emerge was that even those reviews that panned the film seemed to be of the opinion that it didn't do Celine justice, that she deserves better, that the audience deserves a deeper dive into who she is beyond the "kooky auntie" persona with an outsized talent, something more than a fictional recreation of YouTube clips.

There seems to be a pretty unanimous reverence for her talent and hard work, even among those who don't care for her music, and a realization that even though she spent so much of her life in front of cameras and hamming it up for the audience, she's very much an enigma that people are genuinely curious about. And they're looking for a profile that's deeper examination than just checking off major milestones of her life and career. What drives someone who was so laser-focused since childhood, and who lived such a sheltered life while going from obscurity to opulence. With the benefit of time and distance, it seems there's a realization that she's a woman with agency not some push over who was just molded into stardom.

I hope this doc digs deep enough to give us some of those insights because there really seems to be an interest there beyond just the core fanbase. I hope these last 2 years away from the spotlight gave her a chance to step back and reevaluate her legacy and where she'd like to take it from here, and that she feels comfortable enough with Irene to really open up. It's a tall order because despite all the "I'm an open book" claims, she's actually a person who's quite protective of her inner world. Even Denise Bombardier wasn't able to get very deep under the hood after following her for year. I hope Irene manages to get more out of her to give this project substance.

Did TC posted something about this documentary on instagram or was it a story? Cause I can't see any posts about it
