Lara never fails to copy Celine. :o
And I think this is not a smart move on her part... mainly in Quebec.

Yes, and after a while it begins to look less like adoration, and more like desperation. After a while, it's just a little too much.
And the thing is, she doesn't need to do it. She's very talented and capable in her own right.

Well, the interesting thing about this one, versus other COVID shows so far, is it’s not people singing through Skype from their basement. They actually filmed in studio. With social distancing precautions.

these "from home" videos were really interesting to watch. It's interesting to see how these stars live and how their home studios look like, especially Celines! :D

To me, she doesn't seem sincere about her love for Celine. She does it to expand her fan base... :giggle:

I find her sincere, I mean you don't sing Courage in a stairwell unless you're sincere...

Question for those who know her last two French albums really well. Which songs off of SA or PAMP would fit such an occasion as this?

Isn’t PAMP about dads?

and

Isn’t SA means “without waiting”? For a vaccine?

I think “Courage” & “SSD” would fit for this occasion

I was clearly referring to those entire albums, not the songs themselves.

PAMP is not an album. It’s part of SA. So, i thought you’re only referring for a song

So...

For SA

- UCQS
- Le Miracle
- JNPBD

For EUS

- THV
- LYAC
- ALPHB

Well, “Une chance qu’on s’a” is the obvious choice.

Other options could be:

- Encore un soir
- Ma force
- Je nous veux
- Attendre
- Ne me quitte pas
- L’étoile

I really recommend you listen to these albums more. They’re amazing! Better than her English work.

Thanks Celine RO ^^

I gave them a good listen a few years back, but I haven't kept up with them. Definitely need to revisit. I remember some of my favorites like EUS, Attendre, and NMQP. But yes, as I am not too good in French I wouldn't know if their themes and lyrics fit the occasion of such a tribute.

I know it's bit off topic, but somehow still related :-D

Like Céline and René, "Une chance qu'on s'a" (the duet) has become kind of the song of our couple, for my husband and I.
Beautiful lyrics.

 ^_^

And from ADISQ 1998 (already !)

So she will only have a sentence in a the final song. She really has no interest and pleasure at all to take another look at her own repertoire, acoustic version, or make a special duet. This is so sad, but like really really sad 😞

I’m all positive for the new Celine and still think that she is serving us way more artistry than under René, the part about exploring/revisiting her own songs is also better as it was non existent and let s say almost forbidden, but when she has such occasions I can’t. That really makes me sad.

Do we know what was actually asked of her?  Maybe they only asked for her to contribute a few words and be part of the final song.

I don't think we should be disappointed. On the contrary, we should be happy she is being asked to take part in these types of shows.

But Del who cares ? I mean we are leaving an historic period. She could have said let me do this song with a piano or a guitare. I mean.... that s what others will do. So easy to do even with social distancing and with the minimum of technology.

There are 80 artists scheduled for the show. She can't be making demands.  Each and every artist making an appearance on that show deserves their moment.  I get that we want her to sing at every event but we can't expect that she will.

Not to bring up René again, but he was probably the mastermind behind getting her booked as the headliner for a lot of these events. He was great at promoting her...

Céline has always been more humble about her talent. Perhaps in his absence, she would rather avoid the stress and let other people have their time in the spotlight. Just a thought.

I agree. I remember Céline saying that in 2014, when she sang with Francis Cabrel, René asked him to write a song for Céline’s ‘Encore un soir’ album. She said that she would never have dared ask him but René “had no problem doing it”.

Like come on. Other artist would have to fight for having their moment. Not her. A lot of Other artist are singing by their own bow. And you know what ? Even Celine Dion songs. . And I mean I’m not unveiling any mystery here. She is not envolved in creating moments especially with her own musics. It is like that since day 1.

Piano and guitar? Many of the performances were recorded in a TV studio (with social distances). Maybe having Celine from her home for an entire song might not have fit with the rest of the show? Before complaining let's see what it looks like...

Well, I would say it depends.

For the Aretha tribute, she pushed for singing "A Change Is Gonna Come" whereas proposed to sing something else. Because she felt it was the right song and despite, as the sole white woman on the show, she could have been subject to critics (ie "not understanding the hardship of being black and the civil rights movement"), which was a bit the case (there were some critics), but she delivered all the intended emotions and succeeded (her performance was mostly positively viewed).

But indeed, I believe she would not push if she is not asked. Why? I suppose from a career point of view, she has never been in the position to request for something/the commercial placement, René was doing the job, and she was doing her part: the performance, as an artist. Now that she is in the Legend seat, after 39 years (!) in the business, it's not like she is likely to change on this aspect. If she is asked for something, she will do her part, if not, then that's fine for her as well. And she is mostly a giver than a taker and seems always grateful when asked, which shows more her moral values.

Totally agree! And I would say that's even more so in Quebec where she would rather give exposure to other artists who actually need it. She doesn't seem to realize that people REALLY WANT to hear her in moments like this.

Ho but I agree. She can creates magic she has a view, she has ideas, she can be creative. But not with her repertoire. Very rarely.
And yes René was the one pushing for the spotlight. It was his job. Not sure this Aretha tribute magic would have happened though.
