"Remember the misguided days of the late '90s and early 2000s, when Celine Dion was treated as little more than a punchline? It took us nearly twenty years to get on her level, to appreciate her ability to have fun and willingness to poke fun at herself, to collab with Deadpool, to cry when she's sad and dance like hell when she's having a good time. And she certainly seemed to be having a blast Saturday night when she was spotted at the third performance of Lady Gaga's Las Vegas residency."

20 something years ago, I remember seeing an article on esquire stating that Celine was the most unatrractive woman on earth...
Well, the rest in history...

Wow that was rude. But 20 years ago she still look pretty, until after LTAL era she looks old so fast, but I don't think she's ugly anyhow.

A Case of You or Dance Me to the End of Love should have won, if you asked me. But, well, I'll take MHWGO coming 2nd.

I saw this thread yesterday and I love that people are actively vying for the chance to write about Céline, and trying to one-up each other over how much they love her. Never would have happened 15 or 20 years ago.

Right?!
I love seeing the ever-growing list of volunteers. These are not the subversive, too-cool-for-school critics of yore.
And a lot of them are writers I read on a regular basis. Very cool crop.

Interesting to see them repost this nearly two years later - with this and the CBC content today, must be Celine Appreciation Week in Canada!
They reeeeally want her back at the Junos! LOL
I wouldn't be surprised if she made an appearance in a video montage for David Foster and/ or Corey Hart next weekend.

Her last show of this leg is on Saturday, so she could just hop right on the plane after the show like she did when she went to Paris.
Probably dreaming though 😊

I wish! Can't see it happening though; not this year.
BUT, when they do have her back, they should also recruit RC for Juno Cup!
For those who aren't familiar, it's an annual charity hockey game (because Canada!) that pits former NHLers and Olympians against Juno-nominated musicians. Raises money for MusiCounts.

I don't regularly listen to any radio, except for one show - CBC's Q, a daily culture / arts magazine.
Friday's episode had an interesting segment - opened and closed with Power of Love, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of it topping the US Billboard charts - and went on to discuss the current state of the love / power ballad.
They did a mini study of the charts in the mid-90s, and found that most (~70%) of #1 songs were love ballads. Then discussed why that's not the case anymore and whether pop culture is ready for the return of The Ballad. I recommend a listen - it's here, starting at about 5:25min: https://www.cbc.ca/r...ofile-1.5047578 (after the segment about Taylor Swift / celeb musician profiles).
I should note this show is hosted, produced, and generally overseen by millennials. And Q never used to talk about Celine - but hey certainly have started doing so, and openly loving her - in the last 2 years or so. So there ya go.

Different writer, but also from Macleans (which, if you're not familiar, is basically Canada's current affairs "magazine of record")-
(And timely, given wjd just mentioned in the BST thread how warmly Dolly was received at Glasto - and certainly at the Grammys, too!)

But like now all the 90's make a comeback in fashion and styling. It's time for the 90's music ballads.
So gimme that album Céline!

His last album, Transgressor, got some really good press from the likes of Pitchfork, Vice, NPR.
And he just released his new one, Stranger, which features a song titled... "Celine Dion".
Here's an NPR review of the album (you can also stream the entire thing on this page, or find it on Spotify here: https://open.spotify...K2XpakCg5h6ML13, and also available on iTunes, Amazon, Google, Deezer, etc.)
"But Stranger isn't all pep talks and soul-searching: In "Celine Dion," for example, Olaniran has a blast bragging about a flair for low-budget fashion while name-dropping the titular singer — not to mention Lady Gaga and Tilda Swinton. [...] It all adds up to a finely calibrated mix of purpose and playfulness, executed to stylish perfection.".
Another review here:
"Celine Dion” is an attitude-drenched rap over a dark electronic beat dedicated to some women that represent serious strength and sass."

I saw an instastory a few days ago of these people (mostly mid 20's) at a party singing loudly to TTWII.
Hopefully, the new album intensifies the Dionissance.

It'd be funny to have Celine sit down and react to some of the best meme's that use her songs. There are so many
