It makes no sense. James Gordan is very successful with his show. It was such a different and refreshing take on late night TV. Why? I just don't get it.

What's not to get?
It's a hugely successful concept, so makes perfect sense for the IP owner to replicate and sell the format when it's hot. Smart move by James Corden. Worked wonders for Simon Cowell. And Apple is trying to pull a Netflix and is probably paying through the nose for content that can anchor a new audience for their new streaming play.
And while I haven't read much about the terms of the deal, headlines tell me it's a spinoff, so doesn't preclude James' original segment from continuing in its current form.

I guess it was a fake rumour then as she was asked about it @ the press conference and she didn't know what it was ( well, she remembered after a while).
If she was going to appear on it, she would have known right from the start. ..
But we never know with Céline. ..

Yep! Not even Aretha could
My other half still doesn't forgive Céline for that. He thinks that she was a young upstart trying to upstage an aging diva past her prime. I always argue that she was showing her worth and that Aretha was hogging the mic!
Having said that I'd hate for an older Céline to be upstaged like that by some new talent in the future...

I see what you mean. It could appear that way. But I think that Aretha was the one trying to upstage Celine, not the other way around. I remember seeing an interview with Carole King saying that Aretha was the one 'in competition', not Celine. Plus, I think at that night it was Celine's 'induction' to the Divas, wasn't it? I might be way wrong here but I still got a kick out of Celine standing her ground

Where did you get the info that Celine is going to be in LA on Sept 9th?
If it's because of the Stand Up To Cancer event, I'm sure Celine will probably not be there in person. Celine's part will most likely be done through satellite or they might use one of her previously recorded concert from Montreal.
Edit: Whoops. I just realized after I wrote this that we're talking about Sept 9th. Celine's tour will be over by then, so it is possible that she might be at this event in person. my bad. It's late. My brain is a little slow right now. My head is still focused on August and the tour. LOL.

Doing this would be just as big - she must do it! Aldo is doing an exceptional job so far.
Céline Dion, music's greatest ever singer, the biggest-selling Canadian artist of all-time and most successful female live act ever - what's not to love?

When she is asked to sing or do something on the spot, without knowing what she's going to sing or do and also not knowing if it will sound good or bad in her mind. Celine is such a perfectionist. For her to sing random songs on the spot, that's asking alot for someone who puts so much pressure on themselves to sound at there best.
I totally get why Celine wouldn't like being put in those situations. The perfectionist in me totally feels for her. I hate when people ask me to sing on the spot, especially when I can't think of a song, so they pick a song for me and I have to sing it.

I actually think carpool is different. We all know what Celine is like when people around her are singing! She joins in. You can pick and choose what bits of the songs you sing along to, adlib, and have a laugh. Those other recent shows were different. She was having to impersonate other singers etc, and try to sound like them or be funny. I really felt for her. Not easy, especially if you don't know the song that well or in your first language. She did well, but I honestly think carpool could be so much better! And James Cordon is lovely.

You may dislike singing on the spot but Celine on the other hand......
