Yes, it’s true. It’s Dave Platel and Denis Savage managing Céline’s career right now. With all the experience they both have, you’d expect them to be pretty good. I don’t know what went wrong. Maybe it’s Céline’s involvement?

I don’t think so since I’m sure there’s an attorney/lawyer accompanying her to guide with these dealings IF she’s really involve with these... and for sure Dave and Denis were there since they are the “managers”.

Now, I think it happened during when Aldo was still her manager

Guys, would it be possible that the 2017 tour DVD was cancelled, because it was a project that Aldo initiated and then Aldo was fired before its release? Just a thought that crossed my mind recently after the news that she actually fired him.

But why did they bother filming it then? Aldo left in April 2017 and there’s footage in there from June/July.

maybe because of a deal that couldn’t be executed after Aldo left?

I'm like you guys too I don't get it. I'm still trying to understand why she bothered filming 4 WHOLE nights of the Vegas residency to do what? Put it in the archives? They can claim they don't have money or demand but yet have enough money to bring in equipment and film 4 separate nights?  How is it since 2016 every single time she has filmed a show except the 2018 mini tour have they failed to release it any format whether it be physical or digital.

Could there be technical reasons for it? Maybe Celine didn't like the final product?

But with the profitability of that show, I think it's not that big of an expense to be honest.

If I had to guess it's prob what you said. Same thing which happened with AND 2004 dvd. She prob didn't like the final product. I agree with you on that point too. I always thought that because they did make so much profit off that show for so many years ( not to mention the profit they could make in various ways if it were to be released) I wouldn't think that producing and releasing it would be that big of an issue though some fans suggested otherwise to me. They said something like "it's like the 2018 mini tours which we already saw on tv and dvds are dated and they will lose so much profit from producing it as it won't sell as well" My answer has always been so why go via dvd release it in some way or  stream it and in order to view it ask fans to pay before they receive the link. Donate some profit to charity too it's win win but as we said this weekend Celine's team and Sony just don't want to put in the effort.

For ex Queen during lockdown did a streaming party and put together some performances of their past tours and streamed it. It generated so much buzz that fans were begging for it on dvd. They listened and released it with a live CD bundle and it went straight to number one.

Streaming era gave us the idea that everything is easy, is just upload stuff online. But I don't think is the case. Music is business after all, an industry.

I still believe it's about budget. Yes, Celine shows were (are) very successful, but we don't know the contracts involved. If we discount everyone's paychecks, how much of Sony profits is actually used in reinvestment? Base on Courage album, I don't think it's much. She clearly expended a lot of money recording a 20 track album and then needed to make cheap videos because they were out of budget.

I think they filmed the shows using the budget available and then they tried to find
sponsorship or partnership to finance the release and couldn't find anyone willing to. How much work they put on finding, I don't know. Maybe there is where her poor management is failing the most.

Of course, this is just my guess. But it's good as any.

Could be I won't lie I don't know how all this works I am no expert. I am going off only what I have seen from other artists obviously so I too am guessing. I know this wasn't the most appropriate thread to bring it up but the reason I brought it up was because I began to understand what happened with Mini tour releases but the Vegas thing still was bothering me.

there are so many options. But it looks like Celine fans can beg as much as they want to, and neither Sony nor Celine will even listen, let alone care. It’s just truly sad.

Celine gets 1 million per show, as we saw during the legal documents released for this latest court case. How much does it cost to have a film crew shoot for 2 days (2 separate shows) and then post-editing and everything? 1 million max?

She most likely doesn’t give a damn about this small amount of money she generates with DVD sales or streams. She only cares about the big money that comes from concerts

Basically but then I have to say why does she even bother like just don't film it then if all your going to do is put it in the archives. She continuously gets our hopes up for nothing (well maybe not all of us but mine for sure!)

They may be keeping it for when she’s no longer able to tour this much. Putting all the videos safely away in a vault so that they have a way to make money when that day finally arrives. (10-15 yrs I’d guess)

I know a lot of us think this, but I can’t recall any artist who has actual done such a retrospective release? Whitney died, and I can’t think of any video they’ve actually released. People have done documentaries and nothing more.

That day has already come months ago. No one knows what Céline will be doing 10-15 years from now but what we all know for sure is that currently she’s not able to perform. Plus, they’ve got so much that they wouldn’t ever run out and they can keep recording in the future if needed.

Just go to Amazon and search for Whitney Houston and then sort by most recent. It’s not that hard. There have actually been several DVD’s released since her death. I went to Amazon and found it in less than 2 min.

Actually, before I posted the comment I already checked her personal Wikipedia page (seeing no reference to anything other than her greatest hits compilation posthumously released) and Amazon which gave me 126 DVD options for Whitney Houston, none of them seeming to be officially released from her estate posthumously.

I know about the documentaries, but according to my quick search I couldn't find the DVD in question. Which is its title, and since you already visited Amazon yourself which link did you find that is a posthumous release of great live performances released by her estate?

but I found a huge bevy of options. and I know there have been several DVDs since her death.

These performances weren't previously unreleased though, as I think a lot of us hope the imagined future Celine DVD actually would be i.e. the stuff her own personal film crews are filming.

Though I'm sure we would all love some remastered versions of her TV performances!

I have asked this question before and alot of people became very angry at me but I do sometimes wonder how much interest there will be in the unreleased stuff once she dies. Let's assume she dies in her 80s or 90s, I for ex weill be in my late 50's or late 60's just based off a rough estimation. I'm not sure how many of us will be rushing out there to buy those things and there is no guarantee the next generation will be into her music. Now I'd love to believe Celine's music will resonate with younger generations for many years to come but there is no certainty so I personally have never understood why they would keep it for later on. Unreleased music ok I understand but to continuously film and never release it makes no sense in my mind. That's why I am still convinced she shelves much of these projects due to her not liking the outcome. Quite frankly I am thankful she had Aldo atleast we used to get some footage when he was around. I am still shocked she gave the ok to broadcast the Asia tour in 2018.

70 is the new 50! I mean, if Barbra Streisand, heaven forbid, died tomorrow, I think there would be tremendous interest in her material. And she is almost 80

I think she shelves these unreleased DVDs as a source of income for her kids once she is gone so they can live off of her career.

They were also intending to broadcast the first Paris show this year. Hopefully they go ahead with those plans whenever they will be able to.
The best is yet to come...

They would already be fine. Why would waiting make more sense than releasing them now when she is still super popular and then just passing that money off to them?
