I'm already predicting no music video, and poor US opening sales with 50-60K if she's lucky.

IF THEY do something right maybe more.

They played it safe with the French album. If they do the same with the English one we can all wave goodbye to her international career. :bye1: She'll end up selling like Mariah.

They played it safe but they didn't.....she did 9 sold out shows in Paris (Where she is huge) before album released and launched a single with a formula that worked there before.  Jean Jaques Goldman + sentimental lyrics=hit!  And she opened with 200K albums in week one in France alone.

If she opened North of 100K in America this time I would consider it a success.

When she launched LMBTL in America (while I loved it) her core fan based (believe or not middle aged and older women) didn't buy it.  I know she wants Sia for this new record which is fine.  But the first single should be in the vein of a "A New Day has come"....something catchy but not bombastic or sounding like she's trying to be rihanna.

And she needs mountains of promo.  A concert tour of a few big cities would help too (New York, LA, Chicago, Boston, Fla.)

She tries LMBTL part two, sales won't be 77K opening in America they'll be 45K!

Each new album she has released since she is in Vegas it has become more clear to me that she can't keep releasing the same usual English album forever, indefinitely. I don't know how much the habit of French album/English album will work, but that formula seems to be living its last days with Céline, and I don't know how much more the industry will welcome another regular Celine Dion album, in the usual way they work: "let's gather a bunch of songwriters and producers here and there, without any direction and concept, and see what we get", you know?

What I'm trying to say is that I think it's becoming more obvious that she needs to release a defined album with a concept, style or whatever, but with a solid direction on it, if she wants to get some attention next time, and break the formula of releasing a new studio album just for the sake of it. She can't release another disastrous album like LMBTL again, in terms of the absolute lack of direction it had. The public won't pay any attention to her next time if she comes with such a random mishmash of songs.

The public needs to rediscover Celine Dion again. I think the time for that jazz album, dance album, classics album, foreign language album (or whatever you want to call it) is coming soon... Soon after her next release in 2017 at least.

Well said Javito! I agree. New album has to be coherent from top to bottom. Old formula doesn't work anymore. I think Aldo is trying to push some new ideas. Maybe Celine likes some of them but we must remember that the final decision always belongs to the executives in Sony. The same bunch of people who's been there since the very beginning.
The other thing that worries me is Celine's lack of interest in production side of the album. We all know her involvement or should I rather say lack of it. She comes to a studio for like couple of hours to sing her part the same way the demo was recorded and call it a day. At least that's how it looks. I'd like her to be more involved but that takes much more time than only few hours of recording. And since she loves to spend every minute with her family that's not gonna happen anytime soon. So say goodbye to taking any chances anytime soon before her kids get older.  :giggle:We're probably going to get LMBTL 2 with some "life celebration" theme.

Her international career is not what it used to be but she's still doing as well - if not better - than most of her peers.
And having a French album at the top of the world chart isn't that bad either. Well, hello International career! :-D

She's very successful with her French career still and she still has the charm with her French public, that's undeniable, but you can't say the same with her English albums and her presence with each English release since 2003. And the TCWT from 2008... well, that was years ago actually :)

I was playing LMBTL this is week and it is not bad album at all

its more like a Collectors V2

Las Vegas songs and new songs

Tiitle track is the best one
SLS and Breakaway are great, but needed some extra production

Water and the Flame, better than the original, just missing her touch, like she gave to The Power Of love, she stole the song from the artist

Save Your Soul and Didn't Know Love still save tracks

Thankful and Always Be Your Girl

doesn't fit the album, with the other original songs

the rest are fillers including US

I don't say that i don't like, just should be songs to promote the show in an EP

I hope this time they think in a concept, not an album sounding like rejecteds from other artists

if they do  like a DJ Set, could be the best idea to creat this new album

Start from happy songs to dark songs to the end, like Madonna did with confections.

Céline needs great songs to be able to "return", to have a prominence, to gain notoriety, she is one of the artists that sells the most and is not receiving due treatment for her label, that's the truth.

I realize that the songs they choose or send to her to select for her albums in English, seem like remnants or refusals from other artists, she does not need it, she does need some great songs, written songs, made for Céline, that's the formula Magic that changes everything.

I was listening to Taking Chances these days and realized how many songs had the potential to become hit singles, plus the album was neglected by its label that did not care, the same thing happened with Loved Me Back To Life, which was a mess, Cd was very well in the UK, I do not understand why they did not continue to promote it, and for sure in the UK their singles would be a success. His team instead of focusing on this market, abandoned everything and focused on the United States that did not accept this "new" way of singing.

Well, what I observe is that it is increasingly difficult for her to have good choices of songs in English, let us hope that everything will change.

I don't think DKL or SYS are really "safe." I think DKL is a little different in style than her other ballads. I LOVE her subdued vocal in it. SYS, to me was a breath of fresh air. A bit rock. Love it.

Her label in the US dropped the ball on promotion. No singles (even promotional). Nothing was pushed. The public couldn't reject this "new" way of singing because it was barely even presented to him.

Celine like to cover other songs. why? I don't know. Strange things : at the beginning she was talking a lot about Barbra Streisand but never did a cover of woman in love. she drop song we like for some uptempo that never made it to the radio. that's the way it is was her last hit I think

I agree, it seems like with Loved Me Back To Life they kind of just threw the album together without knowing which direction anything was going. It's kind of like a collection of songs she's recorded, but they didn't fit in anywhere. Then they added a couple of extra songs new songs and made an album. What really bothers me about Loved Me Back To Life is production. There is a reason why The Colour of My Love, Falling Into You and Let's Talk About Love are classics. They are so easy to listen to, and the replay value is higher because a great combination of good writing and excellent production. It doesn't age the same way her newer album does.

So yes, she needs direction. Objectively, Taking Chances is the only album she's released that is different from her usual work. It's more raw and slightly edgy. It's not exactly risky, but it doesn't feel rushed to the same extent LMBTL does. I feel like her best album is Falling Into You, it's got everything. Her team needs to believe that she could do that again. Today they have settled for "She's a good singer, she's already sold a lot of albums, this will be fine." instead of "Let's make something amazing".

I was recently in Vegas and saw Celine, and I was in the "Celine" store and I felt like I needed to buy something. So I decided to buy the physical copy of Encore Un Soir. I didn't care about sweaters or t-shirts or key chains or stuff like that. I want to buy something that has more value to me. Like an album, or even just an album but with a special Vegas cover or something. In the store in Vegas she has all of her albums, but I already have all of those. She should have either a live album or a Vegas album that can only be bought there. Or if you buy her albums there, they would come in a golden cover that was a special Las Vegas edition.

But for a new album, she definitely needs direction, good writers, but most importantly, good producers. There are so many amazing people she could work with that can do this. And I'm sure most people would love to work with her, just choose someone with talent, and let them work with her.

It doesn't matter how famous they are, what matters is quality, not how fast they can do it.

Many good points there. I too agree, my favourite albums by any artist are the ones where the songs are all different but have the same feel to them. It'seems hard to describe, perhaps a similar set of instruments or just the fact that the same team worked on the whole album. A couple of albums I could mention are Tina Arena's 'Eleven', or Roch Voisine's 'Confiances'.

That's what I think ^_^

In Taking Chances, even the covers are great, Taking Chances and Alone very well produced and it fits the album

that the woman in me, right next to the right one, new down

so many cover songs but its fine, they are great, but the new ones are better

This Time, Fade Away, Shadow of Love, My Love, Cant fight the feelin, nothin left and a song for you

even the Bonus track The Reason I Go On and Map to my heart and there comes a time

there is at least a coherent sound in the album, doesn't sounds so dated as LMBTL

I actually think it's beautifully written. I just wish they hadn't pitched her voice. I still enjoy it though.
