Have you guys seen what Daniel merriweather wrote on Facebook? Seems he isn't happy with Celine covering his song or taking credit for the song

Ive read his facebooki dont think hes being harsh, or saying he doesnt want her to cover it, he says he is flattered but that she could at least acknowledge him as the writer and original singer, he is basically saying he wrote the song and it means something to him, he wrote it when he was at his lowest, depressed, and basically that for celine to just record it and not mention him isnt fair.

I think this is another case of rene giving celine songs and not telling her theyre covers, eg if you asked me to (which as the time upset patti la belle). I mean I dont think celine would do it intentionally, she thanks janice ian for at seventeen, or at least acknowledges her in vegas. But soooooo many times celine will say I am so glad this song was written for me etc and sometimes the song was written for someone else. Im sure celine thinks breakaway is new, im sure she thought taking chances was new, I dont think rene tells her.

Im sure daniel will get a lot of heat on here for saying what he said. But in all honesty if you were going through the worst time of your life, wrote and recorded a song about it, and your basically just a small time singer, and then sony, rene, and celine (musical juggernauts) come in, sing your song and didnt even acknowledge it was yours to start with  I think we would be a little angry too, if we forget for a moment were celine fans, or better yet imagine it was mariah who did it with a less known celine song, say she took "I love you goodbye" had a hit with it but never once mentioned celine,   we would be a little bitter too.

But where did she say she was taking credit ? that's what I don't understand. Samantha Ronson poster a video of the Katie interview but I don't see where she says it's her song or she wrote it?
Think this should be a wake up call to drop the song and change the album title!
Bad press before the album even drops isn't good.
Think he could have contacted her people privately to sort it out rather than have a go on Facebook and twitter.

Because she doesnt thank him, basically he is saying its an unwritten rule you acknowledge other artists. If celine had just done rolling in the deep without saying I love adele, adele would have been upset, but that thanks or nod turns it from a rip off to an homage, daniel is upset that nowhere did celine say she heard a song she loved by a great singer songwriter and decided to do a cover, she is acting like its her song I think is what hes getting at.

Oh ok I understand  now.
She didn't say it in the interview but that doesn't mean she isn't grateful and she certainly doesn't say this is my song. It's obvious she knows it's a cover cos it's an Adele duet...and we all know she loves adele.
I hope she makes a statement or something about this to clear it all up .....and then drops the song from the album.

The single has not even been released yet! Lets all calm the fcuk down!!

The only thing we have seen are 2 edited interviews about that song! AND NO WHERE does she EVER insinuate that its her song! NEVER! Daniel is just a little cry baby searching for attention...

Seriously, this story is sooo stupid. Freaking CELINE "BIGGEST SELLING FEMALE ARTIST OF ALL TIME" DION is covering his song and the only thing he finds to do is to b*tch about it?!?!??!?!

"Celine didn't say that she wrote the song. If she didn't mention you Daniel, it doesn't mean she took credit as it is her own song. Her version isn't even fully released and people still have right to judge Celine. You can see that Celine enjoys the song and acts a bit but it's not like she cried. Credit stealing is when a singer changes few words and mentions in albums liner notes as a songs main writer or co writer.  So If Celine said: "I wrote this song!" and if she mentioned herself in albums or singles liner notes as writer  THEN she would be stealing. But she didn't mention who wrote it, nor did she mention that she wrote it and she didn't called her "own" song. She simply enjoyed a good song. If she doesn't mention you when she releases it as a single or when she releases it in album then ask for veto. She MUST put you in the liner notes!"

Some Samantha girl said that Celine didn't mention him when they played WAAF preview. And now he's complaining how he had a hard life bla bla. Water and a flame according to him is 50% his and 50% is Eg White's. He wrote all of the lyrics when he had a hard breakup according to him. He was happy when she mentioned Adele but not enough.

Wow, the comments on his facebook are going too harsh with Céline All because a misunderstanding. I have no idea where the hell this Daniel Merriweather got that Céline said she wrote the song, or that the song was written for her. He's SO wrong, and someone needs to tell him!

On the other hand, I'm not happy about this but I hope this serves as a lesson to Céline and René: their interest in always picking songs from others has maybe gone too far already Hope they learn to have ORIGINAL material to start the promotion of an album instead.

That's what this song deserves from the start. It's not single material (let alone the lead single of the album if that's what they're planning), and naming the album after it 2 years later is just nosense.

But this guy is SO SO wrong, where did he got that Céline is claiming to say the song is hers, or that it was written for her? She didn't say a thing! The video was just a sneak preview of what she was doing in the studio, the album promotion has not even started, the album is not even complete, its just ludicrous this guy is reacting that way.

Someone should tell him to get his facts straight before throwing the stone, especially in public like facebook
