Celine Dion’s triumphant return triggers contract extension talk

Celine Dion’s big day has finally arrived and with it the economic recovery hopes of an entire city and one of the world’s largest hotel corporations. The global superstar returns to The Colosseum at Caesars Palace tonight, and the world will be watching her premiere via a global satellite hookup from as faraway as Australia and Europe.

Expected first-night gala guests include Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber flying in from London, hometown master magicians Siegfried & Roy and talk show host Rosie O’Donnell. AEG producers, Celine’s Web site and Caesars Palace posted this morning the first photographs from her final dress rehearsal Saturday.

I am reliably told that Celine and manager husband Rene Angelil are already thinking of extending the new three-year contract by two additional years to make it another five-year stay. Five is a lucky number for the French-Canadian songbird and explains why she ended her last five-year run on Dec. 15, 2007, and starts the new run tonight -- March 15, 2011.

Those discussions have been triggered by her amazing ticket sales that are ringing up record numbers at the box office. Even January’s ducats will go on sale Saturday 10 months out, with 16 shows added over New Year’s from Dec. 28 through Jan. 22.

“We are ready for the opening,” Rene told me after the final rehearsal. “This is now it. Both Celine and I are very happy it is all together and ready. Celine says it is the perfect show for the fans, and I know they will love all the music and the special effects. She really excels singing live. She is outstanding and feels she is at the peak of her career. I believe people will want to see this spectacular again and again.”

Las Vegas is filled with fans from all over Europe and Canada, including Mayor Regis LaBeaume from Celine’s hometown of Quebec. Cirque du Soleil CEO Daniel Lamarre is excited: “We welcome Celine’s return to Las Vegas because she will add her dynamic appeal to the city’s entertainment scene.”

When i saw 5 years.. i was with open mouth..then i remembered i'm saving and i'м going in Vegas in the near 5 years!

Who knows.. and they could stop if the hall's getting empty.. As Celine said: "My fans will let me know if they want me to stop with it". I hope they'll be more careful this time!

I guess they are just in the talks of it.
i think i would wait like a few months to see how this show goes first and then make a decision.
but whatever she decides ill be happy for her.

Actually, after all the arguments here i stopped thinking of WHERE or WHAT is she singing, but does she sing at all.. I love everythin she does, and i know she won't stop working on new albums bc of Vegas. So if she want to stay .. I am with her!

With only 70 shows a year maximum I don't see 5 years being a problem.

In my worst nightmares about her return to Las Vegas this year was the terrible thought of another possible extension of the initial contract (like they did with AND). I didn't believe they could be capable of going that far again. I proved to be wrong

I'm starting to think that Céline's success and self confidence in the showbusiness is going too far overnight.

I don't think it's true. I mean, it's obvious that she will spend the rest of her carreer there, and that's why she is there again. But they are smart and they will see how it goes in these firts years to extend the contract. And being real, there are A LOT of employeds behind this show. It's not a decision of Celine and Rene only. There are other people who wants earn money. It will all depends of how it will goes though the years.

The worst part about the extension is, I will see her in April but before the 5 years was up I'd want to see her again and I don't think I can afford two trips down there. And at least with a tour I would get to see her in my state!

whatever Celine, and Rene, decide I will be happy. Heck, I will just see them again.

I think she'll finish the three year, maybe do another album and tour again and then take a big break for once in her life where she can enjoy her family.

Or she does the five years and takes a break

Even if she does continue the show it doesn't matter her age, I consider 48 young and let us not forget Tina and Cher had their biggest chart topping concerts when they we're in their 50's and 60's.

Its not Celine's age that matters here, its Rene's - hes 26 years older than Celine. When she's 50, he's going to be 76, and so she's going to want to enjoy life with him. Also, once he does pass away, I doubt we'll ever hear anything from Celine ever again. Sad thought I know

Celine herself said in front of cameras that if she would ever come back to las vegas, she would never stay for another 5 yrs. She said its too long; 5 yrs is a lifetime.

I hope she's not going to do that. 3 yrs is wayyy good enough!

Please nooooo, I really hope they finally decided not to extending show, I think it is too earaly thinking about it, who knows if "Celine" will have such big success as AND had, I can´t imagine that next 5 years will be Céline performing "only" in Vegas this one show, if she would do also some diffrent performances, something like mini tour so maybe, but if she wants sing only in Vegas, that´s very bad news.
