The point of the segment is to honor those who we lost this year.  They rarely ever have a live singer as part of it, it's usually the orchestra, or they air clips by performers who died.

Beside that, it was an incredible performance from Celine.  Hoping a HQ mp3 surfaces.  It was great!!!

Very anticlimatic I didn't see her in the red carpet show on ABC or etalk canada; I watched all the show and they never pointed the camera towards her; I saw her face for 2secs; she was so beautiful and her dress was amazing but her performance was too short and she was thrown on stage and put back into the unknown for like 2secs. It's very disappointing.

Yeah, wish they showed Celine more or they could've showed both her onstage and the screen with all the people who passed away(Gloria Stuart was there from Titanic ). It's soo weird there's no introduction   I guess at least Anne Hathaway thanked Celine and Halle Berry for the memoriam after the commercial

Really people?! Celine could have declined and we could have just been content with the Oprah episode, but no, she did the Oscars! She even did the Red Carpet! Can't you be thankful for anything?! The section of the show that she was asked to participate in is about those who have passed on in the past year, not about the singer.  Gosh! Give the woman a break!

On a completely different note, it was very beautiful and I started bawling the moment she stepped on stage. GO CELINE!

All people lecturing me (ok, us) about it being abut the dead people and not Celine, thank you but no thank you. Keep your wisdom to yourself. They could have  shown her and the pictures behind her.

She was absolutly AMAZING! Her voice is perfect and she did a great, great job.

Here's what makes me love Celine even more...although she's a brilliant singer she knows that this moment is not about her and so she chooses a classic dress, very simple, very discrete. Like "i'm only here to sing. the real stars are these people we're honoring".

So don't ask the woman who just had twins and is putting together a new show in Vegas to come sing a 3 minute song with 2.5 seconds of screen time.  They could have easily kept the camera on Celine while video of the deceased played on the screen behind her.  I guarantee you Rene is going to watch this back and be in disbelief.  They should have just asked her to prerecord the song in a studio and let them play it while they ran the video.  I'm sure it is always a humbling experience for Celine to sing in front of Hollywood's royalty but there's 200 million people around that are watching as well.  She's never looked or sounded better at the Oscars and of course something had to ruin her performance.
