Celine is now recognized as a music legned by the likes of mainstream acts like Rhianna, and she is considered one of the "Divas" right up there with Tina, Barbara, Mariah and Whitney. She's sold her bazillion albums, has had her huge #1 smashes.....etc
Shes sailing now in terms of her popularity and fanbase. Whenever she tours she'll sell out--shes a household name thats been recordin in english for two decades.
She'll never have a "hip" happening #1 itunes selling hot single anymore....unless she records a really fantastic fresh song tha crosses over..but that doesnt matter....Shes "CELINE DION" people!

i definitely agree with this.. Taking Chances could've been HUGE for her if they would've just marketed it the right way and released more singles instead of just Taking Chances. She was actually making TV appearances on award shows and talk shows, late night shows... taking chances was a hit but there are a lot of great songs on that album that could've done well on mainstream radio.. tsk tsk to Sony for not doing this!!

Taking chances wasn't a hit in sales, although it was downloaded more than 300,000 times in the USA, but I think that it was a hit because a lot of people know the song. If you ask people to give the title of one Celine song released recently, they will answer Taking chances. It was not forgotten like Alone or Eyes on me were.

I disagree. The mild fan who "kinda knows her stuff" may say Taking Chances, but sadly the average person walking down the street would say My Heart Will Go On.

So yeah, this song was a flop in the U.S but was a hit in Canada.
''A New Day Has Come'' and ''I Dove All Night'' songs were also H-U-G-E Hits in Canada!
''A New Day Has Come'' went #2 on the Canadian Hot 100 and #1 on the Canadian Adult Contemporary Chart
''I Drove All Night'' went #1 on Canadian Hot 100 and #1 on the Canadian Adult Contemporary Chart
Celine is definitely NOT out of the market here in Canada!

Yes, average person would say MHWGO. But (almost) every average person in (almost) every country in the world. But ask average person in every country beside USA and Japan about last Mariah's hit. Person would probably say he/she didn't remember any hit or even didn't knew Mariah

I CONSTANTLY hear her songs playing. the other month, i was in mexico, and i was walking around this boardwalk, where like tons of clubs are, and all the sudden my heart will go on started to play.
Celine is number one, always has been, always will be.

I also think that Celine has an unmistakable voice and a stigma for being that overplayed "My Heart Will Go On" artist all these years down the line. The unmistakable voice issue comes into play as it would be nearly impossible for the label to service a "white label" promo that credits the track to an anonymous artist and try to sneak one past prejudiced radio jocks. So, in effect, Celine's asset, her voice, has also become a liability.
Celine also doesn't put on airs and try to be cool. When she plays "sultry" or "sexy", it is often that people don't take that image of her seriously. Again, Celine's honesty about her image, another asset, is also a liability.

To stay on topic, I think TC could have done a LOT better if it was promoted better as someone above said. But, like everyone says, she has a huge fan base. She will always be the best to me and I don't care what the public thinks of her, although it's fun telling them how great she is...
