My Love has been playing several times a day in The Home Depot (in Canada) for a few months now (including today !!)
Ya, I obviously work there.
The only other Celine tune that I remember hearing over the last few years was I'm Your Angel.  People I work with know NOT to use the paging system when "my gal" is singing.

Celine is just like Cher or Tina or Barbra or any of the other established singers that are no longer chart toppers. They have huge fan bases and still have success but it's unlikely they'll be number one again in today's market. It's not even worth worrying about, it's just a sign of the times. And it has nothing to do with songwriters or producers really. If Celine was to come out with BYLM today in 2009 it's unlikely it would get to number one and it definitely wouldn't have become a global smash because fewer people buy singles and fewer people are interested in that genre of music. It's all about being cool these days and Celine, thankfully, is not cool. Because like Ben said, cool comes and goes and more importantly it changes, so whats cool now won't necessarily be cool 10 years from now. But Celine bypasses the trend, she doesn't rely on her looks or on a certain producer or on her image so she can hang around as long as she likes as long as her fans are interested, and we are.

:thumbsup2:  well said Thomas, I completely agree

In terms of her fanbase, Celine has a very loyal and strong one. This is obvious, as shown by this forum and the way she can still sell out an arena. In terms of the Top 40 market, she is no longer cool. Could she come back into the Top 40? If the proper promotion and work was put into it, yes. Look at people like Cher. I'm not a Cher fan, but she had one of her biggest hits when she was much older than Celine. And that hit was only 10 years ago or something. People like Madonna can still crack the Top 10 with many of their singles. You just have to release the right single at the right time and go on the right shows. It's about taking a long break and refreshing yourself and your image. It's not even about totally changing your sound. It's about exploring new sounds and singing more modern songs.

In terms of the Top 40 market Celine might not be as popular, but in terms of legendary status she has reached in in less years than many. She will always have her loyal fanbase, so in that way she is still on the market. She is regarded by many as the voice of her generation, has many awards, broken many records, so she is in a market of her own. Technically she does not need the Top 40 market anymore, but it'd certainly be nice if she still had a lot of hits like the 90's.

Celine is class, she is not some made-up-boob-showing singer that uses her sole image to promote herself. She uses her voice and her knowlege and that shades her in the background a bit... and plus she's not the queen of the millenium, she was the queen of the 90s, and that was hell of a lot of fun while it lasted, but now... things have changed...

Celine of course is still on of the world's most pretigious voices and a very legendary figure, but the market is always changing and Celine's chooses not to change with it - she keeps her class and her fans and that's really all that matters.

And plus, she's not completely out of the loop. They still play her here and there, just not AS often. Don't let the market get you down! :)

If it makes any difference, I wasnt a Celine fan until this year :P

Before she was just some legendary singer to me, but I never really listened to her songs. I always associated her with old people music lol. But then I was on youtube one day and I decided to look up some of her stuff, and I was like...WOW! Shes amazing! Now I have this CD mix with all my favorite Celine songs and thats pretty much all I play when I'm driving around. My friend who is an avid Mariah fan and a Celine disser and sits in my car nearly everyday...USED to make a fuss whenever I played Celine. But now she just sits in the car with me and we both sing Celine's songs like losers :D. And it turns out my mom really liked Celine's stuff too, but she never knew who sang it. Thats too bad...all those years our family went to Vegas...never once did we even think to go watch Celine's show. :( *bicker*

Anyways, who cares if Celine is in or out of the market? I think her music to everybody is timeless, and anybody who can appreciate music and art will be able to enjoy her music. Besides, if Celine goes all Paris Hilton on us, I think I would cry

I liked Celine when Titanic came out but I wasn't a fan then, I remember after seeing the movie my mom took my cousin and I to wal mart and bought us both the LTAL CD that the song MHWGO was on but it wasn't until I saw the ANDHC video one morning on VH1 after the video came out did I become a fan, like die hard fan. I saw the video, and literally stopped in my tracks in my bedroom and stood their watching it. I remember my mom picked me up from my bff's house and took me to buy the ANDHC cd when it came out too and I took it with me when my friends mom took us to Kings Island and we played it in the van and her mom had to turn it off because she was falling asleep! She said the music was to soft and slow, so she forced us to listen to hard rock music for three hours. :puke:

You took the words out of my mouth! Celine COULD still have a number one hit again but Im sure thats not at the top of her list of things to do. Shes a ledgend with a huge fan base so no matter what she does she has support. Everyone knows who Celine is around here, even my three year old cousin knows her, maybe not by name but as pretty woman, but he knows her! LOL I also hear her on the radio and in some stores especially during holidays..

HELLO!

well...in Mexico we said "saint who is not seen, is not adored"... so I think that its very "normal" that artist, singers when they are not often seen, are being left behind or people who is not a huge fan starts to listen others who are on the charts...

many people is not particularly a fan of someone, just like listening to what is fashionable at the moment

Will see how SONY :ermm: managed this marketing stuff...now that she´s on vacations, but sadly we know how it works... not too much promo... :angry2:

but I ( I mean "we" the fans right?     ?) will support her ALLWAYS, no matter what... :thumbsup2:

BTW...I have just seen the "NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2" movie, and there was very funny scene where the 3 fountain angels (who looks like JONHAS BROS lol  ) sings a very small strophe from MHWGO...LOL... so...CELINE AND HER SONGS...ARE STILL ON THE AIR FOR SHURE...

HUGS!

Celine's TAKING CHANCES album should have been here true "comeback"...SHADOW OF LOVE, FADE AWAY, THIS TIME, even EYES ON ME would all have been fantastic single choices to get her into the top 10, if not back up to number 1.

I guess there are not many people who really admire her music anymore.

That doesn't have any impact on me because I will always support Celine no mattter what she does. Go Celine!!

Exactly, it doesnt matter if she's not on top of the charts. She's still going to sell out venues all over the world, and whatever she does she's going to sell millions of copies. All that matters is that she's the same person she was 10,15,20 years ago.... That's another thing that I REALLY love about her, she's true, not a trend follower.

I don't think Celine is "out of the market." It's true that it may be harder for her to compete with the latest flavor of the month or American Idol winner since that's where the entertainment  industry currently wants to concentrate it's resources on but of course those people usually don't have lasting successful careers like she does.

Obviously she has been and is one of the most successful singers in the world. It's difficult to stay at the top and even though she has not had a big hit in awhile she just completed one of the most successful world tours recently. I believe the TC tour was listed as one of the top money making tours of 2008.

I think that she is not done with working yet. I think she feels she has more to prove to herself. I kind of like the fact that she is lying low right now because I think it will make it more exciting when she announces whatever her next plans may be for 2010. It sounds like LV for some of it. I kind of wish she would do something totally off the wall at some point. Like recording an a totally different type of album. I'm not sure that will happen. I'll just be happy to hear what she will be doing next.

I really don´t get this gay thing! It´s irritating.

I´ve got many friends that are Celine fans, and I´ve met online. I only know that two of them are gay and they are women! The guy´s I know are not gay.

My dad listens to Celine a lot on the computer (from Youtube) and Lara Fabian, he loves them and he´s not gay.

I just think all different types of people like Celine :) and that´s fantastic

I feel the same way. I used to feel alienated being a straight Celine fan, but now I realized that music doesn't decide your sexuality, that there are many different Celine fans and our one common factor is that we are all a fan of Celine Dion.

Plus, this place is nothing compared to the Madonna board. They treat straight males like a foreign species there! :lmao:

Celine doesn't need to be on the top at these time cause she's there right now.  she doesn't need to step down for now...well guys?

who's the best selling female artist of all time?

and she doesn't need to be a hit at these time either, why?  'coz she's a very established artist, a one of a kind that's here to stay.  The name Celine is already a household in every corners of the world.  Radio stations and music channel do still play her music but of course it belongs to the 90's, love songs or classic categories.

she is not out of the market, she still sells well compared to divas of her generation as well as the younger ones. however, it is no longer cool - hasn't been since 2000/2001 - to like Celine. She isn't what they call hip. In a way, i don't care because i would love her to start attacking standards which would make her even more uncool but cement her place amongst the greats even more if that is possible, but i would love her to remain a top seller. unfortunately for the time being, the music trend doesn't allow her to be IN the market, even though with the last album, if Sony did a better job at promoting the album and they chose a more normal Celine picture for the cd cover, she would have sold much more. So in the end, it is a matter of current music tastes and marketing

The singles...Taking Chances, Eyes On Me, A World To Believe In, Alone.

The only good choice was Taking Chances. The only one that was performed a million times was Taking Chances (and Alone a bit too).

But she did all the promotion at the same time, everything was promoted mid-november it seemed like. If she would have had five singles released between every 1-2 months, and each having a decent amount of live performances/promotion done, it could have been a success. Many artists today go on and promote every single they release. The only single that was actually promoted was Taking Chances.

Fade Away, Taking Chances, Shadow Of Love, Map To My Heart, and even That's Just The Woman In Me could have been successful singles.

um... Nick Jonas of Jonas Brothers loves Celine, and he's probably doing Miley Cyrus rite now.

And as for "too old", it depends on the taste and preference. Some ppl prefer conforming to the trend and some ppl prefer sticking to quality.

Yeah, that's true, lol. But it's rare for anyone his age, let alone a male to like Celine. If he wasn't so musically inclined he'd probably think she wasn't cool like 99.8% of the guys his age.

We're both born in the same year he was, I believe, and we both like Celine Tyler!

I believe Kevin and Joe both love Celine as well. I would enjoy then duetting with her, and then all the JB fans would adore Celine and it'd push her back up a bit. See, my promotive mind is a-workin on you.
