Actually if you cannot give a reliable source wikipedia will delete anything you put on so that it is as accurate as possible. All of the facts on wikipedia have sources linked to it.

I doubt very much you will find the other sources to back up 12 million sold. Where as we have facts and links that can prove Celines 11.5 mill

That's a great news! Celine's voice makes me warm during the Christmas holidays. I'd like her to have second Christmas album since there're many good Christmas songs out there. I think that would be fantastic!

Those are very impressive figures.  As for Mariah selling more than Celine...keep in mind her album was released in 1994 and Celine's was released in 1998.  That's a humongous time gap considering there was no internet downloading at the time (that's 4 entire holiday seasons that people went out to buy Mariah's album until Celine's was released).  Also remember that Mariah's single went #1 in Japan and is played nonstop every Christmas season on US radio stations.  It is to my knowledge that Celine never had any official holiday-themed single released off her album (other than IYA and TP but who really considers those holiday songs?), although OHN is considered the hallmark of that album in the US.  We can probably attribute the massive success of Celine's Xmas album to 'I'm Your Angel' and the CBS special (if I recall well, it had the highest ratings for that evening).  I've never been much of a fan of Mariah but her Xmas cd is actually quite good and includes some favorites that are not on Celine's cd.

No one really considers ''I'm Your Angel'' and ''The Prayer'' holiday songs but they are on the album so they def help just like ''All I Want For Christmas'' does.

Merry Christmas was certified 4xPlatinum in 1996. It sold 425k just from 2004-2006. That's what I know for the US sales of this album. I don't have information for the late 90's. As for the holiday-themed singles Mariah released ''All I Want For Christmas'' cause she wrote it. I don't think a classic Christmas song that everyone knows would be such a hit. But clearly there almost isn't sales difference between the 2 albums album so it isn't such a big deal.

where did you get that it only sold 8 million? that sounds like the number based on certifications only - for which celine's tast figure based on certifications only is only around 7 million.  based on certifications alone merry christmas outsold celine's these are special times by a tiny bit.  if you claim tast sold around 11.5 million, then it is not hard to believe mariah's is around 12 million.  mariah edges out celine by a tiny bit due to her huge success in japan, merry christmas sold close to 3 million in japan alone.

however, I believe celine will ultimately overtake her worldwide with this album

and before anyone accuses me of being a lamb although I'm a fan of old mariah celine is always my #1 and I'm always silently cursing mariah and hoping she bombs with every album, so whatever
