It has sold 5,006,000 copies. It just barely beat out Mariah Carey's 1994 release Merry Christmas, which has sold 4,918,000 copies. But both of these ladies were beaten to the punch by Barbra Streisand, whose A Christmas Album has been certified for sales of 5,000,000 by the Recording Industry Assn. of America. The album was released in 1967, nearly 24 years before Nielsen/SoundScan set up shop.

Why would they say both of these ladies were beaten to the punch by Barbra Streisand? I think 5M by soundscan is more than 5M by RIAA, retail VS shipment. Also soundscan doesn't include music club sales. I think TAST in under certified by RIAA, only 5.00x MULTI PLATINUM.

Wow, that is such a great news.  i was able to have the album in the year 2002 but only in cassette tapes, but i purchased the CD a week ago, when it was re-released here in the Philippines.  It's the best X-mas album ever.  I even made a comment about the album on www.cduniverse.com and if you want to read it here's the link:

I think that 5.000.000 copies for a Xmas album is a big success!!

worldwide, Mariah Carey's Merry Christmas remains the biggest selling Christmas album by a female artist i do believe.. with 13.5M copies, and 11.5M for These are Special Times. :flowers:

Yes. The album has sold nearly 12 million copies world wide.

The biggest selling is Kenny G's Miracles which sold 13 million worldwide. Others are:

Celine Dion - These are Special Times 11.5 million
Elvis Presley Christmas Album 10 Million copies (although many countries sales are not known)
Mariah Carey - Merry Christmas 9.5 million (in countries where sales are known)

I think you will find where sales are known Celine has sold much more and shipped even more. The only countries where sales are know for Mariah is what is on Wikipedia and come from reliable sources (Yes I know wikipedia can be unreliable). All of these source and research into other markets show Mariah has shipped just under 10 million copies of "Merry Christmas". There is no proof it has sold any more than that apart from people speculation.

Anyway, TAST is #26 on Top Catalog Chart and #157 on Comprehensive Chart! So it must have sold between 4.5 and 5k! Great!

But I really think Mariah's Christmas album sold more than Celine's.
