Her new song BLEW ME AWAY. Have you seen the video with the jazz beginning and ending? I can't wait to hear the entire album, and see if she carries this "jazz" theme throughout the entire album. It's exactly what I've wanted Celine to do.

...however, it seems like she can only do one vocal acrobat...it sounds exactly like it does in the Moulin Rouge song.

Regardless, it's a great song that a lot of time and thought went into, and it's obvious.

It seems that every time Christina sings she improvises more and more until she kills the song. She kind of reminds me of Lara Fabian at times, only she's Christina. lol

"Ain't No Other Man" is not JAZZ to me. I'm a fan of Jazz, and I'm a fan of many greats of Jazz, for many years now. The only recent song I can think of at the top of my head that has "Ain't" in it and IS considered Jazz is "If I Ain't Got You" and it's ain't Christina!  :giggle:

But I see her strategy that she has to appeal to the masses and put a catchy song out there to attract people to buy her album. I'm sure that in her album, there will be some very soulful jazz pieces that will touch my heart one way or another. So, yes, I too am looking forward to hearing some songs.  :)

meh. I think her voice is farely mediocre, and I don't often focus on the voice when I'm choosing who I like and who I don't like, something about her irritates me.

I listened to it and I didn't find anything spectacular about it. Only few songs had the "old" feeling.. the rest was just typical Christina.. Also I think it's very hard for me to listen to more then 3-4 songs at the time.. her voice is just too much.. all over the place.

I bought her Stripped album when it came out.. it had so many styles and too many songs.. it tried to be everything at the same time, if the album only had like 12 songs it would be great.
I saw that this album as well have too many songs.. she could have released them as b-sides on her upcoming singles instead.. or different editions of the album.. that would be much more fun..

I didn't say that the song was "jazz"...I said in the music video there is a beginning and ending with a jazz-like sound to it. That part does not come on the radio. I'm a huge fan of jazz music, and I know that this woman is not a jazz singer!  ;)

I'm looking forward to hearing the album!

I got the CD. The first disc was a MAJOR let down. It had a few good tracks, but nothing like I was craving. Then, I put in the second CD and I was blown away. So many of those songs are the kind I want Celine to perform/record. I still think Celine could do so much better in the genre than Christina....

I think people put Xtina in a bracket of talent that she really shouldn't be in...people compare her to the divas, when as far as I am concerned she hasn't done much to graduate her from glorafied Britney. I like that she can take risks - but she pretty much had to, were is she going to go after stripped? Her voice, and her songs always sound the same to me.

Quote

Aguilera reaches for respect
Despite her stellar voice, this twin CD is double tedious

That Christina Aguilera has a phenomenal voice is without dispute. Like Celine Dion, she has almost alien skills, able to run octaves and bellow forcefully as easily as you or I might draw a breath. That hasn't changed on Back to Basics; it's a two-disc package with 22 songs, and she packs a wallop on every track.

The complicated thing with Aguilera is that simply having a great voice is never enough; since her 1999 debut as a teen pop act, she always has something to prove. On her '02 CD, Stripped, she showed the world she was Dirrty, as the song went, and not some wholesome Genie In a Bottle. Back to Basics is a heavily mounted effort that seems determined to demonstrate that Aguilera is a serious, classic artist; she's listed as executive producer and also a co-writer on every track.

Some of those songs I might not be all that anxious to take credit for. The second disc is a chore, a tedious, derivative excursion into retro, '40s, big-band-type music. Candyman is the most memorably awful because it so blatantly rips off Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, the Andrews Sisters' song covered in the '70s by Bette Midler. Too bad about Linda Perry, who co-wrote most of this second disc and was undoubtedly responsible for most of the, um, tunesmanship; she appears to have officially moved into the realm of "take the money and run."

The first disc opens in soul-gospel mode, with songs such as Makes Me Wanna Pray giving Aguilera the opportunity to wail impressively. It ends with dance-type cuts such as Still Dirrty and Here to Stay, which possess good, sexy beats.

Fully half of the material on the two-CD set references her new husband: Ain't No Other Man, The Right Man, etc. etc. New love is so sweet, isn't it? But Basics does best when Aguilera stops trying so darn hard and just sings: On Our Way has her climbing scales over a funky base with piano and strings rising up every so often to make the song soar. It's simple but beautiful. Without You, another love note to hubby (chorus: "What kind of world would it be without you"), has a sweet girlishness that conveys more about her vulnerability than any of her more pointed efforts.

Christina Aguilera
