Album Title: The Emancipation of Mimi
Producer(s): various
Genre: POP
Label/Catalog Number: Island B0003943
Release Date: April 12
Source: Billboard Magazine
Originally Reviewed: April 16, 2005
"The Emancipation of Mimi" is Mariah Carey's most satisfying album since her 1997 collection, "Butterfly." The latter disc spawned multiple hits and has sold 3.7 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. "Mimi" has already notched a hit with "It's Like That," and a second singlethe midtempo ballad "We Belong Together"is ascending the charts. Carey's emancipation is drenched in hip-hop and old-school R&B ballads, and it smartly focuses on her strengths. While her voice has lost some of its power through the years, "Mimi" deftly showcases her still-considerable pipes with strong lyrics and slick production. In addition to the aforementioned singles, highlights include the Snoop Dogg-spiced thump of "Say Somethin'," the gorgeous ballads "Mine Again" and "Circles," the bouncy silliness of "Get Your Number" and gospel closer "Fly Like a Bird."KC

personal opinion: I don't think Celine need #1 single to prove herself. Celine won't record stupid song like "we belong together" and squeal like a bi**h in heat, enlarge her boobs, use computer make her as thin as Beyonce to get #1 on chart.

Plus...sure Mariah as 16 number ones but do you believe she could ever sell out an entire theater night after night for several years??? Probably not.

if they're talking album and singles sales - Madonna probably takes the lead there, seeing how she's got about ten years worth of hits more than Celine or Mariah

She has too many ups and downs.
One album is #1 and another one is #30
I mean, Celine is not #1 everytime but she has more balanced sales.
