I´ve read at Wikipedia that Celine is actully a Lyrical Colouratura Soprano and her vocalrange is 5 Octaves.
I believe she is because she has devoloped her voice through the years and wen´t to Opera training...according to this info i stick but i´ve read she is mezzo soprano and soprano that is because she prefers singin in that range her upper register is sooooo bright and crystal clear reminds me of Sarah Brightman.

I came to an answer

Celine's octave range ( counting all her live and studio songs ) is 3.2
while Mariah's 5 octaves

but then again Celine is better because Mariah uses her head and whistle voice to hit the high notes starting from A5
while Celine is one of the few and very few people who can hit A5 , Bb5 and B5 with her chest voice
Mariah can't she only reached an A5 once in studio in harmonize (I don't believe it )
Whitney also can't ( her highest is G#5)
so that makes Celine Better I think
because she can hit the whole 5th octave with her chest
and her highest chest live note is A5 (man's world Paris )and that is almost impossiple to do live and realy few people can do that

Can you post the exact video of this performance? I was looking around, and I cannot seem to find anything different about those in Paris than any others. Thanks!

ut then again reaching high notes deosn't make you a good singer
whistle notes are hitting high notes that is a fact
but are they hard ... not at all but they harm the voice realy bad ( look at Mariah now )

to me I think when you wanna judje a singer you have to consider :
1 : singing in low regester 2nd and 3rd octave
2 :hitting the high chest notes C5 to B5 ( or in some cases some singers hit C6 in chest but that also destroys the voice)
3 :the ablety of transforming between notes ( no one do it better than Celine )
4: fabrato in high notes ( again Celine)
5 :and most importenly how high can they held a note (  Celine is the only singer I know who can hold a F5 for 10 seconds in ABMS )

so that shows Celine is absolotly by a milion mile is the best

and to all Marioah's fans who think whistling is amazing
where is her wistling now
I doubt if she can reach a c5 by her chest voice now while she is only 38
Celine did her very best notes in her 40s

yeah..this is the video I've been trying to fix..  
I've got nothing to do this weekend so I'll try to fix and upload the video on the forum...it's a nice interview and I can't believe no one has seen it before

Nice interview and if she says herself she is infact Mezzo Soprano cause she hasn´t the operatic talent well that was in 1997...12 years has passed since and her voice is definely not Mezzo not now cause her speaking voice is very bright and she can hit operatic high notes flawlessly.
Celine is a Soprano according to her singin teqnigue but maybe i am wrong.

But if she is a Mezzo then she is Lyrical Mezzo and her range is not 5 octave then but 3.2 Octaves.

Now many sources has talked about Celine's voice and range and there are
so many diffirent comments about her voice and nobody seems to know
what kind of vocaltype she has.

I´ve read she has Mezzo soprano' then another source says
she is a Soprano.
Because of some high notes she can reach'
She has told herself she is a Mezzo soprano lightish'
But she wasn't 100% shure.

On Wikipedia source' there says she has 5 octave range
but not what kind of voice she has'
I am not shure it is correct she has 5 when Mariah carey
has 5 and she can hit higher notes...Celine's highest note
i believe is an High E#6...?

She doesn't have 5 octaves, but she has more than the average bird, and what is so amazing about her is she has a huge chest voice range, the largest I have ever seen actually! She goes LIVE 4 notes higher in chest than Mariah 5 notes higher in chest than Whitney, and she is doing this now in her 40's. Thats outstanding!

Lowest Note (Studio): Bb2 - New Dawn
Lowest Note (Live): B2 - Have You Ever Been In Love (Divas) - I will say this is much more impressive then the Bb2 due to the fact that it was an actual word and not a breath.

Highest Note (Studio): C#6 - Treat Her Like A Lady (Exclamation) (could be wrong on this)
Highest Note (Live): E6 - Knock On Wood (Exclamation)
Highest REAL Note (Live): C#6 - Dans Un Autre Monde (Star Academy)

As far as chest notes go, the highest I've seen is the G5 in CHFIL and whatever Natural Woman was on Divas Live (either a G5 or F#5).

I agree. The chest notes matter the most. I don't care about the whistle notes very much.

Richard Cocciante (songwriter "L'Amour existe encore") said in a French TV show in 1999 that Celine had 5 octave but it does not show all the extent of his vocal abilities.
