I wouldn't mind one Spanish song being included on the upcoming English album, why not? ^_^

Just because she is successful with her french albums which doesn't have as large of a market as spanish speakers have doesn't mean a all spanish album will be just as successful. I'm not saying that it couldn't be but that its success in that market is not a guaranteed thing. Besides everyone complains about how long we have had to wait for a new studio anglophone album as well as how long we waited for SA imagine how much longer the wait between albums could potentially be if they now throw in a spanish album into the mix. Because I'm sorry but the won't scrap an English or French album in place for a Spanish one. It wouldn't happen.

Natalie Cole has recorded her first Spanish album and she doesn't speak the language. So no need for Celine to learn Spanish as she did with English. She has recorded many songs in Spanish already and, as Javito has said, her pronunciation is great, much better than many non-Spanish singers who have recorded in the language. Also, Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world after English, so if Celine has success in French, she can also have a hit with a Spanish album.

I think that Humberto Gatica, her long time vocal engineer was one of the people who encouraged her the most to record in spanish. In fact, songs like "Mejor Decir Adiós" or the collaboration with Café Quijano happened thanks to him. Now that he's no longuer in the boat with her, I fear that it doesn't happen anymore  He was one of the biggest enthusiasts for a spanish album to happen.

Maybe more guaranteed that another english or french album which offers just more of the same we've seen for the past 30 years ^_^ Her french albums are just successful and played in France and french-speaking Canada (and other european countries where french is spoken), but a spanish album would reach everywhere ;) And nobody is saying that if she were to open the path with a spanish album she would necessarily have to keep a career in this language and then release more albums. It would be just an experience, a challenge for her, and above all, doesn't she say she sings today just for fun? No pressures here, just something new for her career which will probably bring her more success. Don't underestimate the potential and the huge market that the spanish music has, and much more if it were to happen in the form of an album by Celine Dion :)

It's a shame she didn't give it her all to learn Spanish over her break in 2000 as she thought she would.  That said, why not record a Spanish album?  I think it would be very popular and if they did an entire project, I think it  would be something as a labor of love. Granted, I'd INSIST on her not putting covers of her English or French songs on it (as the results of "I Don't Know" and "If That's What It takes" are FREAKIN' AWFUL), but  I think it would be a lovely project for Celine.

That's another fact for which I'm glad she recorded in my language: unlike the covers she did from french to english in FIY, the two spanish covers she has recorded (Sola Otra Vez and Aun Existe Amor) are just as good as the original versions  Sola Otra Vez had a huge success in both Latin America and Spain (where its still played very often today in radios), and Aun Existe Amor, well I wouldn't say its better than the french version, but it certainly took the song to another level with the spanish guitars they added, that made the song sound as brand new and not a copie of the original song ^_^ . And the incredible performance she did of the song in the Latin Billboards of 2002 with that standing ovation, just proved the magic works in this language. In some way, the performance we never had of Sola Otra Vez was returned with this amazing rendition in those awards :in_love:

If she were to record a full spanish album today, I can only image a huge impact in the music industry and the radios everywhere, with the right promotion of course. Just imagine Celine singing argentinian tangos for example... "El Día Que Me Quieras", "Caminito" or "A Media Luz"... Well she has said she loved Carlos Gardel, so half the work is done already! :P

Question for fluent Spanish speakers -- does she sound natural when singing in Spanish? I'm curious because after listening to the beautiful way Celine sings in French, I found it hard to listen to the Josh Groban songs where he sings in French - it just didn't sound natural, probably because he doesn't really know the language (I'm assuming).   So I'm just curious as to how Celine singing Spanish sounds to Spanish speakers.

She pronounces almost perectly. One of the best non spanish singers to sing in spanish (Christina Aguilera probably the best). Maybe Celine's Rs are a little too strong for her to pass as a natural spanish speaker.

Her pronounciation is pretty good in all her spanish songs. However, some letters like R, J, S or Z pronounces them a lil bit stronger...I must say, her spanish accent it's similar like people who live in Spain. But as a foreigner, I thinks that's normal, she've done a really good job :)

Look at this at 2.36

I'd really love to hear her answering or saying a small speech in spanish (more words than the ones she said during her concerts here ^_^ )

It's so nice to hear some of u saying that Celine's Spanish is good. She hasn't released a Spanish song for years, I'm hoping to see there's a song in Spanish in the upcoming album, although I don't understand Spanish.

However, a friend of mine who speaks Japanese, told me that Celine's Japanese is a bit weird after hearing the Japanese version of AWTBI. She said Celine just singing it like English... LOL :giggle:

By the way, I think her Mandarin is quite good when she sang Jasmine Flower :pinch:

Desafortunadamente, creo que ella no va a grabar en español. Creo que si ella fuera (fuese) grabar en español, ella ya lo habría hecho.

Unfortunately, I don't think so. I think if she were going to record in Spanish, she would've already done it. Still, if she did, it would be well-receieved and would probably be at the top of the charts in some Spanish-speaking countries.

It's not too late, do it Celine! Nos sorprenda! "El agua y el fuego" :P

It's not too late, but I agree that she would have already done it by now... it's like the "Maria Callas" movie, it's been many years since she keeps telling she wants to do this, but the moment never arrives! And somehow now it looks as if she doesn't think about these projects with the same interest anymore :innocent:

Glad to see that I have revived the topic about Celine hopefully doing a Spanish album. The more we talk about it the better we can make it happen ;)

I would be really happy if at least we have one Spanish song included in her new English album. Fingers crossed!

This thread won't make it happen...

As nice as a Spanish album would be I don't think its necessary or a priority for them (clearly). And Javito earlier you remarked that it would be something she hasn't done yet and would be different than the material she gives us in French and English (the ballads, the long and high notes, ect.) I disagree with you it would be the same style of music she sings and is known for just instead of being in French or English it would be in Spanish.

Of course it would be something she hasn't done yet, Céline hasn't ANY spanish album in her discography, that's pretty clear!!! :giggle:  And that would be obviously something new, the simple fact of having a full album to add to her discography in a third language, in contrast to the long list of english albums, several french albums repeating with JJG... :thumbsup2:. Same as happened when she recorded the Christmas album in english, the Miracle project for babies, or if she were to record a full album dedicated to a specific style like the jazz album, a dance album. Each of these things would be something different, but singing in a new language would make this album unique and special.

And about the style, how can you say it would be the same Céline? Is the same Céline the one in Taking Chaces than in the "Celine Dion" album?  :giggle: We don't know what styles of music she would sing if she were to do it, but there are certainly many spanish and latin music styles which she has never touched and could do when recording in spanish (boleros, tangos etc) and that again would be something totally new and refreshing for her

Here is a quote you said: "Maybe more guaranteed that another english or french album which offers just more of the same we've seen for the past 30 years" implying that all of her material is "more of the same"

No, I think she won't and besides a spanish album is totally not needed. Céline is already unique singing in french and english, it's enough!

Yes, because I'm talking musically and musically she rarely offers something different. She rarely tries new sounds and new styles. Only few albums and songs broke the rule in her discography, like Taking Chances, which included a more edgy sound which we didn't heard since the Unison days, or A New Day Has Come, which arrived as a breath of fresh air after so many albums full of ballads and similar styles in the 90's.

In her french discography, "more of the same" means that musically all her latest albums are very similar, the only exception I find is 1 Fille & 4 Types, which delivered a country/western sound not heard before in any of her previous albums with JJG. Now with Sans Attendre we had a great album again, but you can't say its something new that she hadn't done before in terms of the music and the sound. That's why I say its "more of the same".

So, only if she were to record an english/french album today with a totally different sound (like Taking Chances was), or an album dedicated to a specific music style, you could surely say she's offering something new. But according to the samples we've heard of Water And A Flame, At Seventeen and Unfinished Songs, its pretty obvious she's not bringing something she hasn't done before, in terms of sound and music. We've heard her like this a gazillion times before, and those arrangements have been heard in her songs since ages (not to mention that Unfinished Songs sounds like That's The Way It Is, a song which dates back from 1999 :innocent: ).

That's why, *in my opinion*, an album in spanish would break all this monotony, for several reasons:

1) Because it would be something new, for her and for her public, and it would be something challenging for her. Céline loves new challenges. She would work hard to make it sound just GREAT.

2) Because producers would surely come up with different styles of spanish and latin music, which again, something that next with her voice singing in a new language, would make the songs sound just different from the rest.

I hope I have clarified now what I mean when I say that another english/french album is usually "more of the same". We all know that Céline stays always in her comfort zone, the only recent time she went out of it was with the Taking Chances album :thumbsup2: That's why I think that recording an album in spanish would allow her to escape from her comfort zone for once, both musically and artistically, and that's something she needs SO BAD today. In fact that's one of the reasons why I think they're struggling with this english album, because they don't know what to do to make her sound new and different from her previous albums. That's the problem when you have a loooong career with so many albums released, that is hard to offer and surprise with something new. And a spanish album would definetly do that

Javito, agreed about everything in your last post. B)  I'd only add no. 3 to your list.

3) Celine would finally visit South America (it's such a huge music market, still sort of unexplored by her) and promote the album there. :)

If only she would do it... There's something I don't get about her when she says that today she sings just for pleasure and for fun, not because she needs to. So how come is that she hasn't recorded this spanish album already? Does she need to keep releasing the scheme of english album-french album-english album-french album for the eternity?

She contradicts herself many times with this... if this spanish album is still something she wants to do and singing is only for pleasure for her today, what she's waiting for?

What I fear is that she no longer has any dreams and wishes in music today :ermm: (however there's always time to keep doing the same songs in her concerts year after year after year :angry2: :pinch: :glare: ¿¿¿¿????)

And this leads to another question: how come is that she doesn't sing a spanish song in her Vegas shows, given that surely there are cents of spanish-speaking people in her audience every night? (however she found appropriate to include a napolitan song during A New Day... :wtf: ) That's another thing I find inexplicable! :pinch:

If someone here has an answer to these questions please tell me because I'm totally in the dark with Céline and René about this LOL. They're like an enigma many times, and contradict themselves a lot, with the things they say and then the things they do. If only one journalist asked her these BIG questions in one of the dozens of interviews they do asking always the same questions since 2002!

Water and a flame is actually something new. That song is a nice combination of soulpop and blues, unlike anything else she did before. Maybe you can't hear it because Celine's voice is too strong for the track. At 17 is a timeless classic. Unfinished Songs is pure pop song in rank of Coulda Woulda Shoulda, Stand By Your Side. But lyrics make this song different. It's pure and relaxing yet lifting song about changing your life, brining joy into it. Break Away is a song that would fit Celine Dion album, nothing new just like Didn't Know Love

We both know what Celine would answer if a journalist ever asked her about doing a Spanish album:

"Oh yeah! Anytime, I'm ready! :D "

Speak of the Devil! :o And Mariah records again in spanish...

Céline you'd better include a spanish song in the english album now!

Needless to say this, but this is again a proof of how a clever promotion for a comeback should be done, and shows also that Mariah is not stupid at all when it comes to playing her cards. First album in 4 years, and for the first single she releases also a spanish version. Well done!

No, Celine doesn't need tot include a spanish song just because Mariah does. I don't see why she should include a spanish song on an english album at all. Yes she did it before, but she already sings in French an English. That should be good enough. There are so many artists that sing in only one language, we can count ourselves very lucky with Celine already!

Is it never good enough? Do we always need more? No, I don't think so and I don't expect and that's fine.

No, she doesn't need to record a spanish album, but she neither needs to keep recording a french album after an english album, and then another french one and so on forever  We're not talking about needs, we're talking of doing it first because SHE said she would love to do so, and 2nd because it would be something refreshing for her career :bye1:

It looks you forget that is Céline herself who has told several times she would love to record an album in spanish, and that's the most important thing to keep in mind here. It's not a whim of us, its a desire she has expressed many times.

Nobody said Céline has to sound like this s***, donpi, because yes, I agree its s***, but that's Mariah's field. If Céline were to record in spanish we know she would deliver something worth and of quality, like she's done before :thumbsup2:

Listening to Pastora Soler quite very (too) often  it struck me that Spanish language and high / long notes (the ones Celine's capable of "producing") definitely go together.

I don't know how to explain that but these two 'things' seem to belong together. Just my random thought (maybe a bit silly one). :-D

Proof - Demasiado amor by Pastora Soler.  Imagine Celine singing something like this one. :w00t:
