Yes, she did back in 2003 but the song never was released on "One Heart"....

I don't think she should do a whole spanish album. She should stick with French and English.

I'm not for an entire Spanish album either, sorry to Spanish people here - no offense intended. :flowers:

It's just not my fave language, I prefer her to sing in French... ;)
I would though like her to record some stand-alone songs in Spanish or, even more, in Italian!
Than, I love to hear when she sings in Japanese, aww!

As for an entire album, I don't think it's a good idea as she it's not her native language nor a language she speaks fluently (like English). She may have perfect pronanciation in Spanish (what has been confirmed by some Spaniards here) but I have a doubt about the passion and real emotions when you sing a song in a language you don't really speak/understand. Spanish may be quite similair to Franch and I bet it's way easier for her to understand Spanish than for me, for instance, where I'm Polish native, lol, but it's still a foreign language and it's not equal with French as for her.

Shall I recall that english wasn't either her mother tongue and she didn't understand a single word when she began singing in english during her 1985 tour! And look where she is now :). The best selling female singer of Music History, with millionaire sales of her english albums :)  :thumbsup2:

Sorry but I couldn't disagree more with you on this Dionesque :P

I respect your point, Javito, and of course I know the history of her beginnings in English-speaking career. ;P

Still Spanish is a bit different to me. Canada, after all, is English-speaking in its majority, even if Céline grew up in the French-speaking province + US is close enough there. :) And you can't come over English if you're listening to pop music on the radio, no matter where in the world you live! :P
I was singing to English songs myself at quite young age even before I started learning English at school either, lol... ;)

Of course a huge part of this world is Spanish-speaking but this Céline isn't that close to this language as she is to English and as she was to English already in her early years of career. I bet they hardly played Spanish songs in Québec radio back then (and they probablz hardly do so today either...).
Which is, of course, sad at some point - I'd love to hear more Spanish music over here in Germany as well, for  example I love Tamara's music a lot! And there are many other good Spanish artists that stay unknown in the other countries. I have some mp3s of a nice group from Spain, Oreja de Van Gogh or something like that, no idea if they are any famous in Spain or Latin countries but I think they are pretty good musicians.

Oops, I went too much off-topic, sorry, lol!... :whee:

Actually no, they diddn't - sorry to disappoint you. ;) At least not like you think: in  the radio, on TV etc.
They "arrived" to me only thanks to an old Spanish friend of mine (whom I haven't heard from for ages now, sadly), I guess he once recommended me that group or I found it myself back in early 2000s when I used to spend a lot of time on AudioGalaxy and also used to meet people there (I met that guy there too), lol... ;P

Than, I love to hear when she sings in Japanese, aww! ( i am refering to Dionesques comment)
You refered to Be the man   , or she has recorded another, besides when singing (a very short phrase) with Ito Yuna at the end of a world to believe in, live in tokyo. And i think she recorded To love you more firstly in Japanese?????? :hmm:
And yes, i like how Celine sings in Spanish, and she should record one entirly; she would conquer more intensely the Spanish market.

It's an interesting idea, I think it'd like it. I hope she'll catch up on those Spanish lessons from 2000! For me it would be harder to relate to the songs though since I speak like 3 words of Spanish...

Because spanish is spoken by more than 250 million people and it's the second most important language after english. More people will know about Céline.

luislovesceline, she recorded 2 full songs in Japanese: "Be The Man" and "A World To Believe In ~Himiko Fantasia~" (this is Celine's solo version in Japanese, so far released only in Japan). I don't know about a Japanese version of "To Love You More" sang by Celine, I only know about covers by some Japanese singers.
Than she sung partially in Japanese on the duet with Yuna Ito and she also sang a Japanese song called "Watashi ha totemo shiwase ne" (or something like that) at her concert in Tokyo on 1997.
So, as you see, there are quite a few examples where we could hear Celine singing in Japanese.

But ok, this topic is about her singing in Spanish, not Japanese, so... :flowers:

Natalie Cole is releasing her first ever Spanish language album ("Natalie Cole en español") and the reasons she's given to explain why she decided to record in a language she doesn't speak remind me of something Celine said years ago. Natalie says her father recorded albums in Spanish because "his love was to reach the masses. His love was to sing from his heart to all kinds of people. He didn't care where it was, who it was, and that's my gift as well. That's what I love doing."

I remember when explaining why she decided to learn English, Celine said the same thing. She wanted to reach as many people as possible. And we know she started taking Spanish lessons years ago but had to stop them when her son René-Charles was born.

I still believe Celine has the desire to record an Spanish album, but her family duties and French/English careers don't give her much time to learn more the language and maybe record a full album. We will be lucky if "Water and a flame" includes one song in Spanish (fingers crossed).

But I think she still has many years to fulfill her Spanish dream. Natalie is 63 years old, Celine is 45. Of course I hope she does a Spanish record much sooner than when she's over 60, but I really think a Spanish Celine Dion record will eventually be recorded.

Here you have Natalie's recent interview:

http://www.etonline....anol/index.html

And here you can listen to Natalie's new Spanish duet with her father the late Nat King Cole (it's beautiful):

Now this would be a new challenge in her career, something that would take her career a step further. But its sad it seems she no longer has new ambitions other than increasing the number of shows she is doing in Vegas.

Céline has always wanted to record a full spanish album. Christina Aguilera did it with great success and without speaking the language.
That's why she's recorded in spanish in many different occasions...

- Amar haciendo el amor
- Sola Otra Vez
- Aún existe amor
- Mejor Decir Adiós
- Todo Para Ti
- Sabes cómo es el amor (unreleased)

+ her spanish lessons while she took her break in 2000

SOLA OTRA VEZ was a great hit in latin america and Spain, and it's one of the top choices for auditions in reality shows!

I don't get this thing of spanish cd's sang by english people... normally the lyrics are so dumb and it really sounds horrible... "Amar haciendo el amor" specially... "Sola en mi silencioo.. andaba en la ciudaaaaaad.. " :wtf: I think we have some good spanish artists singing in spanish (both in latin america or spain) so why do we need to hear Celine in spanish... I prefer her in french/english...

Because she's probably the only non-spanish speaking singer who has recorded in the language with the best results?

Her pronunciation is amazing, for someone who doesn't know the language. All the other big names in the music who have ever tried, it has been mediocre, if not awful (Mariah Carey, Madonna, even Whitney Houston...).

I'd say that even Céline sings in spanish better than JLo, and that's much to say for an artist who has latin origins and supposedly has spanish as her mother tongue :innocent:

(watch here how Jennifer struggles with her spanish... LOL)

I'd surely enjoy a Spanish album from Celine, would be something fresh & different. Much better than recording old english covers, anyway.

That's the point. At this stage of her career, she has done so many albums, and many times the same kind of songs, that for the new english album they should have asked themselves: "what else can we do that we haven't done before?" "do we have to come back with more of the same, or do we have the chance to bring something completely new?" And here's where the spanish album, the dance album, or whatever other projects that you imagine could have been proposed, as long as they were NEW things she has never done before. And here is where the artistry would shine again in her career. Yes, she can deliver another english album with great songs, great ballads and belting amazing high notes, but... is it needed? Don't we have enough of that already? Wouldn't be much better to do something different for a change and break the rule of english album/french album/english album/french album that she has been doing for 30 years?

That's why I'm worried about the upcoming english album. Thank God that they apparently dismissed the idea of the Vegas covers, but now that we are going to have original songs, to what point is it going to be something new? Will it really contribute to her english discography, or it will be more of the same we've seen before -ballads, belting notes, etc?

Don't get me wrong, I'm more than happy that she's recording so many new and original songs and that we don't have the Vegas covers (that would have been the WORST option for this comeback album!), but will she surprise again with it? Because that's the question, it's all about that. Will she move the public again with more english recordings, or will the public say "ermmm it's very good, but I think we have heard her sing like this before in other songs". And that's a reaction that a spanish album wouldn't produce, that's sure. Because it will be something completely NEW in her career ;)

It's like the second Vegas show she's doing. She wanted to return there and repeat again, but has this show caused the same reaction as "A New Day"? No, not at all. Because it wasn't something new. People already knew what she was doing there, even if the show is a different show. A full orchestra is not enough to mark a difference (especially when there are songs where you don't notice the presence of the orchestra compared to previous versions of the songs). So, the same happens when she brings more music, and especially after so many albums that she has recorded. She has set herself the bar very high, but she has to challenge herself and deliver something really new, not more of the same. That's where the success of ANDHC was, because it was a kind of album she had never done before, including many upbeat songs and so many different styles. That's where success is hidden.

I don't know what they'll have in store, but surely a spanish album would have been something to be excited for, because it would mark another step up in the ladder. Same as with a full album with a specific style, like dance, jazz etc.

I know Celine has recorded 3 Spanish songs: "Aun Existe Amor", "Sola Otra Vez" & "Amar Haciendo El Amor" and i know she wants to record a spanish album as a thank you to her spanish speaking fans but will she ever record one? She mentioned her wish to learn spanish in Billboard Music Awards Latino in 2002 where she performed "Aun Existe Amor" and won a award for "My Heart Will Go On"
I don't want to disappoint you but if she records an entire Cd in Spanish is more because it's a very big market than to thank her spanish fans. In a 1996 interview she said that at the begginning of 2000 she would do a Berlitz school to learn spanish, as she did for english. And after the same with italian and german. Honestly i think that with children and Vegas shows learning languages was not her top priority!! What she is doing now ( one spanish song on Cd, chinese song in concert, saying hello in different languages during tour)  fans appreciate, everyone is happy. It the 60.s and 70.s singers recorded in several languages for each market they targeted ( johnny hallyday, Mireille Matthieu, Julio Iglesias, Nana Mouskouri etc.) it.s a lot of work , a lot of promotion and a lot of money whereas an american singer goes international with english only. SO for René if Céline got american successful she will get international succes in the same time. Kill two birds with one stone !

Natalie Cole has recorded her first Spanish album and she doesn't speak the language. So no need for Celine to learn Spanish as she did with English. She has recorded many songs in Spanish already and, as Javito has said, her pronunciation is great, much better than many non-Spanish singers who have recorded in the language. Also, Spanish is the second most spoken language in the world after English, so if Celine has success in French, she can also have a hit with a Spanish album.
