I was trying to explain to someone what "records" were today.

Yeah I still own some of those things also known to some as "licorice pizza"!

What's really odd to me is that I still think of CD's as fairly new but they are TWENTY-FIVE years old now!

And from what I've heard CD's are not long for this world.

I remember my parents 8 tracks...I think they still have them!

OMG eight tracks! One of my parents car's had one and the thing that used to drive me crazy was that you could never get to any specific song on the tape. You had to press this button and it would go to one of four sections on the tape. So if you wanted to here a particular song you had to wait until it came up on that part of the tape!

Yup I remember those too. I used to have a small, portable one. Reel to reel tape recorders were and still are really high quality tape machines. There is still a Swiss company, Nagra, that makes them since they are still used. They are not cheap though.

What I remember most about my little one was the tape getting stuck and breaking and then taping it with scotch tape

Yeah they were a pain to use since you had to thread the tape through these various spindles and if the tension was not right the tape would break or come loose. Ahh those were the days!

Gosh... my Dad still has (and uses) a reel to reel.  
Of course he is 75, so now I don't feel so OLD!!

Now if I would only get out of the DARK ages and update my truck's stereo from a cassette player!  

Despite all the new technology, I think tapes have a longer life span than CDs or DVDs will ever have?!  
Movie studios are STILL using film to make movies, aren't they!

I always thought that cassettes were great! I recently got rid of all my old ones from when I taped albums but they still sounded good.

Movie studios still use film BUT they are going digital. In fact a lot of the movies you see at the theatre are now projected digitally, in other words, no old fashioned big reels of film.

By the By Byu...I'm sure YOU must know this but the Smurfs turned FIFTY recently. One thing I did not know is that they were created in Belgium!

I'm not quite as old as my namesakes, but YES, I knew they were created by Belgian, Peyo.  I used to have a HUGE Smurf collection, but got rid of most of it... so I could afford my Céline collection.
