CRIA (Canada) counts every disc separately. So On ne change pas (2 disc CD) sold 150.000 copies in Canada. But because it was double CD album CRIA did this: 150.000 x 2 = 300.000 and certified this album 3 x platinum.

But seriously, the best selling albums these days sell max 10 millions copies. To sell right now 20 millions or more is impossible. Times have changed.

No,
the only Sony's statement was from the end of 2002: they said ANDHC sold over 8 millions copies worldwide.

Usher's previous album approached Diamond certification too!!

Shania is a really good seller. It was already certified 11xPlatinum in 2004. Do you know how much her "Greatest Hits" sold worldwide? It was certified 3xPlatinum in 2004 and 6xPlatinum in Canada in 2004. So that's 3.600.000 in USA and Canada alone.

Looking back over this thread it's interesting to note that in the UK whenever she hasn't been here to do promotion (and therefore Sony don't bother) her singles have never done that well but when she does come here she gets great chart positions.

Her only decent charting since 1999 was with A New Day Has Come at #7 and guess what, she was in the country promoting that! Promotion = sales in the UK it would seem.

Absolutely agree.  In person promotion makes the world of difference in the UK. Even "A New Day...Live In Las Vegas" charted highly here without her being here!  

Remember back in 2002 TOTP was still about and she made a few appearances on that as well as various interviews on VH1 etc.

I think you got the certifications a bit wrong. i believe that international records become gold with 10k copies, platinum with    
20k copies and 2x platinum with 40k copies (half the copies that greek records must sell to gain the same certifications)

I wondered about this so I checked and it seems each disc is counted as 1, so for every copy a double album sells it is counted as 2 which would explain this, here us the criteria:

Quantity:
500,000 units. Package must include two or more Cds (or its tape and album equivalent.)

She has sold around 50 million albums in USA or even more.
She was about 41 million before releasing A new day has come
Between 2002 and 2007 she has sold 10/11 millions

Now she is 51 aproximatelly

Her shipments are for 5.5M. If the album would have had only 1 CD, Up! would be certified for 5XPlatinum, maybe 6XPlatinum but never Diamond.
