I have a Canon XH-A1 for a year know and for some reason the program I used is having troubles with recognizing my camera... I'm using HDVSplit for importing the movies but the only thing I get is "camera not recognized or connected"... After a reboot it recognizes the cam but only the first time and when I'm starting capturing the images it starts and stops... I'm currently using the video importer from Windows itself but I don't know if the images are resized to SD or that they remain HD afterall, every piece of software i'm installing is seeming to resize the movies and I don't want that to happen... HDV was the right tool but that don't work anymore... Stupid Windows Vista, with XP I don't have that much trouble (but unfortunately my second (new) laptop doesn't have a firewire connection (it's a EeePC) and one of my desktops (the one with Firewire) is currently in repair Any suggestions for other software? Thanks! I use HDVSplit myself without any issue. If it worked fine before, I think it's the firewire cable problem. Maybe you can try with another cable first. Thanks, I managed to import my movies through the windows video importer but I'll get a new cable tommorow, it can indeed be a cable problem since it had some issues with that program also... I figured out the problem with the SD/HD also... I've used my camera the last time during a concert which I recorded but my cam was also connected to a computersystem and screen projectors but those only accepted regular input instead of HD and the camera switched automatically to SD But for a regular DVD is SD more than good enough.
