What I loved about this interview was the fact that the guys were impressed with Celine and René too. They said Celine and René are very polite, they care about people and they are very down to earth, very nice people. They offered Celine Belgian chocolate and she was delighted

For me it's an anthem, it's a great classic of my repertoire. I see it as one of

the best French songs. I don't say this pretentiously but I really believe it.

It's an extraordinary song and I have to tell you that every night, at the

United States, for an American audience I sing in French PQTME. The

audience reacts to it even without understanding the lyrics. The emotions

exist through the silence, through the music and the words. It's my anthem.

 

 

What was the best thing JJG brought to her

 

Another way to interpreter, another way to sing. It's impossible not to love

JJ. He is a brother to me. I knew him for a long time even before we met. I

really liked his talent and when we started working together I knew what

to expect, I knew he was a very nice and relaxed guy, . I was never

disappointed, it was a very good meeting and very touching. He is a very

talented and passionate man. We went to the studio when he suggested. He

is not someone who imposes his views. He has is own way of suggesting the

things and I was very touched by this. The first song he showed was

PQTME and it was very strong. It was the beginning of a great adventure.

 

About her childhood dreams

 

It was born with me. I was up on the kitchen table when I was 4 or 5 in

front of my brothers and sisters and I danced for them every night and I

sang for them and I sang with them every night. Every time one of them got

married I'd sing there. There was never a moment in my life when I said: I

know I'm gonna sing. It was natural for me. It was always a part of me.

One day my mother wrote my first song "Ce n'était qu'un rêve" I was 12.

My brother and I sat down at the living room and I was not thinking:

Maybe this song will open doors for me and I'll start a career. It was

never on my mind. While I was writing the song with my brother I was

living this moment of happiness. And I just trusted. We sent the tape to

René Angélil then we got his answer. I was never jumping up and down

because we had news from René Angélil. I guess I knew it was meant to

be. I'm a believer. I believe in the people around me, I believe in

happiness, I believe in life, I believe in myself, I believe in the people I

It's like a prayer. Even if you have a very busy life... when you travel a lot,

you work a lot, you are in front of the cameras everyday... after 25 years

doing this job I feel like I'm in a tourbillion. Sometimes I get out of it and I

feel confused... especially today when I realise all the luck that I had.

When I was 15 I didn't realise it, when I was 25 I could see a bit of it. But

now as a mother and a woman almost 38 years old I realise the luck that I

have and the happiness of living this life. But at the same time I realised of

the dangers out there for our lives. We are not safe. There are still wars

out there. We realise this especially when we raise a child. We wanted to

change everything for our children. S'il suffisait d'aimer is like if everyone

wanted to stop it and just share love this would be the end of the wars. So

for me this song is a prayer, a great wish.

 

About Sous le vent.

 

I'm so lucky because we shared great moments. There were so many great

moments. If I only had one of these moments in my life I would have been

fulfilled. You already talked to me about many songs and there are so

many... sing with the people we love, sing with the people who love to sing

as much as we do...

I had seen Garou for the first time in Paris at Notre Dame de Paris.

Discovering him and his great talent on stage really touched me, I was very

impressed. I met them afterwards and I was charmed. Sharing with him the

thing we most love was a great gift.

 

 

About being back in Europe

 

The best moments of my career I spent here. I'm not saying this just

because I'm in France. People react in a different way. When I'm in Japan

they react in their own way, their own culture. The people in France react

enormously. They sing with you, they breathe with you. There are so many

reactions and vibrations and they don't hold it back. For an artist to go on

stage and feel that not only people are there but they share it with you... it's

one of the greatest gifts. We say "good-evening" and they explode! It's a

lot of emotion for an artist. I have so many beautiful emotions. I have a

special bond with Belgium because I lived with you. You have an

extraordiny audience. I have this special bond because I lived with you

more than a month. Every night the fans were waiting for us, no matter

what time it was, even if it was raining, even if it was cold. Belgium became

family to me. We have a special bond.

 

About Vole (Celine dedicated it to 2 little girls who were murdered in

Belgium, I remember seeing this in the news, very sad story it)

 

It was very emotional for me to interpreter this song again. I'm touched

that people understand and associate this song... yes, there are pains and

tragic moments... we, the ones who love so much to sing, we want to be in

everyone's life in different ways. I love to sing because I love to express

myself but I also love to be in everyone's life. I think that music is a

therapy. When we are happy we want to express it, we want to celebrate

it with the songs we love. We choose happy dynamic songs. When we

loose someone or when we are troubled or we live emotional moments we

can't express ourselves because the pain is too strong, we don't find the

words... I was touched that people asked me too and associated this song

with such a big loss and pain. We all have to live moments like this, we

loose people we love. Having the chance to see people taking this song to

help them go through hard times... I'm happy for doing it. In the beginning I

did this song for me because I was living a hard moment with the loss of

one of my nieces. I sang it for her telling myself I was not the only going

going through things like this. And after that day a lot of people talk to me

about Vole. The whole album is so close to me, to share these emotions is

so great.

 

Her feelings about showbiz after having RC.

 

I did not know anything else than showbiz but I never lived inside of it. It

means that I loved to do this job but I never wanted to be a part of it like

going out at night, having friends in showbiz. There are just people that I

work with and I respect them so much. But I do what I love, I share

words, stories, thoughts, dreams, music and songs but when the curtains

falls I go back to who I am. I never leave behind the person I am. I had

the luck of always being myself through the years. I hope it doesn't sound

pretentious. The support and love that I had from my family from the

beginning until now it's the real things in life. And now I raise my son.

Maybe in my mind I thought: I know nothing else than showbiz, how will I

raise a little boy? But when we do the real things, when we are honest to

ourselves and the others... this is all we want to teach to our son: the real

things in life.

 

What left a mark in her life

 

A lot of things left a mark, starting with my mother who gave me her time

to help me making my dream come true by writing my first song. It was the

beginning of the big dream. Being with René who always chose the best

for me. I realise even more today is great talent and it's way of choosing

the best things and saying: this would be interesting but not the best thing to

do. Sometimes he should have done it because he needed money to

survive and he passed by so many things he could have done.

Of course, Eddy Marnay... he will be forever my father in this job. Eddy

Marnay was a great man. He wrote the most of my French repertoire. Of

course we have Luck Plamondon too, JJ Goldman and so many. I could

name so many.... the Stade de France, a stadium in Belgium, all the

stadiums in general, the people who wait for me in front of the hotel. There

were so many different moments and emotions.

About taking care of her voice

 

I train my voice, I'll train it forever. Here I try not to train too hard

because of jet-lag, I can't break the voice. Sometimes I wish I was a guitar

and when my chords break I could change it for a new one. This is a

fragile instrument. A lot of people smoke. There are a lot of people

smoking on the backstage of TV shows and it's so hard because I'm so

protected in the United States. No one smokes in my house nor in my

backstage. We have humidifies everywhere. We get used to this

protection. After 3 years we come here for 5 days and we breathe the

smoke and we are affected by jet-lag and we must sing with other artists

on stage and share songs that we don't really know or that we won't sing

for a long time... it's so hard vocally. This is a muscle very fragile and when

it's tired even if my heart and soul wants to go on stage sometimes my

voice doesn't. I'm not different from the other singers.
