Ronny83 Posted October 18, 2005 at 12:00 PM Posted October 18, 2005 at 12:00 PM Label brings LaBelle to tears Joy gave way to rage and tears at Patti LaBelle's 60th-birthday party in the Bahamas last weekend. The R&B legend lashed out at Island Def Jam Chairman L.A. Reid for dropping her from the Def Soul label two weeks ago. "They have the right name," LaBelle, holding back tears, told guests at the Atlantis resort bash. "They must be deaf if they don't hear me." Patti's friend Ivana Trump had a succinct piece of advice: "[bleep] them ifthey don't appreciate you." All the same, Patti lost it again the following night at the 70th-birthday party for resort king Sol Kerzner. Her weeping caused a star-studded crowd to show its admiration by giving her a five-minute standing ovation. Reid said through a spokeswoman yesterday, "I am sorry that Patti feels that way. I have tremendous respect for her." LaBelle was also said to be heartbroken that Usher backed out of performing at the birthday extravaganza. A rep for the singer insisted yesterday, "Usher loves Patti LaBelle dearly and will always support her, however, he never agreed to appear on a television special." "That's BS," argued a source involved in the planning. "He knew from the start it was going to be on UPN" on Nov. 8. Despite Patti's heartache, she torched the house by reuniting with former groupmates Nona Hendryx and Sarah Dash for their first rendition of "Lady Marmalade" in 15 years. Also performing at the fete — organized by Gerry Inzerillo, Jack Sussman and Ken Ehrlich — were Nelly (dueting with Kelly Rowland), Ashanti, Celine Dion and Chaka Khan.Source: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/sto...8p-304013c.html So, this party will be televised on UPN on Nov., 8th. Here is the TV schedule: http://www.upn.com/shows/patti_labelle/ Céline is not listed, but maybe they'll add her later. Even Chaka Khan is not listed. The news of NY Daily has been edited today, so it's more updated than the schedule of the TV show. BTW, it should confirm Céline is at the Bahamas for vacationing. stevo Posted October 19, 2005 at 11:00 AM Posted October 19, 2005 at 11:00 AM From the one and only M aniac site- "According to the NY Daily News, there was Patti LaBelle's 60th-birthday party in the Bahamas last weekend organized by Gerry Inzerillo, Jack Sussman and Ken Ehrlich. Among the performing-guests there were Nelly (dueting with Kelly Rowland), Ashanti, Céline Dion and Chaka Khan! They will show few footages from this party during the one-hour special, AN ALL-STAR SALUTE TO PATTI LABELLE: LIVE FROM ATLANTIS, to air Tuesday, November 8, on the US channel UPN at 9PM, ET/PT." Surely Celine wasn't in the Bahamas? Was she? Unless she did a recorded message or satellite performance or summit-was Celine performing this weekend just past? I love reading that list of performers and seeing Celine's name there- I think her team are beginning a revolution...first the Luther tribute- Celine on that album makes me so proud- next she'll be duetting with Usher. I think she's becoming more 'credible' although it makes me shiver to say that as of course I think she's the best thing on earth.I'm rambling. But then I found this: From http://www.manhunt.com/news/stories/1129280543.html UPN AND ATLANTIS, PARADISE ISLAND RESORT IN THE BAHAMAS, JOIN IN THE CELEBRATION OF PATTI LABELLE'S 45 YEARS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY WITH "AN ALL-STAR SALUTE TO PATTI LABELLE: LIVE FROM ATLANTIS," TUESDAY, NOV. 8 AT 9:00PM ON UPN The Special Event Features Highlight Performances By Nelly, Ashanti, A Labelle Reunion And More Grammy Award-winning artist Patti LaBelle celebrates her 45 years in the music industry in the one-hour special, AN ALL-STAR SALUTE TO PATTI LABELLE: LIVE FROM ATLANTIS, to air Tuesday, Nov. 8 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on UPN.
