LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Pop star    Michael Jackson, who has been in seclusion since his acquittal on sex abuse charges, has written a song that he will record to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina, his publicist said on Tuesday.

 

Jackson will record the single, "From the Bottom of My Heart," within two weeks, and he plans to enlist other entertainers for the project, spokeswoman Raymone Bain said.

 

"It pains me to watch the human suffering taking place in the Gulf region of my country," Jackson, 47, said in a written statement. "My heart and prayers go out to every individual who has had to endure the pain and suffering caused by this tragedy."

 

He added: "I will be reaching out to others within the music industry to join me in helping bring relief and hope to these resilient people who have lost everything."

 

Jackson, who left his Neverland Valley Ranch in California for Bahrain after his acquittal on child molestation charges in June, will record the song on a label owned by Bahrain's crown prince, Bain said, and donate the proceeds to hurricane victims.

 

Bain said Jackson was hoping to repeat the success he had with "We Are the World," a 1985 charity single with dozens of the era's top recording stars that raised more than $60 million for Africa. Jackson wrote the song with singer    Lionel Richie

I think it's not right to do this from michael because he is in a position that looks for me that he wanna make himself look good again after what happened.

I think he's using the disaster to come back in showbizz after his last album flopped big time...

 

But maybe i'm wrong (i hope i am wrong) but it feels like this for me the first time i heard about it.

But on the other side i hope it's a beautiful song that sells alot for the people there.. because they need us and then I have to put my thoughts aside for these people!

Oh of course he is...with this tragedy there are gonna be a ton of washed up entertainers and politicians that are gonna ride this thing in an attempt to get back into the spotlight. If Celine does agree to this then all I can say to her is:

I'm sorry you feel that way. I know how you feel about that. Have you tried to record your song that you wrote for the victims of hurricane Katrina? I think it would be a GREAT idea if you recorded the song and let everyone here listen to it and tell you what we think.

 

Don't feel bad. We like you not because of your age, but YOU as a person. I need you to know that, okay?

It has nothing to do with your age. It's the fact that you're unknown. So work your #ss off putting your songs to melodies, make demos, and send them to every place you possibly can. THEN maybe you'll one day get a song to Celine or be able to put out a song when you want to. There's no point in complaining about it, or bringing it up twice in this thread.

I think he genuine also, afterall it's not like its the first time he had made a song like this after a tragedy.

 

I think Michael is one of the only ones that could pull something like this off. He is so well known in the Entertainment world (dispite his...um...mistakes) and everyone wants to work with him. He's the "king of pop" and even though I don't care for him anymore the man does and has always had talent. I hope Celine has a better part in this song than before.

Also joining Jackson will be retro-rocker Lenny Kravitz; rappers Wyclef Jean, Laryn Hill and Missy Elliott; R&B crooners Ciara, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Yolanda Adams, R. Kelly and Mary J. Blige; and 1970s soul icons the O'Jays, spokeswoman Raymone Bain said.

 

"Mr. Jackson is continuing to reach out to artists who would like to work with him on this project, which he humbly hopes will make a tremendous difference to all individuals who have been affected by this tragedy, Bain said.

 

Jackson, who raised more than $60 million for African famine relief in the mid-1980s with a campaign built around his anthem "We Are the World," announced last week that he had been moved by images of Katrina's devastation to write a song for the hurricane's victims.

 

Bain has said that the 47-year-old singer, who left his Neverland Valley Ranch in California for Bahrain after his June acquittal on sex abuse charges, will return to the United States to record the song, tentatively titled "From the Bottom of My Heart."

 

All proceeds will be donated to hurricane victims, she said.
