ashleylovesceline Posted September 7, 2005 at 06:20 AM Posted September 7, 2005 at 06:20 AM I normally wouldn’t post any negative comments that have been made about Céline, because that just seems to add fuel to the fire. But tonight Conan O’Brien, who seems to have a personal vendetta against our Céline made a comment I thought was totally disrespectful. In his open monologue he said, “Céline Dion appeared in an interview recently stating her views on President Bush’s slow response to the victims of hurricane Katrina. She said she could have easily driven them out of there just with a couple songs!” That’s not a direct quote, but it’s pretty close. First of all, jokes about this disaster in my opinion are completely wrong, and second of all, how could anyone (even if it’s partially your job) make light of her heartfelt speech on Larry King Live? LVPantsGirl Posted September 7, 2005 at 06:36 AM Posted September 7, 2005 at 06:36 AM It's just comedy. Just his job. Some people need a little laughter to heal. And as Céline always says: "You know you're doing something right..." when someone picks on you like that. I think it is just Conan's way of 'dealing' or helping others to deal. But In can see how to some it would seem very uncalled for, inappropriate or distasteful. Quote

starshenry Posted September 7, 2005 at 06:43 AM Posted September 7, 2005 at 06:43 AM That is a terribly rude remark It does not seem like a joke to me at all. Does that host do anything to help the victims? That is both disrespectful to her and to all the victims. Quote

nano Posted September 7, 2005 at 07:53 AM Posted September 7, 2005 at 07:53 AM Conan is Conan...his jokes are sometimes so stupid but I think this is his way to handle the situation Quote "Today, I’m a person on a path of connecting with my source and understanding that I am on the leading edge of creation.."
LD1977 Posted September 7, 2005 at 09:20 AM Posted September 7, 2005 at 09:20 AM Well, I heard these 'jokes' before... Nothing new here, I must say. Unfortunately the most rude jokes are made when disasters strike the world. Let's not give this more attention. He does not deserve it. CyberCat Posted September 7, 2005 at 03:00 PM Posted September 7, 2005 at 03:00 PM Well, sometimes I have to opportunity to watch O'Brian's late night show. And to be honest, it was not the first time when he made joke of someone, or someone's opinion, behaviour etc. I definitely did not like such comments earlier and now I think I will stop watching his show, though it was good for practising my English skills. fred Posted September 7, 2005 at 03:19 PM Posted September 7, 2005 at 03:19 PM Conan is super!!! And the comments weren't that totally bad, could had been worse - nd you know what they say: any publicity is good publicity. It wouldn't hurt her if he said something piositive but hey come on, it's his job... /fred Quote Peace and love to all.
Salla Posted September 7, 2005 at 03:25 PM Posted September 7, 2005 at 03:25 PM Yeah, his jokes can a lot of a time be a bit too much. We should send him hate mail and make him apologise Quote
Celine=Love Posted September 7, 2005 at 04:06 PM Posted September 7, 2005 at 04:06 PM Yeah, his jokes can a lot of a time be a bit too much. We should send him hate mail and make him apologise <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Ok, y'all...lets not go into hysterics here. Its Conan O'Brien. The guy has made a living for many years picking fun at celebrities, their lifestyles, and the things they say....just like Jay Leno has for so many years. Y'all do remember the old Saturday Night Live bit where they made fun of Celine? I thought it rude too until Celine brought the ugly little woman that played her in the SNL bit up on stage and let her joke around too. Look at it this way too: Some of what Celine said could be viewed as somewhat inflammatory. Its good to have some comedians out there that can joke about it and hopefully cool down some of the responses to those things. Quote "When I hear no violins..You play my every string..."
ashleylovesceline Posted September 7, 2005 at 08:06 PM Author Posted September 7, 2005 at 08:06 PM Ok, Ok. No hate mail, although at first it was a thought! My point was not that he was making fun of Céline, because by now we are used to letting comments like that go in one ear and out the other. The reason I was a little upset was because he was already making jokes about the hurricane and the people who are trying to help. I thought it was inconsiderate. And as someone said, it could have been worse. And you're right, it could have been. I did say it was his job, and the truth is Conan probably didn't even write this joke himself, we should probably be anger at his writers. Quote
Mozinha Posted September 7, 2005 at 08:59 PM Posted September 7, 2005 at 08:59 PM Conan O'Brien?Oh my... he tries so hard but he is not funny at all... I told you guys, not everyone will agree with her and will joke about it... but the point is: THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT HER Quote http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v487/welovecelinedion/howcute5gv2.jpghttp://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/d/4;10501;104/st/20080413/e/my+graduation/dt/4/k/f5ff/event.png "And really - isn't NOT caring about what others think of you the hallmark of a cool person?"

Koolan Posted September 8, 2005 at 05:03 AM Posted September 8, 2005 at 05:03 AM Conan is a well-respected host, he's just doing his job. Don't take it too seriously, he did go too far with this one but don't hate him just for that. Let the guy make his living, if anything, blame the writers. He's a funny person. Andy Posted September 9, 2005 at 03:04 PM Posted September 9, 2005 at 03:04 PM I think that it is absolutely not ok to joke about such serious topics. Even if it is his job to make jokes he should know that Quote http://people.freenet.de/celinecharmed/Charmdceline/Celine2.jpg
