Hurricane Katrina relief

As relief efforts begin in the areas hit by Hurricane Katrina, we urge you to please make a donation to the American Red Cross. By providing financial support, you’ll be helping the hundreds of thousands of victims of the tragic disaster. In addition to the Red Cross website, you can donate through Amazon.com and the iTunes Music Store. Our hearts go out to all of those affected.

Let's show our support like Celine. :thumbsup2:

Please support the forum by ordering everything through our special Amazon.com link

i've thought about making a donation, but i've heard that some people who collect the money just steal it after it's donated :ermm: Edited by celine_rules

That's not right. They should know that the money needs to go to a worthy cause like the American Red Cross.

I wish I lived near Houston so I could go and help. A lot of places around here are accepting food donations. ^_^

Just sending food is a GREAT help. Even dedicating a song to the victims is a GREAT help also.

Well I signed on that Oxygen thing to get people to sign for the campaign and today I was doing like some clothes shopping and the cashier said if I wanted to donate a dollar to the Hurricane relief fund I said yes so they took it out from the money. Then out of the goodness of my heart I gave a second dollar. So the whole day I kept saying I made a donation of 2 dollars and happy about it. I don't even have a lot to give but 2 dollars goes a long way. I will try to give to whoever is taking donations. I don't know I just feel bad for those over there. I don't want keep my mind over it but it's still sad and crazy that people are not getting help, people are dying, and we should do what we can. :)

If it is a legitimate organization, look at the annual report. It will show how much of the donations goes towards the cause and how much money goes towards workers or staff. Realistically, 100 percent of the money should be allocated to the relief fund, not given to employees of the institution.

One great organization is the Salvation Army-it gives 100% of the money to the people in the Gulf!

Habitat For Humanity is another good program that helps homeless people with housing. This will be crucial once the water, debris and body count  has finished.

Ex- president, Jimmy Carter has been involved with this organization for almost 20 yrs. This program is always looking for volunteers to help build homes- if you have the time, sign up and help with this worthy cause. People helped with rebuilding areas effected by the Tsunami from last December. http://www.habitat.org
