Blunt matches Dion chart double

Singer James Blunt has topped both the UK singles and album charts for a fifth week in a row, a feat last achieved by Celine Dion.

Her single Think Twice and album Colour Of My Love topped both charts simultaneously for five weeks in 1995.

Blunt's single You're Beautiful kept Daniel Powter's Bad Day in second place, while Back to Bedlam beat Coldplay's X&Y in the album chart.

Craig David entered the singles chart at number three and Goldfrapp at four.

Glam electropop

Soul star David's comeback single All The Way was followed by glam electropop band Goldfrapp's Ooh La La.

Belly Dancer by R&B star Akon entered the singles chart at number five, having topped the chart in May with his ringtone-sampling hit Lonely.

The Kaiser Chiefs' album Employment jumped one place to three, while Faithless' greatest hits album Forever Faithless dropped one place into the fourth slot.

Ex-British army officer Blunt took seven weeks to climb to number one with You're Beautiful, having entered the singles chart at number 12 in June.

From wikipedia:

James Blunt (born in Tidworth, Wiltshire) is a British musician whose debut album, Back To Bedlam, and single releases - especially number one hit "You're Beautiful" - brought him to fame in 2005. His style is a mix of jazz, rock and soul, and comparisons have been made between him and early Elton John. Along with the vocals of the album, Blunt plays: guitar, keyboard, marimba, acoustic guitar, classical guitar, Rhodes, organ, piano, 12-string guitar, Wurlitzer, church organ, pump organ, grand piano and Mellotron.

Before the release of his album, Blunt was a Officer with the British Army and served as a NATO peacekeeper in Kosovo, and was also on duty for the funeral of the Queen Mother on April 9, 2002, his duties included carrying her coffin.

James Blunt's debut single in the UK, "High," peaked below the Top 100 of the UK Singles Chart. However, the song was chosen to appear in a Vodafone commercial in Italy, and as a result ended up becoming a Top 10 hit in that country. His second single "Wisemen" improved upon that position with a #44 peak.

However, it was the third single "You're Beautiful" that became James' breakout hit. The song debuted at #12 in the UK, and demonstrated a rare trend of upward mobility on the UK charts, rising all the way to the #1 position, six weeks after its debut. The song also received massive airplay in the UK which was able to propel Back To Bedlam to #1 on the albums chart, with the special feat of unseating the record-breaking album X & Y by Coldplay from the pole position.

After the success of "You're Beautiful" in the UK, the song crossed over to mainland Europe, becoming one the biggest hits of summer 2005 across the continent. In the USA, "You're Beautiful" has not been released to radio, but despite that it is getting airplay at WPLJ, a prominent radio station in New York City.

The videos for all three of James Blunt's singles to date feature symbolism and dark imagery. In the video for "High," James is buried in a desert. In the video for "Wisemen," James is kidnapped and taken hostage. In the video for "You're Beautiful," James alludes to suicide.

Jazz is not really my thing.... maybe that's why I don't really know who he is.

Is James Blunt Finally Set To Be Toppled?

by Scott Colothan on 8/18/2005

Hallelujah, praise the Lord, according to midweek sales James Blunt looks is set to be toppled from the top of the singles chart this weekend.

But before you get too excited it’s those McFly boys who look likely to do the honours with their new track ‘I’ll Be Ok’.

Reports suggest that McFly are 10,000 sales ahead of James Blunt’s ‘You’re Beautiful’. This means it looks likely Blunt won’t be able to surpass Celine Dion’s record of the chart double for five consecutive weeks.

Elsewhere in the chart, Babyshambles look set to easily dent the top five with ‘f*** Forever’, while Justin Hawkins’ side project British Whale is at number six midweek with ‘This Town Ain’t Big Enough For The Both Of Us.’

I will be going to UK next month to continue my study. Hopefully, I will get to listen more Celine music when I'm there!

So suddenly, it's clear to me

Things change

Our future lies in here and now

We live it through somehow

Now the greatest reward

Is the love that I can give

I'm here for you now

For as long as I live

You made me who I am

J'aimerais tant savoir

Souffler comme le vent

Sur ton doux visage

Faire partir le noir, disparaître le temps

Casser les nuages

Parler même tout bas

Juste pout toi et moi

De petits riens

Mais là-bas

Au loin, tu nages...
