Peter Jennings, Dana Reeve & Bel Geddes

I understand most people don't like posting depressing topics like death, war in Iraq, or any type of illnesses, but it's a fact of life.

Sadly this week, Peter Jennings-well known Canadian/American reporter died of lung cancer. Smoked for many yrs, quit, but after 9/11 started again. He never completed his formal education like Céline(!). Jennings viewed learning essential and always had a suitcase full of books when traveling. He enjoyed working with children behind the camera and quietly created numerous charities.

Dana Reeve( Christopher Reeve's wife, aka Superman) divulged she has lung cancer-never smoked. Perhaps second hand smoke from singing in night clubs for many yrs( wonderful singer!) She is determined to be cancer free. Her strong will and positive attitude will probably get her through chemo treatments.

Barbara Bel Geddes http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8898185/ , the matriarch of the show Dallas died of lung cancer this week as well. She was in Vertigo with Jimmy Stewart and in other numerous movies and was on Broadway. A gifted and beautiful actress( when she was younger) was a recluse like Howard Hughes.

Three talented and unassuming people, although cancer has touched most families..

earlier this year my father was diagnosed with a similar type of cancer like René A. After months of radiation he is cancer free- he was lucky. There are so many people who aren't.

Hope I didn't put too many people to sleep :msn-tongue:

Yeah, it was very sad for Peter Jennings to go. Althought I don't watch his show often, he was a very pleasant person to see on tv. Peter looks younger than he really is.

Unfortunately most people who smoke here do not respect the ones who dont. They throw smoke on us, make us breathe it.... now we will be, most likely, the ones who will suffer from the problems latter.

I read in a website (I'd love to share it here but it's written in portuguese) that brazilian doctors and researchers found a cure for skind and kidney cancer. It's a vaccine made out of the cells of your own cancer. And it has sucessfully cured everyone who tested it and it's for sale already. It works but on the early and advanced stage of your cancer. It can save so many lifes and save poeple from so many traumas like loosing hair and get so weak.

"And really - isn't NOT caring about what others think of you the hallmark of a cool person?"

I heard about this on the radio on the way home from camp. I was so saddened. I always watched World News Tonight with Peter Jennings and am so shocked by his passing. I will always remember him, and miss him so much. God bless you Peter.

Sadly, this seems to be a universal problem if you don't smoke. I notice Europeans and Asians smoke more than Americans, although there seems to be a trend to stop smoking in Germany and a few other countries.

Unfortuantely, Philip Morris-the big cigarette corporation in the US sells more cigs in Asia instead of the US. IMO, Philip Morris are hypocrits despite their effort to discourage teenagers from smoking in the USA.

There have been studies indicating second hand smoke can cause asthma and other health related problems.

The vaccine to cure or slow down the process of cancer sounds interesting. I will do a Google search for an English explaination.

Thanks for the info :)

Well, here in Canada there are some cities and provinces that have smoking bans in all establisments. They're also considering making it illegal to smoke in cars, for the mercy of passengers and children who don't have a say. The smokers are fighting it, but I agree. I'm an occassional smoker, but I won't even smoke inside when I'm alone because I don't want the cats to get the smoke! I figure if I want a cigarette, there's no reason anyone or anything else should be poisoned along with me.

Cigarettes are a dangerous thing and, for anyone here who smokes, don't make others suffer. Keep your smoke to yourself, and DON"T SMOKE AROUND YOUR CHILDREN. Not even in the same house. Just picture your five year old with a cigarette in his hand. Nice thought, huh?

We were supposed to have these laws here but... oh well, people wouldn't respect it anyways.

We can't go out at night without coming home smelling so bad from all that smoke.
