I found this great review of the album on E-opinions:

 

To understand this CD it is quintessential to know Luc Plamondon. To know his brilliance. Luc Plamondon is a celebrated French songwriter who wrote several big French language rock operas namely Starmania and the more recent Notre Dame de Paris. Luc's music is of a darker more melodramatic tone. If you've never heard Celine's French language work you'll be surprised when you hear this album. About half of the songs on this disc are written specially for Celine, the other half are covers of songs Plamondon has used in his rock operas.

 

If you're worried about not understanding French don't be. I bought this album 4 years ago before I spoke any French at all and loved it all the same.

 

1. Des Mots Qui Sonnent (Words That Sound)

 

In this song Celine passionately begs her song writer to give words that sound (rhyme). She asks the writer for words to give meaning to her song. It's a fast number and a perfect opener for the album.

 

2. Le Monde Est Stone (The World Is Stone)

 

This is a melodramatic song where Celine sings about the coldness of the world she's trapped in. In the song Celine is searching for a ray of sunshine but unlike in the syrup drenched lurve songs of her English work, the song finishes on a more depressing note with the stanza:

 

J'ai la tête qui éclate (My head is exploding)

J'voudrais seulement dormir (I would like nothing more than to sleep)

M'étendre sur l'asphalte (I lay myself on the ground)

Et me laisser mourir (And leave me to die)

Et me laisser mourir (And leave me to die)

 

3. J'ai Besoin D'un Chum (I Need A Boyfriend)

 

Following the rather depressing but beautiful Le Monde Est Stone, J'ai Besoin D'un Chum is a light playful number. In the song Celine sings about her need of a boyfriend, and no one else in her life, because she's crazy about men. This song is a sort of satire of women who can't live without men.

 

4. Le Fils De Superman (The Son of Superman)

 

This is my favorite song on the album. Incredibly sad but very touching, the song is about Jean-Pierre a young boy who dreams of nothing else but being Superman and finally when his parents take him to Superman's city, New York, and he dresses up as his hero and jumps out of the window of his hotel to his death. The song's blend of reality with imagination and its warning of the dangers of obsession is especially poignant.

 

5. Je Danse Dans Ma Tête (I'm Dancing In My Head)

 

You won't sit still for this one! A fast paced dance song, this song is about a crazy future world where people are dancing in their heads. It's better not to try to understand it but just go with the flow.

 

6. Le Blues Du Businessman (The Blues of the Businessman)

 

This is a signature Celine power ballad. It's about a businessman who appears to have it all but inside he is unhappy because he wants more out of life, more than the business world could offer him. He wants to be an artist or an author, he wants to get away from the corporate life. He wants to experience life and not be constrained by society. It's a beautiful song, and for me as a future businesswoman it really hits home.

 

7. Piaf Chanterait Du Rock (Piaf Would Be Singing Rock)

 

In this high energy rock and roll song Celine asks the question, What if Edith Piaf were to be alive today? The answer: She's be a rock star. In this song aspects of Piaf's personal life and career are likened to the rock and roll world.

 

8. Un Garçon Pas Comme Les Autres (Ziggy) (A Boy Like No Others)

 

This is a song about unrequited love. In the song Celine sings about her love for a boy called Ziggy, except Ziggy isn't like other boys, Ziggy is gay. Celine imagines what it would be like to be involved in a romance with Ziggy but admits she has no chance.

 

9. Quelqu'un Que J'aime Quelqu'un Qui M'aime (Someone that I love, someone who loves me)

 

In this song Celine longs to love and be in love. It's a simple melody and very nice.

 

10. Les Uns Contre L'Autres (Some Against The Other)

 

In this song Celine sings about the contact between people and how in the end everyone is simply alone. However in this song alone isn't necessarily bad, it's more like a realization that in the end we;re all individuals.

 

11. Oxygène (Oxygen)

 

In this passionate power ballad Celine asks for oxygen, for air to breath just to get through the day.

 

12. L'amour Existe Encore (Love Still Exists)

 

This is a beautiful soft ballad and of the most known and celebrated songs of Celine's French language career. It has been covered by many other Francophone artists but none with the subtle emotion of Celine. The song is about finding love in a world of suffering despite all odds. This song feels like its the answer to Le Monde Est Stone. Even with war, even with disease, even with poverty, even with hate, love still exists. Not the sickening gushy type of love that is heard on songs like My Heart Will Go On but love among humanity.

L'amour existe encore, for sure! Its my all time favourite Céline song. I think its a special song because of the lyrics, its a song of hope and it comforts you! I LOVE IT!

Well, L'amour existe encore is included. And since the song are re-mastered we may even have a better audio quality for it. Of course, not that the quality of Dion Chante Plamondon was bad - but the entire album sounds a bit quiet without the use of equalizer on my system.
