New Album

One year after their last studio album, The Corrs are returning full circle with their latest album Home, to be released by Atlantic Records on September 26th.

As the title suggests, The Corrs are back to fond beginnings, defining a journey that began 15 years ago. It is a record that is held close to the bands’ hearts, compiled through a songbook of the late Jean Corr, and brought to life by the bands’ urge to bring new interpretations to traditional Irish songs.

It was Caroline Corr who first suggested a return to traditional form, since “everywhere we go in the world we are asked to do more Irish music.” Featuring the BBC Radio 2 Concert Orchestra and working with orchestral arranger Fiachra Trench and producer Mitchell Froom, who has worked with The Corrs on three previous albums, the band set out to create an eclectic mixture of songs and instrumental airs.

Recorded over six months, the making of the album became a journey in uniting both old and new. Traditional Irish songs were carefully chosen, and set to new arrangements, whilst remaining true and faithful to the core emotion of the originals. The mixture of traditional and contemporary, is one that is truly celebrated throughout Home. Whereas the predominately Irish songs are interpreted in a contemporary way, other songs such as ‘Heart Like A Wheel’, originally written by Anna McGarrigle, remain strongly Irish in sound and spirit. This spirit shines through in tracks such as ‘Buachaill On Eirne’ which is one of two tracks sung in Gaelic; a true testament to the integrity of this album, and its desire to bring together Ireland’s past, present and future.

The full tracklisting is as follows: My Lagan Love / Spancill Hill / Peggy Gordon / Black Is The Colour / Heart Like A Wheel / Buachaill On Eirne / Old Hag / Moorlough Shore / Old Town / Dimming Of The Day / Brid Og Ni Mhaille / Haste To The Wedding / Return To Fingall

I SO can't wait for the new album!! :w00t: :kicking:

And 'Return From Fingal' is on it! :D

Just 1 month away! B)

Message from Jim:

A belated thank you for all your kind birthday greetings. Can't believe I'm 41 years young already :-)

We're so looking forward to the release of our new album "Home". We put a huge amount of work into it and anyone we play it to loves it. I hope you all will feel the same. As I may have said before it's quite a departure as it consists totally of beautiful, mostly Irish cover songs. We've really gone back to our roots on this one as a lot of the songs on it we would have heard our parents perform years ago!  We're also looking forward to starting the promotion for it which will commence late August. We hope to get to see you over the coming year while we're doing this...

Bye for now...

Take care,

Jim.

Corrs - Presented with their awards in Dublin

The Corrs have been awarded honorary MBEs by Britain's Queen Elizabeth in recognition of their contribution to music and to charity.

The three Corr sisters, Andrea, Caroline and Sharon, and their brother Jim accepted their honours from the British Ambassador to Ireland, Stewart Eldon, at his residence in Dublin.

The Corrs have played concerts to raise money for various charities, including victims of the Omagh bombing, and are active on behalf of Concern.

Presenting the awards, Ambassador Eldon said that he was sure that The Corrs' fans around the world would be delighted to hear they were getting the recognition they richly deserved.

Sharon Corr said that it was surprising "to receive an honour from another country but, for us, it was very nice for the reasons that it was given and the reasons it was given were our contribution to music and voluntary works."

Irish pop band The Corrs have been awarded honorary MBEs by the Queen.

The group have been honoured in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the music industry and charitable contributions.

Each of the four-member band was given the MBEs at a ceremony in Dublin. The award is honorary because The Corrs are Irish.

The British Ambassador to Ireland, Stewart Eldon, presented the award to the pop stars, who are from the border town of Dundalk in County Louth.

"I am delighted that The Corrs' immense musical contribution has been highlighted in this way," he said.

"I am sure their many fans around the world will be delighted to hear that they are getting the recognition so richly deserved."

British honours are awarded "on merit for exceptional achievement or service to British interests", the British embassy in Dublin said.

They are awarded by the Queen on the advice of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The group have played charity concerts to raise money for the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle, victims of the Omagh bombing and the Prince's Trust, it said.

They supported the 2003 Special Olympics in Dublin and have been active on behalf of charity Concern, focusing on alleviating the situation of AIDS in Africa.

Corrs 'surprised' by honorary MBEs

(Monday November 07, 2005 01:20 PM)

The members of Irish band The Corrs have said they were thrilled to have been awarded honorary MBEs in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the music industry and charities.

Violin player Sharon Corr, who attended the ceremony at the British Ambassador's residence in Dublin along with her siblings, lead singer Andrea, drummer Caroline, and guitarist Jim, said it was great to have both their music and charitable work recognised by another country.

Sharon said: "I think it is quite an unusual thing. It is very surprising. When we were called about it, we were given no hint what the call was about."

She added: "It is also surprising to receive an honour from another country but, for us, it was very nice for the reasons that it was given and the reasons it was given were our contribution to music and voluntary works."

The siblings, from Dundalk in Co Louth, who first began performing together in the early 1990s, have played a host of charity concerts to raise money for the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, the victims of the Omagh bombings and the Prince's Trust.

Sharon said: "It is always a nice thing to hear and we were surprised it was so noticed."

British Ambassador Stewart Eldon presented the individual awards to each of the band members at his residence in Sandyford, Dublin.

He said the band really deserved the awards as they had used their music to reconcile people.

Corrs 'surprised' by honourary MBEs

By:Press Association

The members of Irish band The Corrs said today they were thrilled to have been awarded honorary MBEs in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the music industry and charities.

Violin player Sharon Corr, who attended the ceremony at the British Ambassador`s residence in Dublin along with her siblings, lead singer Andrea, drummer Caroline, and guitarist Jim, said it was great to have both their music and charitable work recognised by another country.

The siblings, from Dundalk in Co Louth, who first began performing together in the early 1990s, have played a host of charity concerts to raise money for the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne, the victims of the Omagh bombings and the Prince`s Trust.

The Corrs` blend of traditional Irish music and instruments with pop music has ensured them worldwide fame, with more than 30 million record sales.

The band were accompanied to the private ceremony by close family members and friends, including their father Gerry, manager John Hughes, Caroline`s husband Frank Woods, music promoter Denis Desmond from MCD, the band`s assistant Caroline Henry, and musicians Keith Duffy and Anthony Drennan, who have played with the band for 10 years.

Sharon, who is expecting her first child, said the band had considered the reaction of their family before accepting the honorary MBEs.

She said: "We definitely did think about it, we definitely would consider the reaction of people we care about to it, of course. I think for us, as a band, as musicians, music in itself is anti-discrimination. Music is about progression and about change with every phrase you change.

"Everything that we have done in our life has been about moving on and progressing in what we do and whatever we endeavour to do. I think for us, we have sold about seven-and-a-half million records in Britain alone.

"We never decided, when we had to sell our albums, what religious persuasion or what race should buy our albums.

That is up to everybody, it is non-discriminative, so I think this is given to us on behalf of the British public and for that reason we are very honoured by it."

About their new album Home, which was released in September, Jim said: "It is going great, it is going wonderful. I think we have superseded the sales of the last album."

He said the band were considering the possibility of touring a few select venues with the album.

Last week, The Corrs received a 10-year achievement award from Radio Barcelona in Spain.

The band have been working on behalf of the charity Concern to help focus people`s attention on the Aids problem in Africa, as well as taking on the role as ambassadors for the Nelson Mandela 46664 campaign.

Andrea, who was nominated for best actress at last weekend`s Irish Film and Television Awards, has recently wrapped up work on a supernatural thriller movie with the working title of The Thread, starring Saffron Burrows and Linus Roach.

The lead singer, who has also appeared in two Alan Parker movies, The Commitments and Evita, said: "We are thrilled as a band to be honoured in this way and you know that our music has been recognised in such a way, and our charity work has been."

The awards are conferred by the Queen, on the advice of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, and on people who have made an important contribution to British interests.
