Serenjesta Posted May 11, 2026 at 11:43 AM Posted May 11, 2026 at 11:43 AM (edited) ...so back in 1997, I won a competition through Team Celine to ask a question to Celine on what was called a Virtual Broadcast at the time. A live video these days. She had the The Reason makeup look and I'm pretty sure it was part of the promotion for Let's Talk About Love. About 10 or so other people also won the opportunity for the same broadcast. I was in England and Celine and the interviewer (whose name I just cannot remember) were in the US. I got a call from AT&T and held until it was my time. Needless to say it was the most exciting day of my life. At the time, you could watch it live on a computer but they weren't as prevalent as they are these days and I didn't have one. A friend of mine did and so he was able to download the interview on a zip file, or similar, and I watched it with my friends without absolute glee. For years I have scoured the internet to see if it exists and it's never come up. Has anyone got it? Someone must somewhere and I would be eternally grateful if I could get hold of a copy. I was quite cheeky at the time and said "Thank you for your answer. I've been accused of having a singing talent, so maybe we can do a duet someday!", which Celine replied "That'd be nice!" while raising any eyebrow, A very funny moment. Crossing my fingers here xx Edited May 11, 2026 at 12:01 PM by Davey84 Quote
Thomas Posted May 11, 2026 at 12:49 PM Posted May 11, 2026 at 12:49 PM Nice story, hopefully someone remembers this! What was your question? Quote
Serenjesta Posted May 11, 2026 at 01:04 PM Author Posted May 11, 2026 at 01:04 PM I asked her how she copes with her success and fame, essentially. She said it was the record company, the team around her, her 'usband (!) and the fans. 1 Quote

comingback Posted May 11, 2026 at 01:33 PM Posted May 11, 2026 at 01:33 PM I think I found it: Celine Dion Cyber-Cast" on 14. November 1997 Quote
comingback Posted May 11, 2026 at 01:37 PM Posted May 11, 2026 at 01:37 PM The event you are looking for is the "Celine Dion Global Cyber-Cast," which took place on November 14, 1997. It was a massive technological undertaking for the time, broadcast live from Sony Music Studios in New York City. Key Details of the 1997 Cyber-Cast The Launch: It celebrated the global release of her album Let's Talk About Love. The Platform: The interview was hosted on CelineDion.com and promoted heavily through AOL (America Online). Fan Interaction: Fans submitted questions via email and live chat rooms. Celine sat with a moderator and answered them in real-time while millions "tuned in" (though many faced slow 56k modem speeds!). Performance: In addition to the interview, she performed songs from the new album, including "My Heart Will Go On" and "Tell Him." Why it was a "Milestone" World Record: At the time, it was touted as one of the largest "Internet events" in history. Accessibility: It allowed fans from Japan, Europe, and North America to interact with her simultaneously, which was revolutionary in 1997. Titanic Hype: Because the movie Titanic was about to be released (December 1997), the chat was flooded with questions about the "theme song" that would soon become her signature hit. 1 Quote
Serenjesta Posted May 11, 2026 at 01:41 PM Author Posted May 11, 2026 at 01:41 PM That does sound right! Gosh, for something so big, why can't I find the video? "sob" Quote
comingback Posted May 11, 2026 at 01:43 PM Posted May 11, 2026 at 01:43 PM Sorry, there is no video. 💡 Fun Fact: Celine and the "Magic" of the Web During the 1997 Global Cyber-Cast, Celine was visibly fascinated by the technology. She was amazed that questions from fans in Japan, Brazil, and Germany were popping up on her screen simultaneously. At one point, she jokingly told the moderator that she was "not afraid of technology" as long as it acted as a bridge to her fans. She treated the computer screen almost like a window, waving at it as if she could see the millions of people watching her through their slow 56k modems. It was a very "Celine" moment—turning a cold technical setup into a warm, personal connection. Quote
Serenjesta Posted May 11, 2026 at 01:45 PM Author Posted May 11, 2026 at 01:45 PM There was a downloadable video at the time. A ZIP file maybe and someone has it somewhere. Considering the age of it, it is very unlikely it will come to light but I have to try. Quote

comingback Posted May 11, 2026 at 03:09 PM Posted May 11, 2026 at 03:09 PM (edited) I still can’t find a trustworthy source that gives an exact November 1997 date for the “Celine Dion Global Cybercast” at the Sony Music Studios in New York. After checking archived music-industry material from late 1997 around the release of Let's Talk About Love, the closest confirmed timeframe is mid-to-late November 1997, right around the album launch and Sony promotional events. The strongest clue is that Let’s Talk About Love was scheduled for release on November 18, 1997, and Sony was conducting major promotional activity in New York at that time. I could not verify a precise day such as “November 17” or “November 21” from any reliable archive. Edited May 11, 2026 at 03:09 PM by comingback Quote
Thomas Posted May 11, 2026 at 03:20 PM Posted May 11, 2026 at 03:20 PM Aww I miss when the internet was new and exciting, and things like this happened. For all that it would be so much easier and better these days with our high speed connections and HD cameras, it's also infinitely less likely to happen. It's like the internet is now taken for granted, it's not an exciting or innovative thing to have a video chat with fans even though we would all love it! Quote

It's weird, because I never ever heard or read about that event before (with that name you've mentioned) - and by that time in 1997 I checked on daily base all those great fanpages which collected all news (like of Celinemaniacs, and this other guy Sylvain Beauregard as well as "Celine Dion Through the World" and some others). And I've put all information into my compendium. So that's quite mysterious why no one by that time reported about it?? Quote

And I even remember my childhood, when we didn't even have a phone in our house. We had to walk 300 m to get to a public phone booth!! Quote

Oh, please don't tell me you take AI-results of "Chat GPT" as a trustful source!!!!!!! (95 % of AI-results are false! - but presented, as if they were correct - which is the most dangerous thing, as the majority of people don't take the time for a "cross-check", but simply believe). How can AI find something, where up til now there is NO information to be found about this mysterious "Global Cyber Cast" since decades on various Céline-fanpages!?!!
