  • CELINE: UNDERSTOOD (4 episodes)

Launches Tuesday, October 15

Celine Dion is having a moment. It’s not her first, and millions of fans are hoping it won’t be her last. While Celine’s international stardom seems obvious now, it was all so unlikely. In this new season of UNDERSTOOD, host and Celine expert Thomas Leblanc explores the surprising cultural, political and business alchemy that created one of the most enduring superstars the planet has ever seen. CELINE is the latest season of UNDERSTOOD, a podcast that takes listeners out of the daily news cycle and inside the events, places and cultural places you want to know more about.

Very cool. Thomas is a frequent guest on CBC when it comes to all things Celine. A true but also thoughtful and articulate fan. Don’t always agree with him, but always appreciate when he gets airtime to give Celine her flowers.

Also, this seems like a bit of a companion piece to the French CBC’s podcast about Celine from a few years ago, “Céline, c’est elle le boss” (https://ici.radio-canada.ca/ohdio/balados/8386/celine-elle-le-boss).

I've listened to the first episode, and I really enjoyed it. Not all "facts" are correct. But overall, it's very interesting to hear about Céline and her career in the light of 60/70/80s Quebec culture vs. the rest of Canada. And all the cultural changes that were happening then. And most of all, having it in English. Of course there is so much to say about the early years, that alone could be a 5 episode series. But for the 40 minutes that it was, it was very informative and gives a good overview for the non fan to get a better understanding of Céline! Looking forward to the other episodes!

Nothing really new I think.

Was nice to hear the story once again. And when you think of it back in those days without internet and all Sony did a very good job creating her career.

Something they definitely seem to lost the last years.
