Derek F. Posted April 20, 2023 at 10:55 PM Posted April 20, 2023 at 10:55 PM Celine's "I Surrender" needed an official topic where we could chat and express our thoughts about such an amazing song! This song just may be the most popular, well known song that was (shockingly) never released as an official single, by ANY female artist in music history! "I Surrender" has been proclaimed as one of Celine's best songs of her career by many, since the release of her timeless album "A New Day Has Come" in 2002. It is also considered one of the greatest ballads ever recorded. It's classic Celine in every way. It's got so many great aspects to the song- Big dramatic music that swells and builds through the song, amazing production, and jaw-dropping vocals from Celine! The song has some of the best versatility, and belted notes that she's ever served! Celine shows off so much of her impressive beautiful and powerful vocal range and abilities in this very loved, appreciated, and respected song! Many fans over the years have expressed that if "I Surrender" would've been released as an official single, the iconic song would have VERY likely topped the music charts around the world! It had so much incredible potential to achieve mind-boggling success! Like Celine herself said about "I Surrender"- "It's big, my gosh, I always need one of these." Here are some of the BIGGEST highlights that "I Surrender" has achieved to date- "I Surrender" live performance from "Live in Las Vegas- A New Day..." has achieved more than 50 million views on YouTube! "I Surrender" audio + lyrics fan made video has achieved more than 35 million views on YouTube! "I Surrender" official audio track has achieved more than 25 million streams on Spotify to date! "I Surrender" official audio on YouTube has achieved more than 4.3 million views to date! Amazing reception from music critics, with song reviews such as: "Dion does not disappoint with ballads (from A New Day Has Come album) like the rafter shaking 'I Surrender', where she sings of forbidden love amid a firestorm of utterly volcanic instrumentation", and "The album's bombastic, heart-pounding, signature Celine Dion ballad" - from Billboard, and Slant magazine stated- "I Surrender' is a "power ballad only a singer with Dion's voice could pull off""I Surrender" has been performed by a large amount of contestants on singing competition shows around the world, such as American Idol and The Voice, for years, that consider "I Surrender" one of their favorite songs that allow them to showcase their vocal talents, perhaps most famously by Kelly Clarkson on the first season of American Idol. "I Surrender" was rated as one of the top 3 songs, by popular music website Spinditty, in the top 10 Greatest Celine Dion Love Songs list they released, where they said: "It's truly a fan favorite. This just proves that she (Celine) is definitely one of the greatest musicians of all time." With "I Surrender" being one of the favorites on Celine's "A New Day Has Come", the song definitely helped the album achieve the massive success it has reached, such as selling over 12 million copies worldwide! What are your thoughts about "I Surrender"? Do you think it's one of Celine's greatest songs? Do you believe that had the superb, extraordinary song been released as an official single, that it would have reached #1 on the charts around the world, with massive radio airplay? I wish that "I Surrender" would have been the third single released from "A New Day Has Come" in late 2002, but it's awesome to see how loved and known this song is even though that didn't happen! 3 Quote
Derek F. Posted April 22, 2023 at 03:13 AM Author Posted April 22, 2023 at 03:13 AM Was just listening to I Surrender tonight, still one of my favorite songs of all time! Celine's vocal abilities are really on full display in this song, with one of Celine's greatest long belted notes of any song! Even without ever being an official single, here's some charts that Celine's "I Surrender" has charted: - reached the top 80 on the U.S. iTunes chart in 2020- reached the top 50 on the Canadian iTunes chart in 2022- reached #1 on the Malta iTunes chart in 2022!- reached the top 70 on the Spanish iTunes chart in 2015 Also, the live performance of "I Surrender" from "A New Day..." is one of Celine's top 25 most viewed (out of about 400) videos on her official YouTube channel! And, "I Surrender" is one of Celine's top 25 most streamed songs on Spotify (out of about 500 songs) with over 28 million streams! 3 Quote

LukeD Posted April 22, 2023 at 06:14 PM Posted April 22, 2023 at 06:14 PM The more I listen to ANDHC the more convinced I am that the singles should have been as follows: 1.A New Day Has Come 02.I'm Alive 03.I Surrender 04.Have You Ever Been In Love / Aun Existe Amor (For English-speaking and Spanish-speaking markets respectively) 05.Sorry For Love There are some other strong songs on the album like RIFOY, TGR, and WTWOLYR, but I think the above-mentioned choices would represent them sufficiently. 2 Quote

It's very powerfull, and the success of it to the public is notable... see how many covers, how many people on The Voice/American Idol/whatever shows has been singing this song..I think it's my favorite from ANDHC Edited April 22, 2023 at 06:37 PM by MaiconSC 4 Quote

I will never get over the fact that it was not released as a single. I'm convinced that it would smash radio stations around the world, while Goodbye's went pretty much unnoticed. I hate the fact that they always choose to play it safe. Edited April 22, 2023 at 07:29 PM by ryba 1 Quote
ryba Posted April 22, 2023 at 07:33 PM Posted April 22, 2023 at 07:33 PM Also, do we know the reason why Goodbye's was ultimately released? I read a story once that it was Celine who insisted to release Goodbye's while Sony planned to actually release Ten Days. Does anyone remember that? Also, what was the reason for not releasing more singles from that album? ANDHC was full of hit material. 1 Quote

ryba Posted April 22, 2023 at 08:51 PM Posted April 22, 2023 at 08:51 PM (edited) I think, she wanted to pay tribute to her mother.Well, looking at the single choices from a conceptual perspective, making Goodbye's a single was a logical move. The first single ANDHC celebrated the birth of her son, the second single IA celebrated life with him, and the third would then celebrate her mom, the person who gave Celine life. So the single choices went full circle and that was probably the idea behind it. But concept or not, I still think that SFL had the most potential to smash radios all around the world. Celine has never released a song like this before, and she sounded amazing on it. It suited her prefectly, and the sound and that long note was out of this world. I wonder how long the song actually was without the fade-out? She clearly just kept going! I have also always been confused by the credits of this song, because David Foster was never listed as a producer in the liner notes. 2 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay

The album version of LTAL should absolutely have had a crash ending similar to the live version. Fading that out as the last song on the album was just a mistake. 1 Quote https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PL54qnRGM2gMatthew Charles - "Fix You" - Live at The Stonewall InnStonewall Sensation - Season 15Originally written and performed by Coldplay

Fading that out as the last song on the album was just a mistake. I love LOVE LOVE the live ending of LTAL... It's one of her best endings to me... Imagine that note on studio! But part of me agrees with the fading-out on the album, because it sounds like a never-ending experience... I can't explain very well what I want to say... but it's like the journey we begin with the first chords of The Reason go all through LTAL, and doesn't stops, it keeps going and going, never ending...That being said, we should have a no fade-out of the song released somewhere, as a single, or even in this compilation with David...Actually, ALL of the fade-out songs should have been released with a no fading option Quote
DCCeline Posted April 23, 2023 at 02:16 AM Posted April 23, 2023 at 02:16 AM Where Does My Beart Beat Now has that fade where you can barely here her sing the last line. Its so annoying. I Surrender album version is great but like Seduces Me she sings it live more nasally. It just doesnt do it justice 1 Quote

Derek F. Posted April 23, 2023 at 05:40 AM Author Posted April 23, 2023 at 05:40 AM (edited) I love this song, it only needs one great music video!! I wish!! I always imagined an amazing music video for "I Surrender" if it would've been released as a single. Something big, dramatic, and epic, like Celine looking absolutely stunning, walking outside in the moonlight in a beautiful flowing dress, singing the song as she walks by a lake, simmering in the moonlight, and then she walks up a hill, and finishes the climax of the song on top of the hill that overlooks a lit up city, with her hair blowing in the breeze! It's nice to dream Edited April 23, 2023 at 05:40 AM by Derek F. 1 Quote

Amazing choices for what the singles should have been from "A New Day Has Come"! This is exactly my thoughts too! I loved that the first two singles were "A New Day Has Come", and then "I'm Alive", and if "I Surrender" would've been the next single, the song would have probably hit #1 by the end of 2002/early 2003 worldwide, especially on Adult Contemporary charts! I've always been so confused why "Team Celine" didn't release "I Surrender", and "Sorry For Love". HUGE missed opportunity for epic success for both songs! Derek F. Makes me wonder what the total streaming number is on Apple Music for the songSince "I Surrender" has over 28 million streams on Spotify, my guess is that the streaming total is likely the same on Apple Music, if not higher, which would be VERY impressive for sure!
