TODAY is 36 years since the release of the second album Celine Dion

For her second album, songwriter Eddy Marnay was inspired by long conversations with Céline and wrote tailor-made songs for her. Marnay captures Céline’s spirit, such as her unconditional love for her mother in Tellement j’ai d’amour pour toi, her sometimes difficult relationships with boys in D’amour ou d’amitié and her concern for the future of society in Écoutez-moi.

 

In Québec, the album ranks among the bestselling of the year, and Céline wins four awards at the ADISQ. In France, D’amour ou d’amitié is a huge success with over 500,000 copies sold, the most ever to date for a Canadian artist.

 

Tellement j’ai d’amour pour toi is chosen to represent France at the Yamaha World Popular Song Festival in Tokyo. Céline won an award at the festival, generating much media attention upon her return from Japan.

I really like all her old albums, but I do think Tellement isn't her strongest one. There are a bit too many quirky songs: Le piano fantôme, strangely written by Luc Plamondon! I didn't know that, Le tour du monde and Le vieux monsieur de la rue Royale. Frankly I forgot how Tu restes avec moi sounded … why does it also have those adults voices?? Are those 'parents' she's singing with/to? Tellement j'ai d'amour pour toi is a good song, but a bit too cheesy, Écoutez-moi and Visa pour les beaux jours are just good songs. And it's a bit a pity that on 8 songs, one is old: La voix du bon Dieu" though with her family this time.

 

I think D'amour ou d'amitié is the strongest song, with the best melody and best lyrics, which still stand today! It would be amazing if Céline were to sing this live in full again!

As much as I agree with your post Davey, I definitely believe Ecoutez-moi is way more than a good song. The lyrics are quite powerful and her interpretation is masterful to me (knowing how young she was when she recorded it). I do consider it one of her most underrated songs ever.

 

I've always said it's like an "early version" of S'il Suffisait D'aimer just because the message of the song is extremely similar

I think this is a very good album and it’s also really whenever one of her more children’s like album. But the songs are quite good and well written. The title track, I agree with Davey. It is corny. “Tu restes avec moi”Is an absolutely brilliant track. It is a song about divorce and how a child goes through it. The adult voices...two of her siblings in la vraie vie...do play the role of her parents. “Le vieux monsieur...”. Is also an excellent track in my opinion. About a girl who makes friends with a man that inspires her.

 

It is such a shame that these albums have been neglected. I really love them.

I agree with Davey. I think it's weakest album of her early career. However it contains, in my opinion, one of the best songs of her career "D'amour ou d'amitié. I never got tired of it.

Another one that I like is "Le vieux monsieur de la Rue Royale". But that's about it. "Tellement j'ai d'amour pour toi" is nice with a lovely personal message, but I always found it a bit flat. A new version of "La voix du bon Dieu" with her family is just a filler. Also, I never liked the album cover (that outfit...)

Not a very good one, except for D'amour ou d'amitié, of course.

Her very first one was great! This one is pale in comparison.

And the pictures....

 

Tellement j'ai d'amour pour toi is a bit ridiculous, but fits a 14years old singer, so it's okay.

Whereas there's no excuse for Celle qui m'a tout appris.

Le vieux Mr de la rue royale is kinda fun, and Visa pour les beaux jours too... but this one is clearly for children.

I don't think La Voix du bon Dieu is a filler: they capitalized on the first album mild success, like when they added Where does my heart beat now on Celine Dion (european edition).
